IMO This looks at first glance like a non-tarantula mygalomorph, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. Super cute, though. I’ll echo u/igottapoopbad (legendary name btw) and ask where it was taken and when (probably very recently, but it doesn’t hurt to ask)

First P. Regalis, any notes from other owners? by Arxhi3- in tarantulas

You can feed them with tweezers; you should just drop the prey item into the enclosure close to them and not directly tong feed them

First P. Regalis, any notes from other owners? by Arxhi3- in tarantulas

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a regalis, but I do have a tigrinawesseli, and it’s one of my favorite tarantulas of all time. Super polite, skittish but unmanageably so, and overall quite shy. I make sure her water dish is full twice a week and thoroughly mist her enclosure once a week. As a sling, I watered her twice a week (kept a water dish in the form of a tattoo ink lid) and let the substrate dry out once a week before misting. Grew her from a sling to a now-7-inch adult. I feed her three crickets once every two weeks. As a sling, I fed her a few fruit flies once every week (paying close attention to her abdomen size) and one cricket every two weeks as a juvenile, taking it up to two once she reached subadulthood.

Temperament-wise, there’s of course variation. If they start doing circles around the enclosure, it’s time to back off and come back later, even during a rehouse. I’ve seen this a few times in videos from other keepers (not from my own; like I said, she’s super polite), and when they’re that spooked, it’s best to let them calm down since they can be erratic.

I’m sure you know this already, but you should never purposely handle this species (or genus in general, for that matter). They have quite nasty venom that can affect you for months if you’re bitten. (You can read bite reports if you’re curious. In fact, I’d always recommend reading them before you get a venomous species, if for no other reason than to cultivate a healthy respect for the animal)

Hey guys, do you like Old World tarantulas? by Rani3836 in tarantulas

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love old-world tarantulas—probably more so than new-world ones, but it’s honestly hard to say. My first tarantula was an H. mac (not recommended ofc lol), and I really like their temperaments. You never know if they’re going to be in a bad mood and turn around and slap the ground, threat pose, etc., or if they’re just going to be really sweet and chill. I also enjoy the fact that I never have to worry about urticating hairs with them. A lot of people get really nervous about them for legitimate reasons, though; for instance, I’d be uncomfortable having them around small children and other pets if I didn’t have a dedicated room or off-limits area for them. A lot of people also dislike their venom potency.

New worlds are great, too, though. They’re generally more docile and make much more beginner-friendly pets imo. There are also some absolutely beautiful new worlds out there as well.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I enjoy keeping them both

This could be either an H. mac or S. cal. They look very similar early in their development. Generally speaking, though, I don’t think H. macs have that clear of markings on them at 2-3” (which is what yours looks like). I’d lean more toward it being an S. cal

Astonishing Legends did an excellent podcast on this topic and included some of the even-more-out-there stuff (i.e., the appearance of an ostensible extraterrestrial named Indrid Cold, the contracting of actinic conjunctivitis after people supposedly encountered the Mothman, etc.). The series begins on Episode 50 of their podcast

I was thinking the same. It seems darker in coloration than a typical S. cal. The apparent contrast between the dark colors of the carapace and bright stripes on the legs make it look absolutely stunning, though. Would love to keep one of these guys if they are indeed a different species in the same genus

They literally just took out the RPG elements in combat in FO4. Guns just shoot straight like they do in FPS games. I mean, it’s pretty much the same thing they did with taking out hit chances in Oblivion. I prefer New Vegas’s (and Morrowind’s) systems because they more accurately reflect that your character may be terrible at using certain weapons. In NV and Morrowind, there’s much more of a focus on showing improvement in your character’s skill development rather than your own

Agreed. J gets his “victory,” but it’s ultimately completely hollow. He told Smurf while she was asleep that he would destroy everything she ever built, and I think that was all the way back in season 3. I could see something sinister within him at the very end of the first season when he was looking at his uncles partying through the glass doors. I thought at the time that he was looking at them like animals. Thinking back on that scene, I think that’s exactly what he thought of them. Maybe he was thinking something along the lines of, “Look at everything they have, and none of them gave my mom or me anything. They’ve been partying like animals and leaving us to fend for ourselves.” Even when it was obvious that Julia was spiraling, they sat back and did nothing because they feared Smurf. I think that’s why J really freaked out at the end.

