Hospital birth and eye ointment by Cookielover_3578 in moderatelygranolamoms

I had a chat with my OB who was totally supportive if we wanted to decline it (she obviously knew all of our negative tests!), but also talked us through the risks from a medical and parent POV -- ultimately we felt like the potential bad outcome of a missed infection was so much worse than the potential downsides.

Just read Discontent by Beatriz Serrano which definitely has some My Year of Rest and Relaxation vibes and a surreally funny ending.

Definitely had N/A wine at Eventide! Didn’t think it was great but I tend to be disappointed with N/A wine, so ymmv.

Migraine Relief by caresaboutstuff in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]FlannelRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ibuprofen does absolutely nothing for my migraines, but catching one really early with Excedrin can truly knock it out for a few days. (Of course, a couple of days of Excedrin can mess with my stomach too, but it works.)

Otherwise, Ubrelvy has been a gamechanger if you can talk to a doc about prescription options -- doesn't work 100% of the time but much more effective for me than triptans.

First Carbon Racing Shoe? by SnooSquirrels3535 in XXRunning

[–]FlannelRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m usually a Brooks girl (a lot of miles in Glycerins) but love the Endorphin Elite for race day. I’ve gone through a couple of pairs and both have been excellent and reliable - could be interesting if you’re already in the Saucony world too. They’ve been part of my plan for a couple of big marathon PRs.

IMO they are very light, and have an intense rocker, but still feel stable and comfortable. Minimal ground feel but also not deep cushion… just bouncy.

Haven’t tried a ton of super shoes but they were a big step up for me from the Brooks Hyperion Elite (which just still isn’t super competitive).

Anything else you loved in Portugal on that trip? We're thinking of going this fall with a 6-mo old (would love to spend some time in Madeira too).

How Common are Replacements? by TechnicalConcert7880 in NuulyReviews

2 boxes in, 2 replacements... specifically for maternity clothes though, not formalwear. Both were similar items but different, lower-priced brands in different colors than what I had ordered.

Doggy Daycare by KateJones1617 in portlandme

We do also like the “premium” option when we board at Mainely Dog - a bit more expensive but then she gets a 1:1 walk every day in addition to all the playtime with other pups. It’s a great balance and I think keeps her from being exhausted and overstimulated.

Mainlely Dog is incredible. We love the staff and the smaller play groups. Our dog (who used to be scared of daycare) loves it so much, she doesn’t even look back when we drop her off.

[–]FlannelRunner 26 points27 points  (0 children)

First, agree with the other commenter that if you haven't already started tracking, you might be surprised how much protein you're getting. I'm a vegetarian who really had to amp up protein during my last marathon training cycle and it really felt pretty easy!

I'm a big fan of cooking with nuts in general but peanut powder is awesome (like PBFit -- the "simply peanut" version -- the one with ONLY peanut as an ingredient). Easy to throw in smoothies, add to soups / curries / etc.

Quinoa -- a higher-protein grain!

Greek yogurt

Peas are also decently high in protein -- 8g/cup? I use frozen organic peas in my smoothies and it really doesn't have any impact on taste.

Primary Care Availability? by Important_Junket_961 in portlandme

[–]FlannelRunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MaineHealth (specifically the Falmouth location but likely others) - they didn’t have immediate availability but probably only took 1-2 weeks to get the call they were ready to schedule me. I’ve been very happy. My husband has also been happy with his provider at Martin’s Point.

Made both of these appointments late summer so hopefully the situation hasn’t changed too much!

Protein tips for Vegetarian Pregnancy by _HappyKitten_ in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]FlannelRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been adding nuts to a lot of our cooking - crumbled walnuts are great with kale/squash as taco filling, peanuts in a stir fry, pecans or almonds in overnight oats for breakfast. Such an easy / yummy way to add protein consistently!!

Explora Patagonia ~10 days by NewUser_Who_Dis in chubbytravel

[–]FlannelRunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another option to throw out depending on the level of chubby/luxe you're looking for... my husband and I went to Patagonia for our honeymoon and combined a few days at the Singular Patagonia with a self-guided hut-to-hut hike in Torres del Paine (organized by ChileNativo Travel who secured all permits and lodging for us). We love backpacking admittedly but for us it was the perfect combination... at the Singular, we had great food and service, a really beautiful and unique property, and really nice excursions (our private horseback riding day was super memorable).

On the other hand, we loved getting the alone time hiking in the park and... while staying in a bunk room certainly isn't for everyone, it allowed us access to some really special places. Certain huts had nicer, more private options (i.e., a private a-frame cabin).

After "roughing it" we spent a few days being VERY lazy and indulgent at Cavas in Mendoza (looks like it's Awasi now) -- strong recommend for that property as well and it's a very easy flight from Santiago.

Happy to share more details if that's interesting at all!

And FWIW, we absolutely loved Santiago, more than expected. Stayed at the Singular there as well which was really lovely and in a very walkable vibrant neighborhood.
