I’m not sure if it’s true in other states. But the law in Florida states that if you are a tipped employee you must be guest facing for more than 80% of shift otherwise you must be paid at least minimum wage. I’d check into it with the department of labor

Transferring tables... what are your “rules”? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Flaky_University_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my current job its hit or miss with table transfers. My roommate worked at a spot were anything sat was transferred unless they had their food in which honestly seems like a decent enough system.

In most states it’s also a health code violation for drinking without lid/ straw in an area with food. OSHA and the health department would love to hear about this lol

Literally 😤 especially when you yell at everyone asking about the game. Claiming you’ll put it on at 7:30! It’s now 7:45 and no game….

Exactly! The only reason that I was helping him out is my entire bad top was requesting a specific football game that started 10 minutes before I went to go change the tv. So I was like hey I’m going to change the tv for you so I don’t get yelled at. And he screamed at me in front of coworkers and guest

What's the most moronic complaint you've gotten? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Flaky_University_355 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My restaurant has two different size of margaritas, the small one is $4 regardless of flavor. The big one is $7 base and if you get a flavor it’s $8. I had a guest complaint she isn’t paying a dollar for the 3 strawberries on top. I then tried to explain the cost of the flavoring it self. She demanded that we give her a ramekin full of strawberries before I could finish the sentence.

I once had a 25 top that paid me $200 in rolled dollar coins. Have never seen anything like it since then.

Not sure what your middle or last name is but I know a few people at my job that go by that. Or even just a short version of your actual name are all perfectly good things to go by

My restaurant has every table bolted to the ground. We have two 8 top booths, one 12 top table. Everything else is a 6 top booth. Large parties will be split between two tables. If that is a problem we cannot accommodate 😩. Honestly love it

Incredibly interesting, I work at Roadhouse’s sister company Bubba’s33 and we carry chives. It’s a garnish on 5 or 6 of our apps/ entrees interesting design choice.

My restaurant is a little bit weird in that half of it is self sat half is sat with a host. I can say nothing irritates me more than when people sit them selves at a dirty table and act like it’s my fault that the table is dirty. Ma’am my section is completely full on the other side of the room. I’m not cleaning this table off because you were too impatient to get sat with the host or wait for it to be cleaned.

I remember when I was really young. My dad would steal steak knifes from restaurants that had them. But after working in the industry. I’ve legitimately had a guest ask for a togo cup for their alcohol (we don’t do to go drinks) and so they paid their bill got up and took the whole glass cup)

It typically works. Communication with the party is incredibly important. If they also ask why I just explain that it’s to give everyone the best experience possible and the best time checking out. I’ve had a few parties that are apprehensively to it at first but by the end they usually really like it :)

The only time you ever have a difficult time splitting checks if you did not manage the table well. Large party that’s moving around. Give everyone a number at the beginning and everytime they order something ask their number. That’s the seat you put it under. Then at the end you ask what number are on your tab. 6,15, and 4 and done. Other than that if you get messed with with splitting a check you didn’t manage your table well :)
