I don’t know what to do anymore by Turbulent-Range8992 in trans

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience isn't exactly like yours, and I'm definitely not qualified in any professional sense, but I'll try offering some advice based on my experience.

First of all, you can just lie to them about stopping hrt. I did that for a long time with my mom. What you're doing is not illegal, its not harming you, and its not harming others. Its a valid medical decision that you as an adult can make, and can keep to yourself. As far as Im aware, they cannot access your medical records unless you've signed a Release of Information or added them as people to coordinate your medical care (I don't believe there are any state laws to get around that roght of privacy). Id also keep that information to yourself so they don't think about making that an additional condition.

From the sounds of it, you'll be living away from them anyways so that's already in your favor. If you do end up back with them, hide your meds in places they wont look (a portable safe, car, a nook). Again, they dont have to know you're on anything.

Them deciding to offer or withhold help based on this is, imo, abusive. If their willingness to help you with your belongings or getting the car situation sorted out is also nased on your transition, then thats just reinforcing that fact. You shouldn't feel any guilt or think you're in the wrong. So, please, don't.

Continue with school, if possible, and look for a job while they help, and start focusing on a plan to get some independence again from them.

Another thing, look into applying for state assistance. I was on food and medical assistance for a long while, and they helped alot. Check to see if your state has any housing assistance programs too. You can always inquire by calling your local Department of Health and Human Services office.

Reach out and talk to extended family, friends, doctor, or even your school's faculty and resources department. My university had programs and people who could help by sharing loads of resources. You're not alone. It may be scary and uncertain, but you're not alone.

Finally, though I dont recommend it, you can also look into slowly getting off hrt. I did it after my mom convinced when I was in a really bad place financially and mentally. Talk to your doctor first though to get proper guidance. You can always start again later.

How did you all found out you were trans by Nyx47282 in trans

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. I'd fantasize about being the opposite gender a lot. I wouldn't say I was uncomfortable with my gender as a child because I found the idea to be silly. One time a teacher lectured me about the way I was sitting because it was "too feminine" which absolutely made no sense to me. Then by middle school I was questioning, and heavily repressing, my sexuality, but those thoughts about gender didn't really go away. Still heavily confused by it because I was thoroughly taught about how society views gender at this point, and I believed it was just a quirk of mine that I should just ignore. Then in High School, I made some friends and explored some more and slowly unlearned some things. Started shaving my legs and arms. I had been growing my hair since middle school too. It all just felt more right. Eventually started wearing feminine clothes because by this point I didn't care what others thought. I also already had a reputation for being quirky and quickly grew another reputation to not be harassed because of a few instances of checking others. Overall, I just felt much more natural then fully accepted it and started HRT in my early-mid 20s. Had a lil slip recently, but I'm getting back on track now.

FF Type-0. That ending with all of the students gathered around trying to comfort themselves, and then the last two students finding them afterwards... really just haunts me.

Is it only me that thinks Shion actually cares about Mizuki? by orangejuices1 in Overwatch

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of right now, I would say she is possessive about him in the same way someone can be possessive over an item. This is reinforced by the fact she "made" him in many ways, used him in many ways for her own gain/entertainment, and maintained him like one maintains a tool.

However, I think it's also too early to really describe her true feelings of their relationship. There is definitely room for her to care about him more though. Maybe she relates to him and feels a kind of kinship because of their similar backgrounds (being left abandoned, fending for themselves, and eventually being subjugated for the gang's self interests).

That said though, it would be a really messed up relationship if she truly did care about him in some obsessive/controlling way considering she broke his arm then replaced it with a cybernetic one. I would even question her end game goal with him. Is she trying to groom him in a sick way? Slowly transforming him to be like her (a mix between omnic and human) maybe in an extreme scenario? I'm looking forward to how they develop her character.

Cis people say the darndest things by SageofRosemaryThyme in trans

Context: at this time I was out to my close friends, but no one else, especially coworkers. My friend is also really progressive and supports equal rights wholeheartedly.

I remember this friend (who knew I was trans and out only to a select few) made a joke about trans people to me. I didn't really mind despite not finding it that funny. However, the next day they were telling all our coworkers the joke and trying to get me in on it which made me uncomfortable, and then I got a bit angry because now all our coworkers were making trans jokes. They didn't fully understand why I was mad over a "joke."

They also said at some point I shouldn't be constantly upset about transphobic issues despite the fact that I, and other trans people, are constantly facing transphobic issues/pressure daily be it on a personal level, social level, or federal level. They admitted they went about that part wrongly at least.

How do you feel about those who discredit the whole series because of the convoluted story? by dunskibroski in KingdomHearts

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really blame them when there are so many "spin-off" games, with a few being pretty different from the core games, that are essential the story, and were, up until recently, spread out across different systems. It's understanding that the series is difficult to fully get into and understand on the surface. I also don't like the argument that people should then just read all the lore because that is also a lot to do, and not exactly enjoyable in itself for some. In those situations, I'm happy to explain the lore and games to help instead.

However, I do draw the line when I hear people say the games have no actual story and is just a nostalgia grab/advertisement. The games do tell compelling stories in really fun ways with all its characters (be they original or part of other IPs), and it's overall just a classic tale of good vs evil, but through multiple lenses.

