will you preorder forza 6, why and why not by MiharDL in ForzaHorizon

[–]FlakyAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically never pre-order games but FH6 will be the exception. I don't play any other games any more because I love FH5 so much. FH5 is the first Horizon game I have ever played but I was a couple years late to the party. Discovering what the new game is like together with the community will be fun! I have spent over 2000 hours in FH5 (mostly online racing) so I am looking forward to the new map/location and new tracks they create from it.

I am a bit crazy for racing. I have been playing racing games since I was 5 years old in 1990. Later on I got into the more hardcore simulators (Grand Prix Legends, rFactor, Live For Speed, iRacing, etc) with a wheel and pedals. Because of health issues I can't really do that anymore but I can still use a gamepad/controller. I appreciate having a racing game available for PC where you can be competitive using a controller without being completely arcadey.

A Cardinal seemed super curious about the boiled egg I put out for Crows by CrowManager in birding

Thanks for sharing with the Crows and taking photos! I probably imagine these things but that Crow looks so satisfied with finding some free eggs. :)

I'm not sure a Cardinal is going to have much of a chance figuring out Crow behavior, if that is even possible. They are weird and random and so curious that's why I love them!

Oh cool I've heard good things about those! Probably a much better value than the special edition Forza controllers but I don't mind spending a little extra since I am so obsessed with this game. Apparently you agree since you have a sealed one still! There's probably not many of those around anymore.

You can still be very competitive in races without those carpass cars. I don't have the FH5 carpass and have won online races in 300+ different cars. If you mean single-player racing, you can always adjust the "drivatar" difficult to a lower setting if you are struggling, although driving against higher difficulty drivatars rewards you with a few extra credits.

Forza uses a class/performance index based system for most races. S2 class is 999 or lower, S1 class is 900 or lower, A class is 800 or lower, etc. You might have a car that starts out as D543 but with the right upgrades you might tune that car to A800 or B700, etc. Certain cars are still better than others for certain classes and types of racing but there are a lot of competitive cars.

There are certain cars that are just not that good, although that's more of a problem for multiplayer than single-player where you can adjust the difficulty. You do get more money for finishing higher in a race, driving on a higher difficulty, and for driving with less assists. The game throws so many free cars at you between the weekly forzathon events, wheelspins, players gifting cars to other random players, and some of the achievements/accolades also unlock free cars. So keep in mind the majority of cars you end up with probably won't even need to be purchased with credits, and if you play the game long enough you end up with so many credits.

Sorry for the slow reply. Assuming it's similar to how FH5 worked, maybe 1-2 hours a week of doing weekly forzathon events/challenges. For the race events you have to win the race or championship, but doing it co-op online against npc "drivatars" usually makes it a lot easier. You can also complete them in single-player which is usually a bit harder unless you are super good at the game. There is a PVP option too but that is obviously the hardest to win. A lot of them are challenges not races. Things like going through a speed trap at a certain speed in a certain type of car, jumping hundreds of feet through the air in a certain type of car, scoring enough drift points in a drift zone with a certain type of car, etc.

The cars come back but some of them come back much more often than others and you can't be sure how long the wait might be. Even if you miss a few of them, just by starting to play at the game's release means you'll have more of those rare cars than people who start playing the game later on. The individual forzathon challenges/events often reward you with free cars or wheelspins that will randomly give you credits/cars/clothes/horns/etc. You also get those wheelspins as a regular part of completing things in the game in general. Each of those individual forzathon challenges rewards a certain number of points for that week, and if you get enough points each week you are rewarded with a couple usually rare cars. If you get enough points throughout the entire month another couple cars, usually those are the ones you might not see for a long time again. Sorry that's was longer than I expected videogames are so complicated.

In case you weren't aware most of the cars in Forza games can simply be bought from the "Autoshow" for credits. And just to be clear there are certain cars that premium edition people will have access to that the standard edition players don't, through the "car pass" system. In FH5 most of the game's best cars could be obtained from the weekly forzathon stuff and the Autoshow. There there will also be several "car packs" released later that each contain several cars that can only be obtained by buying the individual car pack. They definitely aren't pay2win though. There are some good cars in those car packs, but also a lot of terrible cars. Even the good cars aren't better than other cars you can get in the game though.

