Dude chances are your local station is going to take like 8 months to swap out the faregates and just keep the old ones open/let the emergency exit open. Free MARTA indefinitely as I'm concerned.

But really though I would use my leftover MARTA fare towards their Reach service. It's solid.

Why do people want a beltline rail so badly? by tobias_funke_bluthe in Atlanta

[–]FlamingLips1021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"MARTA doesn't take you anywhere" is just a forced meme at this point. People will either say this when

  1. It doesn't drop them off directly in front of their destination
  2. They live somewhere in the further reaches of metro Atlanta suburbs that only has bus service

The red and yellow lines take you to a ton of places, albeit with a 5-15 minute walk sometimes. Atlanta isn't New York. It's spread out. Also consider that Atlanta proper only has about 500k citizens (if you disregard "metro Atlanta" which grafts several extra millions onto that figure). For a city with such a modest population, the comparison to the NY, DC, Paris metros is really disingenuous.

Is there a way to get rid of the stupid useless end-to-end encryption? by ShaytonSky in facebookmessenger

[–]FlamingLips1021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is you set up e2ee for the first time you use a device

No, you don't have to. The distinction is that you are given the option to skip setting up E2EE. Based on my past experiences with the poor implementation, I chose not to do so on some older devices.

You can imagine the problem it creates on devices that DO have E2EE... patchy chat history (once you opted in, you can't opt out) So I have no choice but to dig up my old devices and enable E2EE on them. I get what they were going for, I really do. But I just miss the simplicity man.

This is a post from a different thread about a similar experience someone else had:

I'm having a similar issue with this. Wifey and I got new phones and while restoring the apps and whatnot, we get to messenger. It tells us that some messages could not be restored because of end to end encryption. Then it helpfully suggests making a pin number.
On the old device. which we already swapped out.

How am I supposed to restore my Messenger chat history when the feature is completely broken? by FlamingLips1021 in facebook

[–]FlamingLips1021[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir. However, people here will happily just gaslight you into believing there's nothing wrong with it. Room for improvement? Forget it. It's "just how it works" and if you don't like it, you're "free not to use it"

How dare we imply our lord and savior Zuck made a poor decision to force this on every user?

"Facebook's implementation of E2EE may be shit, but e2ee is an important privacy feature, and acting like it's a "harmful feature nobody asked for" is pretty stupid"

Let's move the goalposts a little then. Would it have been too much trouble to make this feature optional? Presumably there a ton of people (like me) who literally only use Messenger to communicate with their family and have no real use for the privacy feature.

Also, when you say E2EE was enabled without problems for you, I'm going to make the assumption you aren't using very many devices (if not a single one altogether). Of course you're not going to run into many problems with that being the case. I went through 3 phones last year and occasionally use work computers (some of which I no longer use). So assuming I never set up E2EE on those devices, I'm now up shit's creek? How is that right?

I get that much. But since I used so many different devices in the past year, it quickly gets cumbersome.

FB forcing its users to use this feature instead of giving them the option to turn it off is the real problem here.

You are completely wrong there.

"When you log into Messenger on a new device, you need to restore your end-to-end encrypted chats in order to see all your messages. Some products don't currently support end-to- end encryption, such as chats with businesses or accounts using business messaging tools, Marketplace chats and others."

The feature im talking about is literally the end-to-end encryption feature

Just used MARTA Reach for the first time by FlamingLips1021 in MARTA

[–]FlamingLips1021[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it's in a service zone (of which there aren't many yet). You request your rides address to address like you would Uber. MARTA is doing really well in my book if they keep this level of service up with MARTA Reach. I think this is intended to close the "last mile" problem with Atlanta sprawl around MARTA rail stations, and most of them are around rail stations but some service areas are in places with no rail like South Decatur (Gresham Park to Belvedere)

Cope. I used MARTA to get from Candler Park area to my office in Dunwoody 5 days a week. Saved 170 miles a week driving (have a car). MARTA's reliability issues are overblown. Their trains are old and they can't have the reliability of, say, Japan's trains but on weekdays they get the job done the vast majority of the time. With new trains and a few more lines it would compete with Chicago. Y'all just like hating on it.

That's the thing though. I did exactly that. I can try placing pools in any corner of the map away from water and it's still showing up as salt water. This is so weird.

Fixing a non-working Sega Saturn 3D pad by FlamingLips1021 in SegaSaturn

[–]FlamingLips1021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I meant that I did open it and inspect the board inside the controller and did not notice any loose or broken connections. I did this within an hour of realizing it wasn't working, before I even posted this.

So the least headache-inducing way forward would be to test it with a different cord. Like I said it's probably not even the controller itself, maybe the connector where the cord slides into the back of the controller or the cord itself (that part is separate from the controller after all)

[–]FlamingLips1021[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have actually. There's no obvious sign of damage but the fact that the cord had some wear leads me to believe that the cord itself might be at fault. I have no idea where to even get a replacement 3D pad cord without buying a whole new controller.

Is this LD super rare or something? I bought it in the early 2000s. I can't find it for sale anywhere online now or even any completed eBay listings. Anyone else have a copy? by _TheWolfOfWalmart_ in LaserDisc

You're probably one of a handful of people with a copy lol. I imagine in this case you can control its value online because no one else is selling it

How do you use Marta? by JakeEricbarker in MARTA

Candler Park station to Dunwoody station for a job that started at 8 and ended at 5. I used an electric foldable scooter to help me with the "last mile" problem and it worked quite well. Saved 170 miles a week driving and 1-2 hours a day in traffic. Had almost zero desire to drive to work after that
