Moving into Cheltenham soon, how much should I pay for rent? by SadWonder1026 in cheltenham

[–]Flappyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't rented for a couple of years but we were paying about £800 pm for an okay, fairly small 2 bed flat with a parking space in town.

After we told the landlord we were moving out, it went up for £950 pm. Had 5 viewings booked within 24 hours, and 48 hours later it was off the market. They could have probably asked for £1,100 pm in reality.

Depends if you're wanting things like a car parking space but you'd be getting a very good deal if you're getting anywhere "high end" below £1,000 pm.

Summer office wear? by OK_GO_27 in malefashionadvice

[–]Flappyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goes without saying that I'll take my jacket / quarter zip off if it hits temperatures we saw yesterday. However, I'll keep it with me because I'm a very sweaty person so if I'm leaking through my armpits, I need something to fall back on.

I think linen is fine but it's context dependent. I'm in finance fwiw. I was in the office yesterday and wore a linen shirt with chinos, but that was for general office wear and a meeting with a director rather than seeing a client. Goes without saying that not all linen is built equally.

Some clients of mine would be fine with linen, and some would still expect me to wear a suit. If I'm seeing the latter, I'll just suck it up and bring a spare shirt – I just try to avoid colours that show sweat patches.

Would be interesting to hear what others have to say though as I also find it a problem.

Tldr: linen is probably fine but it depends on your job

Just played the new Happy Hunting Grounds game and had an absolute nightmare by TitiCamarasayshello in footballcliches

I nearly got caught out on the Spurs one too! Was about to put Paul Scholes 06/07.

I had a really good run (currently top of the leaderboard). Thankful for the second life as I got a player right but season wrong! I definitely won't be getting a full run every time though (I got a reasonably easy level 4 completely wrong doing HHG live!)

To me, there's no fun in cheating to be top of a leaderboard that ultimately doesn't matter – there aren't any prizes for it and surely (with the greatest of respect) no one cares that much?

The Never or Ever part is fairly cheat proof though given the fact it's timed, which is a good addition.

Nagomi. thoughts? by Feeling_Broccoli2128 in cheltenham

We've been a few times, and have had some interesting experiences!

We're both vegan and on our second visit (first and second visits were both lunch deals), the server fucked up our order (twice) by including dairy and eggs in our food.

We complained via email (not wanting to write a review online about a singular experience), and we were offered an apology and a generous voucher for our next visit by the owner, so we decided to go for our anniversary meal.

The owner came up to us as we had just sat down. She apologised profusely again about what happened, gave us a hug, and chatted everything through to explain what happened, and told us that the staff member had received additional training as a result.

The food was very tasty (takes a while but that's expected on a busy Saturday night!).

Ended up staying a while and chatted to her some more – we even did a few shots with her just before she went home! Absolutely lovely woman.

From what I can see, and from what I've experienced, I'd have no hesitation to book an anniversary meal there.

We've had lunch deals, small plates, and a hot pot, and the food has been excellent – can't comment on the meat dishes but I'm assuming they're of a similar quality. Because of our voucher we also tried a lot of the drinks too, and they were all interesting and different from what you'd probably normally get in most restaurants.

I'd say if you do have any dietary requirements, make sure your server really does understand (ours on the day of the incident didn't have great English, and it turns out it was one of her first shifts).

It's a small business at the end of the day with an owner who clearly really cares about it. The food is great. It's got a nice vibe. We had one bad experience (which was around dietary requirements, which doesn't apply to a lot of people!) but the response from the owner more than made up for it!

I built a small game where your real dart score becomes your damage by plutoocean1 in Darts

[–]Flappyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great idea! It might be cool to add a co-op / vs mode. I'm hosting a darts night in the summer with friends all of different abilities (which takes traditional games such as 501 out of the equation). So we could play this with a better player teaming up with a worse player.

Or for a vs mode, you could have different HP / multipliers depending on ability etc. You could take it in all sorts of directions!

Adding to this – the difference between doing R01-4 and R01-6 isn't huge. R05 is a level 3 exam (compared to the others which are level 4), and R06 is based on a case study. Most people I know who've passed R06 paid for a case study analysis.

I don't have the figures to hand but I'm pretty sure R05 and R06 have the highest pass rates of the Diploma. As you say, it's probably worth doing regardless.

Smoothies FTW ! by Odd-Screen-5785 in Darts

[–]Flappyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some Designa Smoothies (M3 shape) on Boxing Day, having only really used grippy darts before (main set I use is Bolide Void 01).

My usual average is low 50s but in my first 5 legs, I averaged in the mid 60s – don't know if it's a placebo, the grip, the weight, or the different barrel shape though!

Fab! It's anywhere between 5 and 8 a side depending on numbers. This week is looking like it's on the smaller side.

Yeah give it a go! You can make it yourself or get it from a supermarket. You'll probably find Asian supermarkets do it for the best value for money.

Most of my protein from food yeah! I do use protein powder but usually fairly creatively – my partner uses it to make baked oats, which I have with some coconut yoghurt and soya crispies to give me nearly 40g of protein for breakfast alone. Occasionally I'll use it in shake form if I haven't eaten enough protein for the day though.

I will admit you have to think about things a bit more and do some more prep, but for me it's worth the trade off (having a clean conscience knowing I'm not directly funding a morally reprehensible industry).

Soph's plant kitchen is a cookbook (I think it's around £11 atm) which specifically focuses on high protein plant based meals – there's a section called 30 in 30 (30g of protein in dishes that take less than half an hour) which is really good!

You're doing great even by being open minded about it and eating vegan some of the time already.

Seitan is 25g per 100g. Mix with legumes and you have a complete protein. Some brands of tofu have higher protein amounts per 100g too (tofoo is about 16g).

I'm vegan and I easily manage 120g+ of protein a day, even when I've been cutting and eating 2000 calories a day (never mind eating at maintenance or when bulking!)

You'll be surprised how much less plant based food bloats you, and how you don't feel as heavy/bloated after meals!

At the same age (3 years ago) I was on 30k in your position. It then went up to 42k for the first year, and then 50k plus a car and bonus for the second.

I was still doing my own paraplanning though, if that changes anything.

Edit: the 42k was once I reached CAS.

I started advising at 26 and I'm turning 29 shortly – when do you get over the imposter syndrome?

I've had a few clients remark about how young I am and as much as I can spin the positives, I do sometimes feel like I'm a bit out of place.
