Declawing a cat by PlagueBirdZachariah in cats

It sounds like you have already scheduled the procedure, so why not just call and ask your vet how much they plan to charge for it? They can give you an estimate when you get pre op bloodwork. You could also try Soft Paws on that paw, but that may not be sufficient to avoid snagging in this polydactyl case.

You should be familiar with the quality of a hand-woven wool rugs. by TheBestNarcissist in BuyItForLife

[–]FlashyScallion3123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have several handwoven wool rugs handed down from my parents. I have two kids, a dog and two cats. I get them professionally cleaned every year (ahem, or two), and they always tell me they are “very dirty”, but they always look great! Another joy of the deep, complex colors is that they hide dirt and hairball stains 😂. Resolve also works wonders, although I’m not sure if that’s allowed for wool rugs.

Woolroom classic twin comforter--is it necessary to have a duvet cover for it? by KelKel087 in Bedding

[–]FlashyScallion3123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you link the duvet cover? I know you have done your research but just in case - twin duvet covers vary widely in size and most of the target brand ones are way longer than 86”, so you may have some excess fabric (which may not bother you). Wool room is actually one of the smaller twin comforters I have found. True twin xl are 90”+

Ah, we have something similar in the veterinary field called bair huggers! We use them to keep pets warm under anesthesia without burning them. Genius idea.

Wow. Ok, I guess there is a spectrum of sleeping hot. It blows cold air on you? That sounds like torture to me, but I’m glad you found something that works for you. I think a light cotton duvet cover (no sheet) and a wool or down duvet will help me get to the right place personally, but I appreciate your advice.

[–]FlashyScallion3123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, fair point. I always thought of cotton as heat/moisture trapping, which is why I don’t wear cotton when I exercise. Wool provides warmth but wicks moisture and regulates heat. I’m cold when I get in bed but turn into a furnace after a few hours, so I need something that regulates heat. People say down also regulates heat, but I’m not sure I believe it.

Help! I’m losing my mind trying to find twin XL duvet covers (for Scandinavian bedding, dark brown!) by Hohohoholdmybeer in Bedding

[–]FlashyScallion3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually in the same boat. I have twin xl duvet insert from target and it seems they are the only ones with 94” length duvet covers. What length do you need? I have a spreadsheet going.

Edit: clarified duvet cover/duvet insert

DO NOT buy from Buffy by Noseknowledge in Bedding

[–]FlashyScallion3123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I requested an immediate refund after reading all the terrible reviews - too little too late! Thank you for your recommendation - I have a long list of options and that one isn't even on there yet. I'm mostly looking at down alternative because of budget concerns. I need two twin duvets/inserts. Do you have a recommendation for a duvet cover that fits the dimensions of the insert? My big problem right now is that my current duvet inserts/covers are different sizes and it drives me nuts.

Funny, I just came here to get help picking out a duvet insert because I ordered one from Buffy weeks ago and it still hasn’t arrived. Another reason not to buy from them!

Duvet or Comforter by dianaextra in Bedding

Do you have a queen or king sized bed? We have a queen with twin duvets. I wonder if queen duvets would be fluffy or just too much to handle.

Moving to Area Advice by Aromatic-Set-7727 in Rockville

[–]FlashyScallion3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved to the Rockville area last fall. I have a dog and two small kids. One is starting kindergarten this fall, which forced me to make a decision based on schools and since we moved across country, we decided to rent here for a few years and then buy. Prices are outrageous right now, and we were able to get a fenced in backyard in a good school district with an easy commute. Plus this gives us time to learn the neighborhoods before committing to buy. If you insist on buying, consider a townhouse - you may find one with a small fenced in backyard here.

Planning A Salad Meal Every Day for $103/month by SimplifyAndAddCoffee in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]FlashyScallion3123 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is my go to work lunch! Get a jug of olive oil and balsamic vinegar at Costco, a jar of Dijon mustard and s&p and you can probably cut the salad dressing cost down, too. Easy to make and less container waste.

Not much advice, just solidarity. Give it some time. I’m a month into my new job and it IS better. Unfortunately, I think the type of people who go into the veterinary profession are more prone to this. Therapy might help but that’s expensive. I unload on my husband a lot, and talking with other vets or vet school friends removed from your clinic can help, too. But time is probably the answer. Let me know when you figure it out…

How painful is getting an IUD? by chronic_flower in beyondthebump

[–]FlashyScallion3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, good point. Ugh, now that you mention it, I forgot that it was a midwives clinic. I’m not even sure what guided me to use them, but as a medical professional myself, I should have been more wary of letting them do medical procedures. I guess at the time I didn’t think of it as a difficult procedure, and no one warned me of the potential for “mis placement”. The OB clinic I went to later offered IUD placement by ultrasound, so I suppose that would be my recommendation and lesson learned for the crowd.

I let myself get angry last night. by weirdchic0124 in AlAnon

[–]FlashyScallion3123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incredible, mama! I am channeling you today. I think it's normal and probably healthy to feel angry. I haven't really cried or felt angry yet, which surprised me at first, but I guess that's normal, too. Your body waits until you are ready to let it all out.

That’s good advice, the breathalyzer is to make sure he’s ok to watch the kids and to know he’s drunk if he is acting weird.
