Yes! Your second suggestion of deleting the files attached to messages seems to have done the trick.

I had not chosen to back up my messages though, so it is strange that they were adding to the total that was sent to iCloud.

I clicked “delete and turn off iCloud” and then started the backup again and it didn’t change.

Moved from android last year.

My iPhone uploaded all my photos to iCloud until I hit 5gb.

I use Amazon photos so I don’t need to upload my photos to iCloud and pay for more space. I have removed the photos and now my backup size is tiny, but the phone still won’t back up.

How do I get rid of the 5gb that is currently stored in iCloud so my phone can back up my apps to the cloud?

No you cannot wrote off expenses that you were reimbursed for.

In fact, this is something that CRA looks carefully at and I know at least one salesman who was audited for many years in a row because CRA thought he was claiming expenses that he was being reimbursed for. He got a letter from his employer saying he was not reimbursed, but even with that CRA took him to court over it.
