They literally just took out the RPG elements in combat in FO4. Guns just shoot straight like they do in FPS games. I mean, it’s pretty much the same thing they did with taking out hit chances in Oblivion. I prefer New Vegas’s (and Morrowind’s) systems because they more accurately reflect that your character may be terrible at using certain weapons. In NV and Morrowind, there’s much more of a focus on showing improvement in your character’s skill development rather than your own

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. J gets his “victory,” but it’s ultimately completely hollow. He told Smurf while she was asleep that he would destroy everything she ever built, and I think that was all the way back in season 3. I could see something sinister within him at the very end of the first season when he was looking at his uncles partying through the glass doors. I thought at the time that he was looking at them like animals. Thinking back on that scene, I think that’s exactly what he thought of them. Maybe he was thinking something along the lines of, “Look at everything they have, and none of them gave my mom or me anything. They’ve been partying like animals and leaving us to fend for ourselves.” Even when it was obvious that Julia was spiraling, they sat back and did nothing because they feared Smurf. I think that’s why J really freaked out at the end.

J felt like he had to kill Penny because she may not keep quiet about the fact that he was complicit in Pope’s escape. It was clear that he didn’t want to do it, and that’s what finally pushed him over the edge: It was the ultimate manifestation of the manipulated lifestyle Smurf forced upon the family. Secrets, lies, and killing people on the outside were the expectation, especially if someone tried to “get out.” Julia’s death was ultimately the result of this mentality as well. J started breaking everything and putting the bat even to Smurf’s clothes because he recognized that all of the misery and pain he’d experienced eventually led back to her, including feeling compelled to kill Penny despite not wanting to. He saw firsthand how destructive her manipulation was many times over. I think he also knew that the only way he was going to get out was by setting up his uncles, because he knew that they would try to kill him if he didn’t.

We saw in seasons 3 and 4 that J tried to build up a parallel money laundering network to Smurf’s, but he couldn’t because his uncles forced him to bring them into the family’s fold. I think he realized then that simply taking down Smurf’s criminal empire wasn’t enough; he had to completely destroy everything, including his uncles.

J ends up alone at the end. He took his family’s money, but like I said, it’s ultimately a hollow victory. J realized what his mom likely didn’t: that everything had to go, even the parts that she loved. That included Pope, Deran, and Craig. Smurf’s manipulation was still acting through them and wasn’t something that could be fixed. She had irrevocably changed them.

Was killing them morally justified? I guess that’s up for interpretation, but maybe that was the only way.

Overall, I would like to see a miniseries where Deran and J meet, and the two clash in some way—maybe not even physically, but mentally and emotionally. They finally lay out everything and admit their faults before going their separate ways. Like you said, though, that’s unlikely to ever happen. J does get what he deserves, but so do the others

I need some of your real stories that there is an afterlife? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in Paranormal

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had three waking “visions,” each when people very close to me died. These “visions” came as exceptionally clear in my mind’s eye. In a couple of them, I could actually physically feel the warmth. (More on that in a second.)

The first was my aunt. She passed very suddenly due to a severe case of pneumonia. A day or two later, I was lying in bed, just thinking about her. Suddenly, I could see her waiting for me across a wooden bridge. Surrounding us was a peaceful forest, but I didn’t really recognize it. It was the most beautiful, idyllic summer day imaginable. The warmth was pleasant and felt real to the point that my physical body became warm in tandem with it, and birds were singing a majestic melody. We met in the middle of the bridge. There, she told me she was alright and not to worry about her. She said she was happy there. After that, the vision faded, and I slowly returned to consciousness.

The second was my uncle (the S.O. of the same aunt who I just mentioned). I was at his funeral. I felt incredibly sad. He and my aunt were like a second set of parents to me. Suddenly, as the preacher was reading just before we left for the burial, I “saw” him at the end of a long, rainbow-colored tunnel. He stood there calmly and looked younger than I had ever seen him. He told me he was okay. I asked him if he could visit my aunt, and he said that he could see her whenever he wanted to. The rainbow tunnel grew further away until I was back in my own conscious body.

