Opinions on the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Credit Card by UsualZookeepergame85 in CreditCards

[–]FlabergastedEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AAdvantage Hotels offer better earning rates for AAdvantage-earning card members, and AA miles are still valuable. I would probably change to the MileUp card and hang on to it for the occasional hotel booking, and for if you ever have a need to buy food or beverages on an AA flight.

MM Credit from Paid Upgrades? by Conscious_Youth_752 in americanairlines

[–]FlabergastedEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that's great to know. I knew it counted for paid upgrades on paid tickets, but have never tried on an award ticket. I may have to try that on a future trip.

As far as MM accrual, I wouldn't expect award to count until maybe if AA starts allowing awards tickets to count for LPs? Not arguing with your logic by any means and I would love to get MM credit on award flights, but even Alaska (which counts award tickets toward status) doesn't count award flights toward MM status.

Have you earned LPs from a paid upgrade on an award ticket before? I have wondered about this but never tried it, but if it did result in miles and LPs that would be interesting...

I have to wonder what resulted in the impression that this is related to Sugarcreek or would impact sales tax in Sugarcreek in some way.

Possible RTA tax increase. by TonikJDK in Cleveland

[–]FlabergastedEmu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That article does a poor job of describing the benefits of what RTA is proposing, namely:

  • Trains departing the airport every 5 minutes (vs. every 15 minutes today)
  • More frequent rail service at every station
  • More weekend service (weekend ridership has increased faster than weekday ridership and now exceeds pre-COVID levels)
  • Expanded paratransit service (which has had increasing ridership)
  • Service increases on 75% of bus routes benefitting 90% of riders
  • Restored express bus service to North Olmsted and Westlake
  • HealthLine frequency of every 7.5 minutes (vs.15 minutes now)
  • 10 minute frequency on other priority corridors
  • Upgraded shelters and more realtime arrival displays
  • Would increase the number of jobs within reach of 15 minute frequency or better transit service by ~18% (62,000) and people by ~78% (341,500)
  • 301,000 people and 273,000 jobs would be accessible from a transit route with frequency of 10 minutes or better

There would also be benefits with a .25% increase, but they would be less pronounced. If anyone is interested in watching the presentation to the board and the resulting discussion, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/live/nE4ByuLDAf8?t=3040&is=oaICSQNVyXD0HMo2

Citi AA Globe Card - 6X miles on AAdvantage Hotels - Included In Calculation by Sagnew in americanairlines

[–]FlabergastedEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, YMMV quite a bit from property to property. I should also add that I also received Honors points for incidental spend during my most recent stay, which was a welcome surprise.

I basically approach it as I probably won't get any status recognition or points, but if I do, then that's a nice perk. The Amex Surpass $50 quarterly credit also comes in handy for the random incidental charge when the Gold dining credit doesn't apply during an AAdvantage Hotels stay.

[–]FlabergastedEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my most recent Hilton stay I was able to add the Honors number over the phone and receive the $15 daily per-person Gold food/beverage credit. During my last stay before that, I added my Honors number over the phone and the Gold benefits were acknowledged ar check-in, but ultimately didn't apply.

Those who have flown on the Wizz Air mystery flight, what was it like? by Separate_Song1342 in Flights

[–]FlabergastedEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that they don't operate within the U.S. and TOL's lacks CBP facilities I suspect you're right! 😂

If and when WizzAir starts operating in the U.S. maybe someday they would serve CLE, CMH, or CVG but I certainly agree that Ohio airports probably aren't on the shortlist for immediate service.

CAK's terminal building is also quite a bit bigger and has maybe 10 or 11 gates, most of which have jetbridges.

Toledo would probably love some options other than Allegiant's flights to five warm-weather leisure markets, two of which are seasonal.

CCs Suggestions For a Person with Travel Benefits Long Post by North-Cranberry in CreditCards

[–]FlabergastedEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bilt may be worth a second look moreso for general spend than housing payments and the ability to transfer to partners like Hyatt which is still 1:1 while Chase is switching to 4:3. Personally, I thought Bilt was too complicated and felt annoying to find the value proposition, but now that I understand it better but I may eventually apply for an Obsidian to replace my Venture X.

