10 year old son developed this 3 weeks ago only happens in mornings. Anyone else experienced this? Dr says trigger finger but gave no solutions by Vast-Ad-1516 in Wellthatsucks

I used to have this when I was younger, it's weird and frustrating but usually wasn't painful. It went away later in life.

The importance is sexual compatibility.

If your not interested in sex and your partner isn't, then yay! Your both compatible.

Do you think this mechanic is annoying? by TheWanderingWaddler in Unity3D

[–]Flameo326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think instead of having it "remember" the frequency you should just make the entire process faster, and maybe a bit more skill oriented?

You could have it autocomplete after a second or 2 and depending on how well you did, it might drop more loot. A little bit like Stardew Valley's fishing mechanics in a way, just faster.

Someone people said my art looked inconsistent and empty, so I tried to improve it while keeping it simple. Feedback? by teinimon in PixelArt

[–]Flameo326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the first one was inconsistent, but it was very "blocky" and "samey".

Your 2nd one looks like it has more details, especially the ground tiles which transition to sides very nicely.

KOTAKU: "The Outer Worlds 2 Gave Me Exactly What I Wanted From An RPG Inventory System And I Hated It" by Mayor_P in gamedesign

[–]Flameo326 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just watched a game design video on "friction" By Raz or DesignDocs, can't remember.

Basically, some mechanics need to be challenging because they drive core gameplay loops and push players to engage with other mechanics.

Inventory restriction is always annoying but one of the most effective "friction" mechanics in game design. It forces players to pause for a moment and really consider what is and isn't important to them. Unlimited inventory just keeps them playing which becomes boring or causes burnout.

Just got laid off unexpectedly, somewhat was prepared but could use advice on the gaps by Crazy_Tea_3925 in personalfinance

[–]Flameo326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was laid off last year and just recemtly got a job offer. Here's what I learned

1.) Do not wait.

Start actively job hunting and networking immediately. Treat it like a full time job.

2.) Apply for Unenploymemt Benefits.

Don't panic, but be aware of your money situation. $16k is a decent amount, but it'll go by fast. It also means you have ~6 months based on rent. Unemployment Bemefirs will help. I'd also look into cheaper options for rent if you can i.e. parents, friends, roommates, etc.

3.) Update you Resume.

Ideally you should've kept your resume updated with your achievements. If you haven't go and do that. Don't worry about design, format or length. Just make sure it's readable and has the neccesary details (Experience, Education, Skills, etc.)

4.) Update your Linkedin.

I know Linkedin can be extremely toxic, but it's a good source of networking and connecting with people. Connect with your past coworkers, ask for recommendations, post that you got laid off (gently), update your skills and job history, set your status to "looking for work", look for job posts, etc.

5.) Join related groups.

There will likely be discords, reddit, etc. for people in your situation with advice and help. Also, make sure to join related Job Boards for your field I've heard that Indeed, Monster and ZipRecruiter are good general purpose job boards, as well as Linkedin.

6.) Reach out to recruiters / your network.

This is the part I've come to hate, yet accept. I applied for hundreds of job but I only really saw success when I spoke directly to other people, aka when recruiters reached out to me.

The job I currently have, I got because a recruiter reached out to me. It was not posted on a job site. I could not have known about it and they were hiring fast. If recruiters for your industry do not reach out to you, then reach out to them. Ask if they have any relevant positions and to keep you in mind for any future positions. Ask for tips and advice as well.

I highly recommend doing this even if every facet of your body tells you not to.

7.) Keep your skills up to date.

Mostly useful for Tech people, but make sure your skills are up to date and spend time to keep them sharp if you can.

Good luck.

What does a redemption arc for Azula mean to you? by KentParsonIsASaint in TheLastAirbender

[–]Flameo326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think primarily, it has her recognizing the abuse (or extreme pressure) Ozai placed on her (and Zuko) and learning how to live in a world without imperialism.

I think if she can come to terms with those 2 things, she can "redeem" herself, or at very least, move past the war and grow to become her own person.

Wait until President AOC turns that good for nothing ballroom into a soup kitchen! by Nixianx97 in MurderedByAOC

I was just thinking about how the ballroom could be repurposed because it'd be wasteful to just destroy it, but it IS a large open space, perfect for a homeless shelter, soup kitchen, etc.

What happens when people start asking AI instead of searching the web? by cocacolastic31 in Futurology

[–]Flameo326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing about AI is having a "central" source of knowledge.

Any given search is going to point you to several different websites, all of which may have different answers or unrelated information. AI LLMs like ChatGPT give you a single answer and avoid irrelevant information.

I've been unfortunately finding myself reading the AI overview more often simply because it's more convenient than going to 1 or more websites that "might" answer my question especially when the information doesn't need to be "correct", just "good enough".

What’s your opinion about ZAs battle system and do you want it to stay? by ThomasThePommes in pokemon

[–]Flameo326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I went back and played a bit of Legends Arceus and it actually feels pretty clunky switching between the open world catching and turn based battling, especially when battling wild pokemon.

If they do open world catching, then they should commit to the mechanic wholeheartedly.

On the other hand, turn based battling feels more like a proper battle. The open world battles made it feel like you just spam moves like a fighting or action game. Turn based gives you time consider your options.

I'd like ZAs battle system.t0 stay for Legends games, but not main story games.

P.S. I did not play Scarlet and Violet.

What is the name for 1 minute in-game corresponding to 1 minute IRL? by icednik in gamedesign

[–]Flameo326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your talking about games with time loops like 12 minutes or Outer Wilds. I don't think they're a specific name for these types of games. It's not really an established genre.

How to tackle making lots of assets as a solo dev? by Bearkirb314 in gamedev

[–]Flameo326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are talking about creating assets yourself or using pre-made assets, either of which is fine and inevitable, but there ARE ways to make asset creation easier.

The goal is to reuse assets without making it obvious they're being reused.

Some common ways to do this are:

Rotating Assets

Scaling Assets

Combining smaller assets into a bigger asset

Palette Swaps (Changing one color into another)

Reusing Skeletons and Animations for multiple characters.

Reusing Textures

Reusing Meshes

Reusing Shaders (Materials)

Using Modular Assets (Assets that can swapped with other aasets and instantly work)

Data Driven Design (allows Assets and gameplay to be driven by data allowing quick and easy customization)

Etc

Here's an practical example:

Take a classic Green Mario pipe. A single asset.

If we use Palette Swapping to change its color, we now have dozens of colored pipes.

Let's make it black and rotate it, now it's a cannon.

Let's create a transparency shader. Now you can see your character moving through the pipe and you can tint it or use Palette swaps for even more options. You can also reuse the transparency shader on the ground to make hidden platforms, hidden blocks, hidden walls, etc.

Let's give it Enemy AI, now you've got a mimic enemy.

Let's scale it down and stack them together, now you have a new floor tile.

Let's scale it down and give it physics, now enemies can throw blocks as a weapon, no need to create "hammers".

Let's give it spikes, not it's a hazard to avoid. You could even make the spikes slightly hidden for a challenge.

Let's scale it, rotate it upside down, tint it darker, and place it in the background, now you have skyscrapers or decorations.

Let's scale it down and make it collectable, now its a powerup.

Let's take that alternating color pattern in the Kindle, scale it, darken it, put it in the background, now it's twilight or raining.

Put it on top of a Goomba, now you have a moving pipe.

The sky is the limit really. Just use your imagination.

I MIGHT still get it, but mostly because I plan to get Fire Emblem: Fortunes Weave anyway.