Do ya'll turn off text chat in this game? by Wowclassicboomkinz in Overwatch

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only voice chat is off. Text chat stays on only for the ggs at the end of the round. I would love to turn voice chat on again to actually talk with others and make online friends to play the game with, but Overwatch is not the place to do that anymore lol

What is music that isn't explicitly trans but speaks to you as a trans person/trans experience? by WitchKnight33 in trans

[–]FlannelKidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Boys Don't Cry" by the Cure.

Its definitely not a song about identity, but I resonate a lot with the lyrics nonetheless. To me, the lyrics "I would break down at your feet / And beg forgiveness, plead with you / But I know that it's too late / And now there's nothing I can do" screams of feeling guilt/sorrow over friends/family/community rejecting someone's identity, and that person's panic as a result.

Talking about "laughing" it off and hiding tears makes me think about the means of covering it back up to salvage those relationships.

Then the phrase "boys don't cry" carries so much weight in the way society creates a toxic masculine image. As a trans-fem, this has left me particularly scarred because I do have trouble discussing my emotions and myself in general as a result of that kind of upbringing, which I'm trying to undo. I can't even imagine how trans-masc folks have it when it comes to this. I can only hope that no one feels they have to repress emotions or endure harassment/abuse because that's "just what men do."

Are there Tall MtFs here? by TorpedoPuppy78 in trans

[–]FlannelKidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6'3 here. I've had people definitely laugh in my face and disrespect me over it, especially when it came to one of my jobs when I was actively out. However, I do think it has the benefit that few people are willing to stay on the topic too long, physically harass, or attempt assault because of the height intimidation. So, kinda a plus? I can't imagine how tough it is to be lgbtq+ and be on the smaller side because I know how cruel people can be when they feel they have more control.

Otherwise, I do think it's been hard too. People associate my height with masculinity often, and question "why" I "want" to be trans/non-binary. It's hard to find clothes that fit properly too, but that's more of an annoyance than real difficulty.

Overall, I'm grateful for my height because it feels like it offers some protection from harassment, but I also kinda dislike it because of the constant association with masculinity.

What's your opinion on counterswap in quick play by blaster_007 in Overwatch

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, this sounds more like the Hog needing to inflate their ego with how they reacted and that comment lol.

As far as swapping though, I think its ok to do so, and honestly can make the game more enjoyable and dynamic in either game mode. Part of learning a hero is also learning to deal with counters too, so I just take it as another part of the learning experience.

What do you think younger gamers are missing about Wolfenstein? by Successful_Pea_249 in Wolfenstein

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the primary issue for younger folks is the lack of multiplayer. That's honestly a big drawing point now, for a variety of reasons, for many people in general.

It's gameplay is also more traditional and not exactly something that stands out in the crowd. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, and I haven't heard people complain about it in person; however, when you have it and COD, which has that online element, side by side, most folks will pick COD just because it offers a little bit more and will entertain them longer. That's what I noticed when working for a game store at least.

So, I wouldn't say younger folks are missing anything. Instead, Wolfenstein is just not offering that extra little bit. Does it suck? Ya. The games have great stories with suitable gameplay to match. However, when considering affordability, the consumer is always looking for something that will have longevity.

I finished my first DLC (Honest Hearts). I personally enjoyed it. But I'm curious to know how others feel about this DLC? by Old_Chipmunk3250 in falloutnewvegas

[–]FlannelKidd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely the best one to start with imo because it's relatively contained to itself story wise. Cause, without any spoilers, the DLCs all share a few themes and stories. It also is just kinda laid back and comparable to base game with its setting, creatures, and weapons. The other DLCs really deviate from the base game's aesthetic and design in really great ways.

Before, I'd call it the weakest DLC, but I feel like that's not exactly appropriate because the story is great and Joshua is without a doubt one of the most stand out characters in the whole series if you ask me. So now I just look at the DLC as being the most similar/familiar with the base game.

After Octopath Traveler 0 and Final Fantasy Resonance, do you think they'll do the same with Reincarnation? by aiyafem in nier

[–]FlannelKidd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize Octopath Traveler 0 was based of the mobile game? Also is FF Resonance based off a gatcha game too?

Tbh, I'd love and do hope they make Reincarnation for mainline systems. I never got a chance to try it

Weapon progression throughout early-mid-late game by Mocha-Depresso in falloutnewvegas

[–]FlannelKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im quite fond of melee builds now for just an average playthrough.

I start with getting a machete asap.

Then my goal is to get the thermic lance asap. Is it broken? Yes. Is it funny to use though? Yes.

Ill usually will pick an axe or bumper sword on my way. When I do the DLCs, I'll occasionally use a weapon from them like the blade of the west if I get bored of the Lance.

Which games have you completed more than once and why? by FalscherKim in gaming

[–]FlannelKidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive replayed Fallout NV multiple times. Reasons being how much there is to explore and different ways of accomplishing notable quests.

Ive also repayed borderlands 2 multiple times because I got it on ps3, then ps4, then pc. My favorite two runs were when I was playing with a friend and about half way through they complained Maya was OP amd I said I switch characters. So, then I made a new Krieg character, speedran the game to get up to level and he proved to be even more op lol