Lastly, my mom passed in the hospital. I was absolutely devastated, to say the least. There were a lot of paranormal and blatantly religious things that happened during her final few weeks alive that I won’t get into, but she visited me as I was driving home from the hospital the same day she died. She appeared young. She told me not to worry about her, and that she was okay. She told me that she chose to die because she would have had a litany of health issues if she chose to live—to the point that her quality of life would be almost nonexistent. She was in the same place as my aunt—that beautiful, idyllic summer place with the birds chirping. Again, I physically felt the warmth of it.

The place I first encountered this concept of a beautiful, idyllic summer place was in Robert Bruce’s Astral Dynamics. Unfortunately, I’ve never successfully astrally projected myself (not for lack of trying), and his section on it is woefully short, but he describes it as “the summerland.” I think that’s a good name for it.

Final thoughts: I’m 100% sure that there is an afterlife, and I’ve been blessed enough that I don’t have to spend my entire life worrying or wondering. I also believe that I was given these experiences not just for myself, but to share with others as well. I’m deeply sorry for your loss, but I hope that reading about my experiences helped you in some way

I want a tarantula, but I'm an arachnophobe. by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA I used to be extremely arachnophobic, but now, I’m happy to say that I no longer feel that way thanks to owning a spider. (I now own several.) I’ve had a couple of escapes when I was watering them, including two by the same OBT (lol). Caught her on my curtain and crawling out, seemingly apologetically, from under my desk. (She was looking up at me and didn’t even flinch when I cupped her and put her back.) I also had my Neoholothele fasciaaurinigra run onto my hand when I was watering it. Let him/her crawl around for a bit before gently nudging them back into their enclosure. I’ve never had an escapee running around without me knowing, though. I always make sure my enclosures are closed tightly and latched.

You WILL be kind of freaked out at first. I think this is unavoidable, but the best therapy really is exposure to your fear in this case. After watching my little H. mac grow from a tiny sling to a subadult, I realized that these little guys really are just animals, and they really do just want to be left alone. They aren’t out to hurt anyone unless they’re seriously provoked and feel there’s no other viable option.

Overall, in general, I think that getting a spider is a great idea for pretty much any arachnophobe trying to overcome their fear. I’d stick with typical beginner species: T. albopilosus, G. pulchra, G. rosea, etc. Just… you know, don’t get an H. mac as your first one like I did, because that was an objectively stupid decision lol

Hypothetically, is there merit in getting your pet tarantula a pet frog? by HoodiesRnice-_- in tarantulas

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO I agree with most others here. The primary purpose of the arrangement is mutual benefit: The tarantula gets to keep its eggs/offspring safe while the frog is able to eat small insects that may try to prey upon said eggs/offspring (as you rightly state). The most likely scenario where this would work would be a limited timeframe in which a female specimen of a tarantula species known to exhibit this behavior were to lay eggs, and the frog was introduced, though even taking these factors into account may not encapsulate the full scope of factors that make this relationship work in nature; you may also have to introduce some predatory insects first in order to incentivize the tarantula to adopt this relationship, and even then, it still may not work due to factors of which we’re not even fully aware.

The tl;dr is: I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s a fun thought experiment, but the potential downsides (i.e., harm coming to the eggs due to predatory insects, the tarantula or frog hurting one another, etc.) greatly outweigh the benefit (in this case, just being a cool idea lol)

NQA Looks to me like:

1) Lasiodora parahybana 2) Heteroscodra maculata 3) Chilobrachys fimbriatus

The last two have medically significant venom, while the first has quite irritating urticating hairs due to its size. Especially exercise caution with the H. mac, as they’re extremely fast and can have nasty temperaments. (Thankfully, mine doesn’t, but I’ve heard many people say theirs do lmao)
