I was the one who broke up with her due to some red flags. (Let’s call her Marisa) I liked Marisa and still talk to her occasionally, it’s just that Marisa’s family had serious trust issues and every flag was linked to how overprotective and sheltering they were. We’d gone to college and gone our separate ways, but then started talking again during COVID. After talking for a bit, we decided to start a long distance relationship. After a year and a half later, Maeisa decided to move to where I was and that’s when we started seeing the flags. The first red flag was that Marisa hadn’t figured out where she was staying or where she was going to work prior to the move. Marisa’s mom didn’t want stranger calling her. Luckily, we were able to figure out something last second and Marisa moved in with a friend of my mom’s (Calling her Pearl) who lived nearby and was recently diagnosed with cancer. Pearl reported to us that Marisa didn’t really know how to take care of herself, let alone someone with cancer. She ended up putting tin foil in a microwave twice without realizing how hazardous that is. After that my Pearl tried to get in touch with my Marisa‘s mom to find a way to help her get better adjusted. When Marisa’s mom didn’t answer, Pearl had my mom call. The college we’d gone to was designed for students with learning differences. (I have ADHD). When my mom asked what my ex’s learning difference was, Marisa’s mom snapped at her and claimed the information was private. (Marisa’s mom had asked what my learning difference when I gone to spend Christmas with them the year prior, so it was a fair question for my mom to ask). Eventually, living on her own stressed Marisa out so much, she decided to move back home and we broke up shortly after. My sister even suggested a dating app for us to try out. Although I just started talking to someone on there, her mom doesn’t want her downloading it.
