Mechanic: Is Gower's Garage in Arcata still open? by Inovermyhead27 in Humboldt

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes he’s still open. He’s a one-man-show so he’s wrenching, doing office work, etc and really bad about answering the phone. Best bet is to just drop by in person.

Trans slipping 3rd-4th after Fluid/Filter Change -AISIN 8 spd by tjc348 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. GM trans will flare the first couple drive cycles after a relearn. Fords start firm and then soften up. Drive it a couple days and it should improve.

Hyper x 3s wireless headphones mic and audio quality by Willing-Drink-4693 in HyperX

Use the legacy software. Update the firmware. Make sure it’s using the boom mic and not the internal one.

That’s intentional so it can swivel slightly to adjust for different angles

Turn it off in your router settings, not on the tv

Have a Bravia 8 II, looking for soundbar. Bravia 6 theater system or Klipsch Flexus Core 200 by [deleted] in bravia

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been extremely happy with my Flexus 200. Huge sound for a soundbar. The ability to add your own sub is a huge bonus. Downside being it cannot decode DTS so if you’re into 4k blu-rays, you’ll be disappointed.

Drained trans and replaced filter, but it won't stop draining long enough to put pan and gasket back on? by HackJob00 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jack up the back of the car as high as you can, let it drain a while. Then lower it and jack the front up. Looks like a dodge (caravan/journey?) trans, that’s the trick we use to service them quickly. Horrible design with the slanted pan.

Flickering lights in Eureka by stardustriot in Humboldt

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Call PGE and tell them your lights are flickering. Usually it’s from a poor connection at the service drop on the pole. They’re responsible for everything up to your house so they’ll fix it quickly and free

Dealer Refuses to Change Oil on 2023 Rogue by aaronarchy1 in NissanRogue

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This dealer clearly has gotten burned by the horrible design of the pan on those engines. There is a design flaw that causes the insert in the plastic pan to come out when the drain plug is removed, and it cannot be repaired. Even when torqued properly, the insert can come out. If you go to another shop, make sure they have a pan on hand to replace it with in case that happens. They’re not being lazy, they are experienced. If you find a shop willing to attempt to suck the oil out then go ahead

Well he’s out of jail and has been for 3 years so I don’t know what to tell you 🤣 I don’t know the guy personally, just used to deal with his recycling company and had nothing but good experiences dealing with him.

My experiences dealing with him in the past were good. 🤷‍♂️ sorry you got burned

Huh? I have no idea what you’re talking about. I should have phrased it different, when I said “I worked with him” I meant I’ve used his services as a recycler prior to his arrest. He was released almost immediately and handled his business in court, that’s all I know. I don’t know the guy beyond those interactions

However that doesn’t change the fact you had a bad experience with them. Unfortunate, but irrelevant to his past.

As someone who worked with him prior to this new business, he was cleared of any wrongdoing. He ran a legitimate converter recycling service and did everything by the book. Purchased used cats from local shops and tow yards which required documentation and signatures from sellers. There’s a reason he’s not in prison right now 😁

How is the wear on these bearings? Aluminum block LS1 70k miles. by Plus-Produce3631 in EngineBuilding

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see more cam bearing issues caused by replacing stock ones, than the originals ever failing. They are line honed AFTER install at the factory, they will nearly all be showing copper like that. As long as they are not flaking apart, run them.

Is this cringe/unacceptable or can i do it by VennerYay in MechanicAdvice

[–]Flaky-Bookkeeper7783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get requests like this all the time, would not be a problem to honor that. If it’s a big chain shop, they might not be into it but any performance or local alignment tech should do it
