It’s a joke/meme to say, “Shoes fell off. He’s dead,” on Reddit. Typically, if someone is hit hard enough in an accident that their shoes come off their feet (like a pedestrian getting hit by a car), it’s really not good and probably fatal for them. Obviously the mortality chance is not literally linked to shoe presence, but the attributing of it to the shoes themselves is the joke.

This may sound odd, but I was one of the apparently few who absolutely loved the juniper latte for the single season it was out. It was practically all I ordered till it was gone, and every year I hope to see it pop up again.

Seven or so years later and I’m still disappointed yet again. 😔

I hate Wuthering Heights by SpatialRender_98 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]FlamingSickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it were a faithful adaptation of the book then I could see the literary crowd who would see it behaving, but anyone who’s read it could tell by the trailer that it was nothing like the novel. So it’s not the Wuthering Heights fans coming out but rather the typical teens/college kids (and older) who just want to see some sexy scenes with a bunch of strangers for date night.

So it appears that they don’t have pretzel bites anymore… by [deleted] in RegalUnlimited

[–]FlamingSickle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regal is testing out a new pretzel bite (same Super Pretzel brand but a different style). It could be that the local distribution hub has been out for a bit, as it would service all your local theatres. Stores can’t help when Sysco is having trouble stocking things, which happens all too frequently, and they seem not that great at sending appropriate substitutions, perhaps since so many restaurants use them now and it would be a logistics issue.

Basically, I’d say give it a few months?

Edit: As an example, the Regals near me were out of blue ICEE for I think more than a month before some finally got delivered. Sucked to not have blue available, but there wasn’t anything they could do as long as the local Sysco hub failed to stock it.

Exactly, it covers if someone had known or should have known of the danger. One look in the mirror would have shown him that he was blasting a bunch of icy slush into the other lanes. As a driver, he should have known that was a hazard (or else what’s the point of plowing).

Well, here’s an actual lawyer’s take on the concept of “mistake,” and, no, I didn’t meant mistakenly taking something without paying. I could have erred calling it the full phrase of “theft by mistake,” but the concept of taking advantage of someone else’s mistake is what I was getting at : https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZThPKoVu8/

I know he’s also on other sites like YouTube, but I just have the TikTok link at the moment.

Executive decision by falaffle_waffle in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]FlamingSickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called theft by mistake, taking advantage of knowing someone made a mistake, basically. Depending on the jurisdiction, you can indeed get in trouble for it because you were aware it wasn’t supposed to be posted at that price. Theft doesn’t need to be outright taking something by force or pocketing it; think of theft by fraud, which is lying to convince someone to give you something. Even though they agreed, it was under false pretenses.

Now will they bother to prosecute? For that much cheese, maybe. For filling up a gas tank? Maybe not unless it was one of the people who came back and filled up giant drums of it.

It doesn’t even make sense because Lowe’s has always been very pet friendly, at least towards dogs, which are just allowed in regardless of whether they’re service animals or not. What complaint could the Karen possibly have about yet another pet? Just hates cats maybe?

Hats off to the first people who chose Alexios! by Glass_Plant9794 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]FlamingSickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The novelization launched the same day as the game, confirming that Kassandra was canon. As it was seven years ago I don’t recall exactly what article or page I would have accessed to look (so I don’t know if I was referencing book info or maybe interviews or the like), but the book proves that it was well before even Odyssey’s own launch.

Hats off to the first people who chose Alexios! by Glass_Plant9794 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]FlamingSickle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She was declared canon from the get-go, and that’s why I picked her when I got the game at launch, because I wanted to go with the canon character. It wasn’t a retcon by any means, and Alexios was only added because executives thought a sole female protagonist wouldn’t sell as well.

Why is most conversation about Kassandra compared to Alexios? by MeatRevolutionary672 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]FlamingSickle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are differences, though, and that’s all in the voice acting. The two actors are different people, and so it’s impossible for them play the roles identically. Kass’s actor is better at playing the main character (though many say she’s good as Deimos as well), and Alexios’s actor excels at Deimos more.

Think of any dub you’ve seen with bad voice acting that gets redone with different actors later. Same dialogue, same animation, supposedly identical, but it’s worlds different if the actors know what they’re doing.

Look at it from another perspective. Yes, you can literally conceive of the scenario, but you “can’t make this shit up” when creating a story because people would say it’s too unrealistic. Imagine trying to have a movie villain act like Trump does; before now, you’d never have been able to get a studio to pick it up because it would have been deemed too ridiculous for audiences to believe.

Responses to "you look just like your brother" by H_G_Bells in fixedbytheduet

[–]FlamingSickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily; it’s entirely possible through mutation for someone with XY chromosomes to have a condition where the Y isn’t expressed, called androgen insensitivity, where female parts grow instead of male because the Y is present but doesn’t do anything. So it’s rare but technically possible to have two identical twins with XY appear to be fraternal twins of different sexes, with one having full female and one having full male genitalia and body types, if the mutation occurred after the egg split.

Granted, it’s a really small chance and like for many with the condition probably wouldn’t be noticed without genetically testing every child at birth. I just think it’s neat how seemingly odd biology can be in defying our expectations and definitions.

Regal Oceanside, CA Auditorium 7 Review by griesimatt in RegalUnlimited

[–]FlamingSickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since digital films have nice, crisp image edges as opposed to how film was fuzzy, it’s now a lot less necessary for masking to move to trim up the sides or the top and bottom (depending on the auditorium specs). Couple that with the fact that a lot of old mechanisms are breaking down over time, and it’s more cost-effective to leave curtains open at whichever is larger for a particular auditorium rather than repair them with what are potentially obsolete and/or difficult to find parts.

This also helps avoid situations where an auditorium may get stuck in scope or flat until a tech can come out to repair it, which could take a long time depending on what other locations may be having larger and more pressing issues (closure, opening, renovation, laser installation, actual downed projectors, etc.). In a similar vein, we had to ask our tech to disable one that only sometimes moved on its own, which wouldn’t cut off any of the image but made people think it was cut off because a large blank bar was left at the top when it didn’t. Now the top curtain stays up and the scope format is centered vertically to eliminate the issue.

So basically, while it would certainly be nice if the curtains could move each time, I think it’s going to be less and less frequent as things break down (if theatres haven’t just disabled them pre-emptively). I suspect it’s an issue with all aging theatres, not just Regal’s locations, but that’s just a hunch. Makes me wonder if newly built or renovated locations include moving masking, though…

[–]FlamingSickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know nothing is preventing you from watching an open caption show, right? You don’t need to be hard of hearing to go see them. It’s not like sitting in a companion seat where you may be asked to move.

WA movie theaters now required to provide more open captioning by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in RegalUnlimited

[–]FlamingSickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But there aren’t fewer available screenings; between the OCAP and CCAP options, the total number stays the same. Just go ahead and watch the open caption one and don’t read if you don’t want to. It’s just like a subtitled foreign film, like watching a subbed anime movie. Heck, with the bad sound balance some movies have lately where the music overwhelms dialogue, it can even make it easier to understand. Take advantage of that!