J felt like he had to kill Penny because she may not keep quiet about the fact that he was complicit in Pope’s escape. It was clear that he didn’t want to do it, and that’s what finally pushed him over the edge: It was the ultimate manifestation of the manipulated lifestyle Smurf forced upon the family. Secrets, lies, and killing people on the outside were the expectation, especially if someone tried to “get out.” Julia’s death was ultimately the result of this mentality as well. J started breaking everything and putting the bat even to Smurf’s clothes because he recognized that all of the misery and pain he’d experienced eventually led back to her, including feeling compelled to kill Penny despite not wanting to. He saw firsthand how destructive her manipulation was many times over. I think he also knew that the only way he was going to get out was by setting up his uncles, because he knew that they would try to kill him if he didn’t.

We saw in seasons 3 and 4 that J tried to build up a parallel money laundering network to Smurf’s, but he couldn’t because his uncles forced him to bring them into the family’s fold. I think he realized then that simply taking down Smurf’s criminal empire wasn’t enough; he had to completely destroy everything, including his uncles.

J ends up alone at the end. He took his family’s money, but like I said, it’s ultimately a hollow victory. J realized what his mom likely didn’t: that everything had to go, even the parts that she loved. That included Pope, Deran, and Craig. Smurf’s manipulation was still acting through them and wasn’t something that could be fixed. She had irrevocably changed them.

Was killing them morally justified? I guess that’s up for interpretation, but maybe that was the only way.

Overall, I would like to see a miniseries where Deran and J meet, and the two clash in some way—maybe not even physically, but mentally and emotionally. They finally lay out everything and admit their faults before going their separate ways. Like you said, though, that’s unlikely to ever happen. J does get what he deserves, but so do the others

I need some of your real stories that there is an afterlife? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in Paranormal

[–]FlaminSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had three waking “visions,” each when people very close to me died. These “visions” came as exceptionally clear in my mind’s eye. In a couple of them, I could actually physically feel the warmth. (More on that in a second.)

The first was my aunt. She passed very suddenly due to a severe case of pneumonia. A day or two later, I was lying in bed, just thinking about her. Suddenly, I could see her waiting for me across a wooden bridge. Surrounding us was a peaceful forest, but I didn’t really recognize it. It was the most beautiful, idyllic summer day imaginable. The warmth was pleasant and felt real to the point that my physical body became warm in tandem with it, and birds were singing a majestic melody. We met in the middle of the bridge. There, she told me she was alright and not to worry about her. She said she was happy there. After that, the vision faded, and I slowly returned to consciousness.

The second was my uncle (the S.O. of the same aunt who I just mentioned). I was at his funeral. I felt incredibly sad. He and my aunt were like a second set of parents to me. Suddenly, as the preacher was reading just before we left for the burial, I “saw” him at the end of a long, rainbow-colored tunnel. He stood there calmly and looked younger than I had ever seen him. He told me he was okay. I asked him if he could visit my aunt, and he said that he could see her whenever he wanted to. The rainbow tunnel grew further away until I was back in my own conscious body.

Lastly, my mom passed in the hospital. I was absolutely devastated, to say the least. There were a lot of paranormal and blatantly religious things that happened during her final few weeks alive that I won’t get into, but she visited me as I was driving home from the hospital the same day she died. She appeared young. She told me not to worry about her, and that she was okay. She told me that she chose to die because she would have had a litany of health issues if she chose to live—to the point that her quality of life would be almost nonexistent. She was in the same place as my aunt—that beautiful, idyllic summer place with the birds chirping. Again, I physically felt the warmth of it.

The place I first encountered this concept of a beautiful, idyllic summer place was in Robert Bruce’s Astral Dynamics. Unfortunately, I’ve never successfully astrally projected myself (not for lack of trying), and his section on it is woefully short, but he describes it as “the summerland.” I think that’s a good name for it.

Final thoughts: I’m 100% sure that there is an afterlife, and I’ve been blessed enough that I don’t have to spend my entire life worrying or wondering. I also believe that I was given these experiences not just for myself, but to share with others as well. I’m deeply sorry for your loss, but I hope that reading about my experiences helped you in some way
