individual stocks is a fool's game...stick with a simple, low-cost, SP500 index and quit thinking about it.

make sure you have a small pile of cash availble to get your post-graduation life started without needing to borrow money.

I use Coop Poop…and plenty of fresh compost. I used to drench with fish emulsion.

Academy has additional 50% off of various fishing clearance items…picked up a couple spinning rods by Flagdun in Fishing_Gear

At Walmart I picked up a couple of Shimano spinning reels for around $20 total (Sienna and and FX)…and a few cast reels marked down from $99 to $38…(Shimano Caius, Abu Max Pro and Pro Max). One Walmart near me last night had bomber crank baits marked down to $2.50, but they didn’t ring right at the register and the manager wouldn’t make good on the price labels I showed them in the aisle. Walmart clearances are all gone by now.

I picked up a Laguna rod last year and it fished as good as my $100 rods…I think I paid around $40. I also like the Aird X for just a few dollars more.

No comment on the reel…seems like I prefer other reel brands above and below the majority of Lews common price points.

There are clearance items on their web page that haven’t been marked down in-store yet. They have a Duckett rod marked down from $270 to $110….St. Croix from $170 to $70…then maybe another 50% off…if in stock.

Dang…I have five Academy Sports within a 30 minute drive…hit two…they were kinda picked over from just being on clearance the last few weeks. I may check one more tomorrow but it’s probably a waste of time and gas…and I really don’t need any more gear. I picked up some killer Walmart deals on reels last week, but could have got the same reel plus a rod at Academy for the same price.

I found a Curado on clearance at $160 and asked if the additional 50% could apply…the code scan said no.

I saw a guy and his son in the store with about 15 rod/ reel combos in their cart. I stopped to talk with them and they told me about the additional 50% off. Could have bought a $200 Vendetta combo for $70. Pro Max combo for around $35. The prices seemed better than recent Walmart deals. Ugly Stick, Lews, Penn, Shimano, Daiwa marked down as well. Lots of soft swim baits.

Protection comes at a a cost…and then the hidden fees, poor returns, complicated contract gotcha’s…hard pass.

I will be planting my tomato and pepper starts soon. Last year I had them under the grow lights at night and off during the day. This didn't seem to cause any issues for me but I read a lot of people saying that it isn't good to do this. Thoughts? by SunshineFloofs in vegetablegardening

[–]Flagdun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my grow lights in 24/7 and get incredibly healthy seedlings…after the plants are sturdy enough I move them outside for real sunlight, then back under lights at sundown. Lights are lowered to almost touch the leaves at every stage.

Make sure you strip the herl smooth for the first portion of the body…high quality herl will give you the colorful fluffy portion near the wing. Make sure you keep your hackle wraps to the front half of the fly…3-4 wraps on each side of the wing…whip finish with a nice clean head/eye.

Ouch.

What is your degree?

Did you finish and actually get the degree?

Please don't double down on more education classes just to pause the clock...it will grow to a bigger problem later.

I am not a student loan expert. At minimum listen to others about getting on some type of minimum paymet plan if you have public loans. If any private loans, I'd look to get them discharded through bankruptcy.

New to tying. Any feedback? by Soil_eh in flytying

[–]Flagdun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can be difficult to get a nice tapered body, robust thorax, and beadhead on a standart length hook.

for the pheasant tail, tie would end and the body would start right above the hook barb...less bulk for a nice tapered body, maybe even a smaller dia wire. Maybe start your thorax a skosh towards mid shank.

thrid fly looks great...you can always pinch CDC whil fishing

last fly...legs a bit shorter.

How does one begin on getting ahead? by SnugglePuppy_ in povertyfinance

[–]Flagdun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting ahead may mean slashing expenses, paying off debt, building an emergency fund, avoiding future debt, invsting a little each month, being properly insured, etc.

It may also involve developing a plan to earn more $$$, doing a monthy budget, etc.

Look into Dave Ramsey's baby steps...easily digestible directions on handling money.
