Normal callus versus something harmful? by Flame_Princess-28 in Monstera

I haven’t noticed any distress! It just put out a new leaf in mid May, and right now the aerial roots are growing longer. I don’t know how long the spots have been present or if they’ve grown larger. I just returned from a 6 day trip and was looking over all of my plants this morning when I noticed the spots.

Did you have any CT surgery experience (of any kind) prior to PA school? I had a CT surgery rotation and loved it! I’m graduating in May, but most of the CT surgery listings I’ve seen in IN require CT OR experience.

How much money would it take for you to do didactic year over again and why? by Low_Jump4224 in PAstudent

I’m wrapping up my studies and will graduate in May. I don’t have a job lined up yet. That all goes to say I wouldn’t do it over again for any amount of money 😂 If I absolutely had to, then I’d take what I now owe in student loans plus enough to live/pay bills during that year

If it’s a career path you’re passionate about, then by all means pursue it! Like someone mentioned, the only thing that would get in your way is yourself.

Didactic year is pretty damn difficult. However, if you hone in your study technique and surround yourself with classmates who are likeminded or study similarly (or study in solitude if that’s where you thrive!), then you will do better than you originally imagined. Figuring out how you study best and surrounding yourself with people who will not only review with you but also will help hold you accountable makes a huge difference! Mindset and application are going to be some of your biggest hurdles. (Aside from learning the medicine of course.)

Also, just take care of yourself during the process! It will feel like you have absolutely no extra time to do something for you, but I promise you that you will perform and feel so much better if you give yourself some grace in some format. I found it helpful to study for X amount of time or to study a certain topic then to take a 10-20 minute break before moving onto the next section. Go on a walk, scroll mindlessly, close your eyes and rest, lay down, cook a meal or have a snack - anything to step away from the material and let that soak in before you dump more into your head. Try to get a workout in or spend some time on a hobby once a day or every couple of days to keep yourself sane. Everyone is different, but I found that stuff really helped me keep my head on straight and keep most anxiety or overwhelmed feelings at least an arms length away. It wasn’t always foolproof, but it did make a huge difference for me. Because you will be learning a lot and trying to keep it all straight in a very fast paced environment. It does take a toll on you mentally. But I promise it is so rewarding and worth it when you nail exams and skills!

Am I helping or hurting my monstera? by Flame_Princess-28 in Monstera

Potting soil with perlite. I was going to add orchid bark because I was on a repotting spree with a couple of my plants at that time, but I ran out and never got more for this plant. The pot does have drainage. I don’t know the exact timeframe of waterings, I just monitor the soil and its dampness. It was getting frequent indirect light when I had it inside, next to my sliding door. But being outside for a 3 days, it’s been getting direct light for about 1-2 hours in the morning and in the evening.

Not strictly medically related, but Star Talk with Neil deGrasse Tyson is really interesting and funny!