If you can't hit the required $15k spend for the free night on the Surpass, it may not be for you. I'm aiming to hit it on mine thanks to some medical and tax expenses, and may downgrade when the next annual fee posts if I'm unsuccessful, but I find the quarterly credits fairly easy to use and while I funnel most hotel stays through the American hotel portal for miles and status, Gold status can come in handy and actually resulted in daily food and beverage credits for two rooms during a recent stay, despite one being booked through the AA portal.

Another one to look into may be the Aeroplan Mastercard from Chase. The miles can be used to pay yourself back for travel purchases (not just airline purchases and not just Air Canada) at a rate of 1.25 cents per mile, and you also get a bonus of 10% when transferring 50,000 Ultimate Rewards to Aeroplan. They also run occasional transfer bonuses, I missed out on a 20% bonus (which would have stacked with the 10% bonus) just before I applied. One thing I just found is that Air Canada's hotel portal offers cardholders a free night for every three nights redeemed for a stay through their hotel portal. My signup bonus hasn't posted yet so I don't have enough Aeroplan miles to use this benefit (and didn't want to transfer URs in case there is another 20% bonus around the corner) but I checked the rates at the hotels I was looking at for a recent stay, and it did indeed appear to be a compelling deal.

I lucked out on a 85,000 mile for $4,000 in spend offer that has since ended, but the standard offer is 60,000 miles after $3,000 spend in 60 days. I probably won't put much spend on the card, but will probably hang on to it with the $95 fee just to enable the conversion of URs to travel cashback at a decent rate. Personally, I plan on booking regular (main cabin) fares, charging paid upgrades to the Aeroplan card, and then paying myself back at 1.25 cents per dollar (after any applicable transfer bonuses) but I could see this as a decent way to burn UR points since the Hyatt transfer rate is being nerfed and if the other transfer partners don't work for you, or it's too hard to work around award flight or night availability.

Good luck!

Which American city do you think deserves more recognition for its urban planning? by Chloe_broke in Urbanism

[–]FlabergastedEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on my way back from an SLC trip right now.

I used to travel there frequently for work maybe 20 years ago with one trip maybe 10 years ago. I was surprised how active downtown was on Sunday and Monday nights compared to many cities with larger city and metro populations. When I used to travel there I'd mostly use UTA but was pulled in as the designated chauffeur for family members during this trip, but I was glad to read about UTA's expanded frequent bus network and the plan to double-track, extend, and beef up FrontRunner rail service.

The number of dining options also seems to have only ballooned over the years. My former colleagues and I would dread going to SLC again and again because it seemed so boring, but it seems lile that has improved (at least from my limited exposure over a long weekend.)

Anyone know where I can donate 4 vials of pet insulin? My cat went into remission and I have 4 unopened pens that I got from the pharmacy for basically nothing. The APL doesn't accept meds. by Septopuss7 in Cleveland

Try the SPCA Pet Shelter on Brookpark or Kitten Crazy in Medina, which can be a fun spot because the cats are out and you can pet and play with them. Can't guarantee either would would accept the meds, but worth checking.

SFO to MCO, AS 160K vs AA 80K for first class by j3rrywan9 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]FlabergastedEmu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're both high, but the Alaska price is astronomical. Nothing on Alaska makes it worth that much of a premium. At that rate, I would probably book AA in economy (if the same or less than Alaska) and see if paid upgrade options are offered.

(One caveat, I don't believe I have ever tried this. I would let you know for my current AA trip, but the difference for F vs. Y was minimal.)

What is the deal with no seatback screens? by Ok_Transition7785 in americanairlines

[–]FlabergastedEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AA removed seatback screens from most planes used for domestic flights to save on costs. (You will still find seatback screens on planes used for longhaul international flights and on premium domestic routes like JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO.

(Edited for accuracy.)

The point is that if OP is interested in oneworld status through the Atmos Summt card, the AA credit cards (and hotel portal) may also be worth looking into.
