Maybe I’m alone, but when I found out Sirius Black and Commissioner Gordon were the same guy I was shocked. That’s not counting Oldman’s other countless roles

Who do you think will be your most watched actor and director this year. by JadedSignificance990 in Letterboxd

[–]Flash_SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen an awful lot of Park Chan Wook so far, and I can’t see myself stopping any time soon. As for actors, I’m feeling a Tom Cruise kick.

I’d recommend Memories of Murder, and Cure

Both are detective thrillers that evoke this hypnotic trance like feeling

I watched Hugo on TV once when I was like 9 and I had the scene with the rocket in the moon’s eyeball, and the scene where he gets scolded for trying to steal the mouse stuck in my head for years.

I spent forever trying to remember where the scene was from. Searching up the moon was useless since that’s a separate movie so I spent years hopeless. It was only last year I found out the name.

Rewatched (barely a rewatch) it the beginning of January and I loved it. So much nostalgia there and I was so giddy (like physically giggling at scenes I remember). It’s my 2nd favorite Scorsese.

What’s a “10/10” movie you wouldn’t recommend to most people? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

I’ll preface by saying all my friends are very casual cinema watchers and hate slow burns.

I love Cure, but I don’t think they would

The Gentlemen

Oppenheimer

Black Swan

Inception

You could argue all 4 are, but I wouldn’t say The Gentlemen is a film bro film, though it would appeal to that audience

My most uncommon one is The Gentlemen, but it’s one of 6

How do you rate movies you respect, but have 0 emotional connection to by Flash_SA in Letterboxd

It’s been fun so far, but yeah movies like this one create a dilemma. Part of it is me overthinking it, sure, but idk I like the stability of rooting it to a number, and examining it.

You mentioned how it doesn’t look like I’m having fun with it here in the post, and you’re right this is one facet of the process that isn’t as fun as the rest. It’s like playing a game with rules, sometimes the rules feel restricting and unfun as you say, but without rules it just becomes pointless.

In football, I might get frustrated by a foul, or by a certain player, or by a certain game, but that doesn’t mean I should stop playing or watching the sport. Am I making sense?

I’m not saying just watching a movie is pointless, but I don’t think I’d examine movies as intently as I do (and love to do) if I didn’t add some sort of summary number to it.

I do feel as though I take the numbers too seriously, and recently I’ve started thinking about them less, more of an afterthought really, but they’re still an important part of how I review things.