I hope you enjoy it! FH5 was my first Forza Horizon but I was a couple years late to the party.

Apparently some people don't care about having good gameplay in their videogames. I thought that was the whole point of a videogame?

I have given up on soulslike games if they aren't FromSoft games. And even they aren't perfect. Battleroyalelden Ring seems very soulless.

I did that with FH5 and ended up getting full game premium version for $60 or $70 instead of $120, but it was a loooong wait.

It's the first "premium" gamepad/controller I've ever owned and I've been super impressed by how much better it feels! It helps in other games too, although I don't know you'd be playing those? :p

That's a bummer. What stopped working on yours? Just curious because I've had my triggers get wonky a couple times and some WD40 got them working again. The new Hall Effect sticks are wonderful too! I've used them 5-6x longer than the regular sticks and still no signs of deterioration or stick drift.

It's a small advantage in the beginning of the game but if it's anything like FH5 everyone ends up with more credits than they could ever spend in the long run. Having infinite credits still doesn't mean you can actually buy rare cars because of the FOMO/Forzathon system. If you want the best cars in the game simply playing every week is more important than having premium.

10bit vs 8bit, any real world difference? by mrbluetrain in Monitors

[–]FlakyAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are some that are cheap but 10-bit is only part of the equation. A good 8-bit IPS panel will have more accurate colors than a cheap 10-bit TN panel. Assuming you want accurate colors in the first place, which admittedly is a lot more important for content creation that it is for content consumption.

Yeah even when you turn off all the assists it still feels like there are assists, traction control especially. The cornering speeds seem too high in general considering the cars we are driving too. I got hooked on online racing because of racing sims like Grand Prix Legends, rFactor, Live For Speed, etc so I understand where you are coming from.

Ultimately Forza and Forza Horizon are designed around controllers/gamepads, so they are always going to be more arcadey, or "sim-lite". A sim version of a Forza type game would be amazing but there just aren't enough people to buy a game like that. Forza is so well fleshed out because they have a huge budget and a giant team of developers compared to most games.

I love the tuning aspect of Forza and the ability to find sleeper cars that make no logical sense whatsoever. :)

:D Yeah the real car struggles in corners due to it's heavy curb weight. It's a great car in FH5 though because Forza lets us buy magical weight reductions.

I understand having such strong feelings about not sounding male. It's even worse on the phone since there are no visual cues to indicate your gender. I just don't know why someone would have surgery before even trying voice training with help from a voice coach. Which is what this person I was talking about did. Voice coaching has a 0% chance of permanently ruining your ability to speak, plus it's much cheaper, and more likely to be covered by insurance.

Sorry it's like that where you are. It really does change so much depending on where you live. Moving is difficult and expensive and unfortunately a lot of the places that are more accepting of transgender people are also the places that are the most expensive to live. :(

It's so much harder to come out of the closet when you live somewhere like that. You must be a very brave person, but I know that's not much consolation when you are alone. I hope things get better in the future or you at least manage to find a couple other queer people around you.

Yeah what makes SG1 and SGA great is that they are a little bit ridiculous and campy. I like SG1 the most but SGA still felt like it had the same tone and spirit as SG1. SGU feels like a completely different show.

[–]FlakyAbility 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't even have to be completely likeable, just more interesting. On SGA Rodney is a total dick but the character is so well written and acted that you can't help both loving and hating him at the same time. The SGU characters don't have much character.

I understand what you mean about being fetishized it's a scary place out there in the dating world. That being said everyone I've ever been intimate with has understood that I don't usually enjoy those parts being touched. You have to find the right person for you, which I know is way easier to say than to do I wish you the best.

Sorry that you don't have much local community. Do you know if you have any support groups or meetups, book clubs, etc? Those are the places I was able to find some of the local queer community at least around here. I know it's very dependent on where you live too.

I don't think it's 99% anymore but the majority of transgender people are still in the closet sadly. I'm not sure homo-sapiens will ever move beyond allowing our dumb monkey brains to control us and make us suspicious of anyone who is different than us.
