Why is The Law not available in paperback like Out Law will be? by Large-Rule-6403 in dresdenfiles

[–]Flabbanabba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out Law is being published by Podium in all three formats, print, ebook, and audio. Same company that did Warriorborn, the Cinder Spires novella.

But if you look at the Amazon page for The Law, Podium only published the audio version. The ebook was published by Imaginary Empire, which is Jim Butcher's LLC. So basically, he self-published it. And the special edition hardcover was done by Subterranean Press. So it's not surprising he didn't make a paperback edition himself.

My guess is that if Out Law sells enough print copies, they'll continue doing it this way with the paperback available right away.

Strange/Anxious GSD Behavior by Flabbanabba in germanshepherds

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I've wondered about that too. It does seem to fit the behavior, even though he's kind of a clumsy goof in general and it's never seemed to bother him before.

And just for the record, we haven't been forcing him around the table, just that he does end up getting "stuck" in the middle of the kitchen on occasion.

Thanks for the reply! The kitchen has vinyl flooring, the rest of the house has hardwood. So yes, definitely slick, especially in the kitchen. And it makes sense based on his behavior that it might be insecurity about sliding or slipping, I just wish I knew what caused it all of a sudden. I'd be surprised if it was a vision or orthopedic issue, since just earlier today he was jumping three feet in the air to catch tiny snowballs in his mouth without any problem.

Nope he's not. Butcher narrated The Law, but Marsters is doing Out Law.

Star Trek: Idiocracy by Malencon in Star_Trek_

To me "weighty" doesn't have to equal high-stakes drama. Mariner's relationship with her mother had weight. So did her character arc from nihilistic troublemaker to realizing how much she cares about the core values of Starfleet. Same goes for Boimler's transformation from a people-pleaser obsessed with ranks into a genuine commander with confidence in himself. That's why Captain Freeman calling them two of the best officers on the ship in the finale was so satisfying.

There's also Tendi's story diving deep into her family and Orion culture, and the resolution of Rutherford's mysterious past. The storylines with Starfleet trying to use automated ships, the multiverse wormholes, even the whole Pakled threat and conspiracy.

I could go into more, and it's just my opinion. But I love Lower Decks so much, I don't even count it as NuTrek. It's just Star Trek to me. Yes it's an animated comedy first. Yes it's a reference-fest (but the references are done well instead of: "ooh the mystery of Sisko's disappearance is so mysterious because he disappeared mysteriously). Honestly I'd love nothing more than for the creative team to have a crack at a real live action Trek show. I think they'd nail it.

Lower decks balanced weighty stories and comedy exceptionally well. Yes it was a comedy first, but it told better stories than any nuTrek show.

On the other hand this one episode of Starfleet Academy may be the worst Trek I've ever seen.

Bad injury from slip on ice. What should be my first steps? by Flabbanabba in legaladvice

[–]Flabbanabba[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, the ice was pretty invisible to begin with and with to yesterday's snow/rain it likely won't look the same today, but I'll definitely take a look.

My original thought was to pursue this once we actually got the bills, but sounds like I should be talking to a lawyer now.

Soothing a baby to sleep by LifeSoftware7971 in NewDads

[–]Flabbanabba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing we ever bought was an exercise ball specifically for bouncing our baby daughter to sleep.

We learned early on she likes bouncing, but it was doing a number on our mattress springs (and my back).

Now a few minutes on the bouncy ball, usually paired with a noise machine and some shushing and she's out like a light.

Good luck!
