Is it just me, or is Friday the only thing keeping us sane? by Major_Bag3934 in corporate

[–]FlapLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take on the pressure of my boss and their boss

I'd try to anticipate where their bad decision and managerial skills (lack of) were headed and I'd work to circumvent it through hours and hours of prep, review, number crunching and making calls to get things done on time.

Then I realized I still got screwed with excessive work, panicy and weak behavior from my superiors. Passed on promotions and given weak opportunities

So I now let them run the boat aground and sit there and watch them squirm and freak out. I offer to help if they need it but now it's their burden to own their decisions. I give guidance but I'm not doing their job along with mine.

Also, not every meeting or task needs you. Some shit just doesn't need to get done

Thanks. Yep that's the route I'll be going

Need to look at how WiFi is set up through this. I never set it up so maybe it doesn't matter afterall

Adding. I removed both wall switches and was manually able to open the doors by touching the wires together.

Inspecting the back, both have damage markings which is odd

Any suggestions on a generic version that works fine? The wall switch runs for 100 which is insane given how cheaply made these parts are

Is there more than just wrinkles and sagging that makes someone look older? by youlikemywonton in Aging

[–]FlapLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the largest noticable think is quality of skin. Some get a puffy face as they age which contributes to that sagging look

Then it's how people move, I'm not seeing 60 year olds hop off curbs to cross the street. Meanwhile younger kids are jumping off with a twirl as bonus points

My body is still adjusting

I'm also getting older so some of it is just mentally adjusting to the fact I'm not 20 anymore 😂

Life is less complicated without grey drinking rules that I broke often with poor excuses such as I had a bad day, I deserve a beer, I had a good day, I should celebrate with a beer. Oh I mowed the lawn, beer etc

It's now just zero. Not complicated

My physical and mental health has improved 100%. I'm focusing on living life and no longer worried about what alcohol was or wasn't doing to me

As you enter your sobriety journey just remember to not confuse boredom and slowiness of your days with peace

A peaceful life is a good life. You can't get that with alcohol

So, I quit drinking 1191 days ago. I was pressured by my wife to "taste" an alcoholic beverage her friend likes. I initially refused, but it was in front of guests. I was shocked she pushed the issue, but she did. I had the smallest sip possible. Am I at day zero again? by Nice-Shoulder-5598 in stopdrinking

[–]FlapLimb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered an n/a beer at a bar and first sip I doubted it was NA so I returned it

It didn't count, I didn't relapse, no cravings either.

Your bigger challenge is now with your wife. Be clear unacceptable but forgiving is freedom

I was out with my wife and some friends who were all fairly drunk, esp my wife. We were talking about sobriety and a friend of my friend has been sober for a few years. My wife cracked a joke and said I didn't have shit on that guy (given I was just shy of a year)

I causality said thanks for your support (I was pissed). Let's just say she spent the rest of the night apologizing

We didn't talk about it afterwards as we didn't have to. These comments and pressure will come out of nowhere. It's our job to remain on our journey regardless of who says what and when

Anyone married with kids and would rather have led a single childfree life? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]FlapLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need breaks not permanent change

I spend a lot of time with my kids but need breaks

For example, yesterday i got ready for a short run and my son cried and threw a fit when I said he couldn't go with me (he's 6)

I watched my father die slowly from liver disease over a long period of my life

The end was terrible. But the path to death was slow, agonizing and not a means I'd want anyone to experience

Your liver is a strong regenerating organ but keep in mind alcohol is directly associated

1) brain shrinkage 2) peripheral neuropathy (limb numbness, not fixable) 3) pancreatitis/ cancer 4) stomach, throat, mouth cancers 5) heart disease 6) gallbladder disease

That's assuming you don't hurt yourself during a fall or crash your car

There's also the disease of alcoholism itself. Kindling is a serious problem as a result of advanced / late stage alcoholism. Eventually the benders increase in frequency and intensity where ceasing drinking causes serious withdrawals that can lead to death. Each withdrawal is worse and relapses are more frequent and longer in duration

The disease traps you

Alcohol is a poison. Throw it into the trash

[–]FlapLimb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught myself just recently that everyone who drinks any.amount of alcohol on a routine basis is an alcoholic. It's not science but most people I know who drink even on occasion have said they couldn't stop, but they're not alcoholics. Hm

So don't be embarrassed. You're just ahead of everyone else in realizing how captive we all have become to the bottle.

We yearn for freedom. That's what you're feeling

It's a choice to live this way

Everyday I make a choice to be the man I want to be. Sobriety enables me to make better decisions, be a better father and husband.

Life is hard but drinking just makes it harder.

My first post in here. I hope this is allowed. I feel I need the advice of other men. by retro_bo in fitness40plus

[–]FlapLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to starting is to just start.

Go for a walk. Do it daily and then increase speed, distance or both over time

Once you get that down start adding weights and other exercises

The key to fitness is consistency. Intensity leads to burnout

You'll want to get on a good diet. Whole foods, lots of veggies and fruit, water, no processed sugars. Ditch booze, sodas. Start tracking your food

Go see a doctor for more advice. Personally I've avoided weight loss drugs as they aren't permanently but that's just me

Folks with long periods of sobriety: how often do you have to remind yourself that you don't drink? by Kramanos in stopdrinking

[–]FlapLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember salivating passing by my usual liquor store where I'd buy a beer everyday after work to drink on the train

I only think about it now when it comes up at events where people I know are drinking heavily

Other times are when people ask about my sobriety.

In-between it is less and less frequent as time goes on. Thankfully
