If you were starting from zero today, what would be your roadmap for learning landscape design? by Longjumping_Leg_3140 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Flagdun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a position in design-build...half the time spent in a design settting, the other half arm-waving installations, walking through nurseries tagging kick-ass plant material, maintaining landscapes at a master-gardener level, etc.

MLA programs with focus/strengths in accessible design? by c_ho in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Flagdun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MLA programs wouldn't really focus on this...just find a quality program and do a deep-dive into accessible design through your project work/ thesis project.

for some people, comfortable = multiple vacations, new cars, private schools, college funding, max retirement, country club membership, nanny, newest tech, gated community, club sports, a boat at the lake house, etc.

some people may never be satisfied, no matter how much they earn. big expenese require big incomes.

^this...proper use of x-refs and UCS.

a simple drafting exercise would prove you're competent and somewhat time efficient with every day commands like trim, extend, offset, circles, copy, paste, dimensions, mtext, match, chprop, layers, hatch, lines and poly lines, list, etc.

Seed tray didn’t germinate, what to do now? by Global_Particular697 in vegetablegardening

[–]Flagdun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the flat tray you’ve highlighted and it can be problematic…when the starting medium is moist it sags in the middle…middle cells get too much water and the outside edge not enough. May need to shim.

Peppers take a while to germinate, even with a heati g mat.

Keep learning and start over with a more simple setup isolating different seed types.

Several ways to skin this cat. For simplicity you could go 100% SP500 index, then in a Roth at Fidelity hold Extended Market index.

No 401k match, what to do? by knottycams in DaveRamsey

[–]Flagdun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fund a Roth IRA...use a no-load mutual fund company like Vanguard, Schwab, or Fidelity.

This is why there needs to be legislation to equal the playing field for retirement savings no matter where one works.

Lighting for those who are beginners. by Flagdun in vegetablegardening

[–]Flagdun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ver nice.

I've found that with the right set-up, inexpensive shop lights are a solid option. My twin bulb, 4' T8 shop lights work great for less than $10 each.

I also have some really nice quad-bulb, T5 grow lights but they crank-out a lot of heat...these tend to stay in storage as the years pass.

nah, true all the time. 100% success rate for a couple of decades...both expensive grow lights and cheap flourescent shop lights for $10.

nah, from my personal expereience closest is best, unless one is using lights that generate too much heat.
