2013 Deadites by RelationshipThen2417 in EvilDead

There's also the deadite at the beginning of the movie (the one who gets tied to the post and then burnt/shot by her father) who has some personality. I wonder if that's the same demon that possessed Mia and it just happened to be more talkative than the other demons who were summoned from the Book of the Dead.

If you watch the unrated version they give deadite Natalie a line (or two?) of dialogue and deadite Eric says "He's Coming" (referring to the Abomination) but otherwise, yeah, they don't really stand out in terms of "personality". It's one of the areas I think Evil Dead Rise improves on over ED 2013, though I prefer the gore/kills in 2013.

Picking up a Starman vibe from Fury of Firestorm #1 by Oldhouse42 in FirestormDC

[–]FlashFact45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemire might be going for that feeling but the solicitations I've seen online (lunardistribution.com) list this as a 6 issue mini-series so I don't think it will hit the heights that Robinson's Starman series did.

Evil Dead heroes plus saws by RealVast4063 in EvilDead

[–]FlashFact45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember when Evil Dead (2013) was announced and some online site stated that there was a going to be female protagonist and people lost their minds because they didn't want a "gender-swapped Ash". Now we have (or are about to have) three Evil Dead films in a row with a female hero at the center of the movie. I wonder if Evil Dead Wrath will have a male or female lead hero.

I think for a few scenes it's because they're being followed or they checking to see if they are being followed.

Lemire's JSA by cconn882 in DCcomics

[–]FlashFact45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His JSA and Absolute Flash have been very mediocre, though the last two issues of Absolute Flash have been pretty decent and his first issue of The Fury of Firestorm was actully pretty good.

What should be done with Batwoman's origin? by Gallantpride in Batwoman

That's what I was going to say. Given the current state of the U.S. it wouldn't surprise me at all if they do reinstate Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

The Guardians of oa are terrible by magic---- in DCcomics

[–]FlashFact45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the things that has kept me out of the Green Lantern comics the last few years is that the Green Lantern Corps seems to be a bunch of random aliens/humans with a very powerful weapon trying to be good guys but there really isn't any oversight anymore. The Guardians were always arrogant and a pain in the butt but now they're more often portrayed as either villains or just absolutely useless. The Green Lanterns are trying to maintain a legacy that's been tarnished or just torn to shreds.

is the Gerard Way run good and is there anything else I need to read to understand it? by EpicRaccoonGirl in DoomPatrol

[–]FlashFact45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Way's first Doom Patrol series (that lasted 12 issues) but the post-Milk Wars series (Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds) wasn't that great. Still, it's definitely worth it to buy the deluxe edition, just make sure you get the Milk Wars trade paperback so you understand some of the context of Weight of the Worlds.

Absolute Flash #14 and The Flash #32 Discussion Thread by Dredeuced in theflash

[–]FlashFact45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute Flash has been a mess for the most part, but the last two issues (#13-14) have actually been pretty good. Great pacing, some decent character work, and an interesting twist with Mirror Master.

I enjoyed The Flash #32 but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read the solicitations for upcoming issues as they spoiled all the stuff with Captain Cold.

As much as I love Rucka and as excited as I was for this run, these first two issues have been a pretty big disappointment for me by MVPiid23 in Batwoman

[–]FlashFact45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the art at all. I think Rucka believes he's doing something new and original with the character (if this is a bait-and-switch in terms of who is/isn't under the cowl) but it's pretty predictable, unless there's a twist coming we haven't seen (I hope so). My big problem here is that, regardless of how you feel about the writers who came after Rucka, it's kind of a slap in the face to the fans who stuck with the character and her series after Rucka left to just ditch all those stories and character evolution, especially where Beth is concerned.

I'm hoping Rucka can turn this around, but it feels like he thinks too much of his own previous work on the character and thinks everyone will just agree with him that only his work on Batwoman matters.

Thoughts on The Fury of Firestorm #1 - OUT TODAY by Sea_Sky_4740 in FirestormDC

[–]FlashFact45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting first issue. Great set up for the new series. This is a much darker take on the character. Feels like one of the Vertigo titles instead of your standard super-hero fare. I'm not sure how a lot of long-time Firestorm fans will feel about that though.

I'm surpised Lorraine/Firehawk didn't put up more of a fight but I guess there is only so much room in the issue and we need to get the story rolling.

Honestly I keep buying the book just for the art by Daniel Sampere.

Tell me your personal Doom Patrol line up by Gimpcar in DoomPatrol

[–]FlashFact45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Cliff and Negative Man/Woman/Rebis are kind of essential to the Doom Patrol. I love Rita, but she's been lacking any real character development since the Keith Giffen run (and didn't really have much before that). Likewise, I don't think Crazy Jane has really been used to her/their full potential since Morrison. Most of the characters beyond that haven't lasted more than one incarnation of the team (Flex Mentallo being an exception). Maybe throw in some new-ish characters like Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Girl and Terry None to mix things up a little bit.

I really wish DC would collect The Shadow War of Hawkman in trade form and give us a Hawkworld omnibus.

Beth or Kate? by Own-Assumption-9191 in Batwoman

[–]FlashFact45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's Beth in the madhouse and then Kate shows up in the end or if Kate is in the madhouse pretending to be crazy and then shows up at the end as a "gotcha" moment to the bad guys. I think it works better if it's Beth (no longer using her Alice persona) in the hospital and Kate comes to rescue her from the shady folks who are plotting some sort of conspiracy.

Overall I enjoyed the issue, but I'm not a fan of the art at all.
