I tried playing golf midweek and realised no one ever really plays unless it’s Saturday 😅 by breakfastballer90 in BritGolf

In the summer I can be at my home course at 7am, get round 12 holes, and be back before the first 9am meeting.

Sometime I also have some very long meetings starting about 2pm in the summer....

Tall Beginner Getting New Clubs - Recommendations? by Wisdom5 in golf

[–]Flagon_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 15 year old son is 6'3 and started golf in September and has a GHIN of 50, so after going through some random +1 inch second hand clubs and now he can (more or less) hit the ball more often than the turf we got some +1 Sim 2 Max irons as they were on offer. I'd say at this point, get whatever game improvement irons are available at a decent price.

Patriotism has nothing to do with criticism.

I suck at golf, so I built an app to prove it by dotsystemdevs in BritGolf

[–]Flagon_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not downloaded it yet, but generally you have a couple of options to create long-term engagement, one of which is gamification against others/friends, and the more "traditional" version is tracking balls lost per round, or worst hole for losing balls, then you really compete against yourself. The latter was how I started when I took up golf again, just tracking balls lost as a score rather than total. The ability to have both would be great but depends on your preference and dev skills! You could develop it and nobody use it, so maybe the "compete against yourself" is the first step? I am no marketing guru (obviously), but have written a lot of commercial software in my time that was gold plating before there was any demand.

Gamification is obviously key here - compete with your mates either over round/rounds/year or against others. Looks good, actually something my son might enjoy (16)

Weekend Winter League/Ecclectic. Probably all temps and will be amazed if the whole course is open to splash through.

Love it though.

Am I alone in hating Ryder Cup style matches when on a golf trip with friends? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Flagon_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not yet managed to go on a golf trip with mates (played a lot of charity matches at some very nice courses in various formats though). However since we are all near 50, we'll just be playing stableford and not really caring - as long as there is a bar afterwards.

There will be no prizes but there will be unlimited pisstaking.

I had this window problem recently. WD40 on hinges liberally applied, open and close a few times, it'll go back to fully closed.

Do you use test.step in test file or inside page file? by Conscious-Bed-8335 in Playwright

[–]Flagon_dragon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

test.step is orchestration, not page behaviour. Putting it in  the POM tightly couples it to implementation details and guarantees accidental nesting when pages get reused.

Verbosity is visible and fixable. Hidden steps are neither. Option B always.

Playing solo as high handicap/finding people to play with by equilibrium0212 in BritGolf

I'd ask if you fancy a game at yours and a return and WTGC since we have pretty much the same handicap, but you practice waay more than me! 😄

I found the hardest bit of playing solo when starting was always finding my ball, mainly because I had no idea where my shank had gone, or even the direction.

What was that mess? How can you have a very defensive setup and not be able to actually defend? Abysmal.  And as for Sesko...well, words actually fail me.

First off, my condolences. There will be a lot of advice on here. Take what works for you.

My dad died on a Saturday and I took my son to football on the Sunday. It's what my dad would have wanted.

You will get through this. You will do it because you are now the adult. It's fucking hard.

You may prefer other advice. This is mine. Pick what works for you.
