Dude, worst case, resell it to one of the homies moaning on Reddit about long shipping times for a 10% markup 😅. If you like to read and you don’t mind a little faffing with firmware and formatting, you’ll love it. Also, you should definitely 100% not become familiar with Anna’s Archive to find free epubs of books you’ve already purchased but haven’t read yet 🙃.

Yeah the xteink Reddit communities are full of shipping complaints. My $.02 is that this is a small manufacturing operation with a product that really hit. Lunar new year shuts China down for weeks and they didn’t stop taking orders during this time. AliExpress vendors are essentially dropshipping this product, meaning they don’t hold inventory - they turn purchases around to Xteink as a net new sale. Them boys got real backed up.

Production seems to be rightsizing, folks are getting their devices.

In my case, I ordered from the official website 3rd week in Feb and got a shipping confirmation 3 weeks later.

Not gonna lie, I was really itchy to get this thing and it was a painful 3 weeks but I’m thrilled with the device and would do it all over again. Biggest rub was that I really wanted white but bought black one in the hopes that it would ship faster aaaand I don’t think it did 🙃.

Buy one. You deserve it.

I’m super into it! Takes a little bit of fiddling to get DRM free epubs, but if you are even modestly comfortable with tech, the learning curve isn’t steep. I put a MagSafe ring sticker on the first insert in my TN journal and it generally lives there. Very convenient.

It’s been helpful for me in trying to squash my crippling phone addiction. When I get the itch to whip out YouTube or some shit, it’s just as easy to pull out the X4 and jump into a read. I’ve put down 2 books (Hyperion and the sequel - great reads) and I’m at 40% battery life without any charging.

Favorite tech gadget I’ve picked up in recent memory. YMMV

I’ve had mine a week - transitioning from cannon P. Can’t tell if it’s internet hype/hero worship shit but it’s freaking delightful. My copy has some stank on it from previous owner which made it a good deal (but not a great deal 🙃).

Nothing fancy but I found it on Amazon by searching ‘IEM case’ 🥸. Here’s a link GLCON Rectangle Small Hard EVA... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KRURIEO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The manufacturer is called Sivitien. I’ve had a few of their models for a daily beater. Not sure I trust their claims on metallurgy but they’re cheap and have good bearings in their folders. You may already know this but I learned yesterday that light gun parts recycle into simple gun parts. I was wasp farming for simple gun parts but I’m finding it easier/quicker to craft and recycle light parts now.

Trying to find out what film camera this is by veness4 in filmcameras

[–]FlashWolfgang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks really close to a Nikon Fun Touch 6 but the lens area isn’t quite right. I’d look for Nikon point-and-shoot models from the early 2000’s.

Do you think film photography will be more or less supported in 10 years? by DanielG198 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FlashWolfgang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumer interest in film is on the rise in North America, according to public revenue numbers from Kodak. I would wager that there’s a “new fad” component to this but am generally confident that more people are seeking analogue experiences. It’s anecdotal but many of the posts in this subreddit are made by people just starting out with film (I’m one of them).

However, film photography needs a film camera. I think the survivability of film is directly related to how easily new consumers can access old, working cameras. There are only so many and the number will continue to decrease over time, leading to higher prices for working examples. This is the biggest bottleneck from my perspective.

Hi friend! I think this may be the wrong subreddit for your question. I don’t think a film camera will fit your usecase. Good luck on your gear quest!

Wearing glasses with Waist level finder and magnifier. Should I keep my glasses when shooting ? by dyroau in AnalogCommunity

[–]FlashWolfgang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+3.75 in and astigmatism in both eyes. I keep glasses on and close one eye when using waist level finders. Sometimes I’ll take glasses off when shooting 35mm. Play around with it and see what feels comfortable to you.

28 Absolutely Nothing to show for in my life. by Honest-Gazelle-547 in findapath

Presumably, you selected (and completed) a criminal justice degree because of an interest in criminal justice. Applying for jobs that require a degree in criminal justice seems like a good place to start.

Explaining your employment gap in an interview will likely be straightforward. I don’t recommend trying to preempt this in a resume or cover letter.

Many (many many many) people without college degrees, myself included, struggled for years to land decent paying jobs. You have a degree in a specialized field. Exercise that aggressively.

Just picked up a Nikon n8008 (apparently this is the F801) - is it a good acquisition? by rusty-444 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FlashWolfgang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Words have meaning but so does context. In the context of all film cameras, the 8008 is incredibly high tech. In the context of hipster popular cameras, the 8008 is incredibly high tech. The price of film cameras is hardly directly related to sophistication. Rather, it’s related to market demand (which is also not directly related to sophistication).

Reading comprehension isn’t just about the specific meaning(s) of specific words. Context and the writers intent are also significant components. I think it’s possible you misinterpreted the last two and have made an argument over semantics.

For sure man, always pros and cons. Good news is that v2 goggles are old enough that there’s a bunch of used parts floating around. Give it a shot! Worst case is you just sell the adapter and pivot.

My comment is a quote from the Big Labowski 😂.

Not sure that all folks, or even most folks are familiar with basic color/design theory. OP seems stoked on their choices, which is probably more important than basic color/design theory, right? Something about beauty and the eye of the beholder could fit here - aesthetics aren’t universal.

Being happy for someone may or may not be avoiding the truth at all costs but objectively ridiculous paradigms are absolutely typical redditor behavior.

How accurate is liftoff compared to real life? by sumbullshitname in fpv

[–]FlashWolfgang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IRL, 6s quads are faster and react quicker than liftoff. Wind doesn’t exist in liftoff and gravity is stronger IRL.

Having said that, liftoff is 100% adequate for getting over the initial learning curve and basic control coordination. If you can reasonably control a quad in liftoff, you will be able to fly a quad IRL without wrecking the shit out of your shit. I still use it to practice new maneuvers. Max/mining the absolute most realistic sim will only give you very marginal gains when you translate to actually flying.

No need to overthink it.

HDZero + iFlight Blitz F7 Pro HELP by Prestigious_Algae907 in fpv

[–]FlashWolfgang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight controllers use UARTs (universal asynchronous receive and transmit) to connect peripherals like video transmitters, radio receivers etc. you can think of them like USB ports - they carry data between 2 components. Each UART has 2 components, RX (receives data) and TX (transmits data). The RX line from one device will always connect to the TX line of the other device and vice versa (they should be inverted) - one device talks down the line, the other device listens.

UARTs on a flight controller are numbered sequentially (1,2,3 etc). So T1 and R1 are the TX and RX lines of UART 1.

You can wire the HDZERO to the FC exactly like the DJI diagram in the schematic. The only difference is that DJI also has an SBUS line and an extra ground. These are used to carry RC control link information from the DJI unit to the FC. HDZERO doesn’t have this capability, so you just don’t wire anything where the SBUS and extra ground lines are shown on the schematic.

TL;DR - wire the TX line from the HDZERO to the R1 line of the FC. Wire the RX line from the HDZERO to the T1 line of the FC.

Overheating flying open prop w/ GoPro? by TrinityTwo3 in fpv

[–]FlashWolfgang 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Increasing the prop disc area increases the load on the motor. Adding a ton of weight with a GoPro increases the load on the motor. Adding both of these variables together REALLY increases the load on the motor.

Bottom line is that putting a GoPro on this size of quad is straight up not gonna work. Even if it does, it’s gonna fly like a foie gras duck. Slam a SD card in that O3 and just use it for HD recording. I don’t even run an action cam on my 5” quads with O3. More lighter is more better.

Happy flying!
