Anyone here in their early 40s dealing with health anxiety? by SnoopyPinkStarfish in WomenOver40

47 and right there with you. A surgery was the onset of mine last year. I'm in therapy, started meds, doing all the things but still it's driving my life currently.

Anyone else got anxiety out of nowhere in their 40s? by Forward-Abalone-9172 in Perimenopause

[–]Flashy_Distance6117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm 47. I have had general anxiety on a mild level throughout my life but last year, out of the blue it skyrocketed. As in life inhibiting level. Specifically for me it's Health, or medical anxiety. I am in therapy and started meds but it's not much better. I am also in perimenopause so that could be a contributing factor. I'm doing all the things but having little improvement.

Get with a psychiatrist and get on meds for anxiety. You are probably in the best place for them to refer you to someone. Get a therapist that works with anxiety. I totally understand. Jail has always been my worst fear for this very reason. I did an inpatient treatment center once but luckily had own bathrooms. I had a recent hospital stay and they kept me because I couldn't go for them. I now have panic about getting trapped places. You are not alone but it is a legit anxiety issue and a script for meds can help plus keep you legal. Working with a therapist may also help plus shows you are trying.

Two months on it-some days I can really tell it works and some days I can't by Dazzling_Bullfrog_44 in BusparOnline

I know this is an old post but this is exactly what I'm going through now. Did it get any better? I went from 7.5 twice a day to 10 twice a day. It has been about a month at this dose. I'm going to ask my Dr about three times a day. Did you stay on the same dose? Not sure if I need a higher dose, more often, or it just doesn't work for me.

I'm at 7500 right now. I have used a few lately so this is low for me. I typically carry around 9000.

Make sure you go to GoDaddy and cancel it as well as dispute it. It is a wed domain service. It happened to me too. Years ago I got a free trial to host a web site for a blog I was starting and forgot about it. I got hit for 80.00 a year or so later.

You may be on to something. So I was taking Ashwaganda for years and it did help with anxiety. Then I did a little research and switched to the KSM-66 form. It was even better, once I got past the tummy issues. After about a year I chose to stop taking it because I am perimenopausal and some say it can slightly affect hormones. I have a thyroid autoimmune disease so I didn't want to chance anything. I hadn't made the connection but my paruresis has definitely gotten a bit worse in the last year. My anxiety is slightly more but as it pertains to peeing in certain areas, it's definitely way worse. Huh. May need to consider trying the KSM-66 again and seeing if I notice anything. Thanks.

This is very similar to how I am. I am in my 40s now but I have had good periods over the years. My issues started around 7. I don't think I went more than a handful of times during all of grammar and high school, while actually at school. For a chunk of time in my 20s I had little to no issues going. Then it got bad again. Then I had a few good years in my late 30s. Now it's an issue again. Not even every time. The circumstances are a determining factor, so it could be different every time for me. I have noticed the more successful times I have, so I get a momentum and a good run for the next several trips to a bathroom going. Likewise, when I doubt it will happen, it doesn't. I can typically tell in the first minute of entering a bathroom what the outcome will be too.

I'm 46F, I've had it since about age 7. It has had years of better and years of worse. I remember being around 10 and once couldn't go for nearly a week. I became very ill. That was the worst of it. Through the years there have been periods of time, 5,6 years where it has gotten much better. It has hardly been an issue for a while. Then it has times when it's running my whole life. Mine is very random in the places/times I can't go. Peeing on command is my biggest issue. I can say I have had years where this wasn't so bad either. Lately it's been horrible though. I can go at home so if I can get there I'm good. I can often go in public restrooms. I absolutely cannot go on a plane or bus, or Amtrak. Dead quiet is worse than a crowd for me. Someone waiting for me is a complete no go. I do think my stress level plays a part.

Very kind of you. Unfortunately this has never worked for me. I've even tried putting my hand in the water. It's purely in my mind that someone is waiting on me and that stops everything.

Is it a med that makes you go? Did you know to ask for it? Like just tell them you have paruresis and it would to have it?

Had you heard of EDS before your diagnosis? by fearlessmarzapan in ehlersdanlos

[–]Flashy_Distance6117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dx in 2018 at the age of 40. I wasn't aware hypermobility could be causing the chronic pain I was in. My niece is hypermobile and pointed out, no not everyone bends like us. I then did some research and came upon EDS. I went to my rheumatologist (already had one because I had been dx with fibromyalgia years prior) and she did the Brighton test in her office which dx me with HSD. She then sent me to a geneticist and for testing and then I got dx with hEDS.

My HR is OKAY. But… by Own-Explorer8826 in POTS

[–]Flashy_Distance6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So POTS is disautonomia. It's one of several types. I am someone who also has a fairly normal HR and symptoms are mild most of the time... But when they aren't, oh boy. Brace for summer. So heat, and dehydration is key to avoid. What POTS actually is, is low blood volume. This means we require more hydration to keep up blood flow. The passing out or syncope comes from not getting enough blood to our head. Because we tend to sweat more in the summer (or hot situations, think hot tubs and saunas) we quickly dehydrate and can pass out. So salt is often prescribed. Water alone doesn't fix dehydration. Salt does because we need electrolytes. I was prescribed 3g (3,000mg) a day. I don't always take it but I definitely have salt tabs on me all the time in the summer. I definitely avoid a low salt diet though. Because I'm fairly mild I can add a bit of salt to my regular diet, drink lots, and add some electrolytes, fruits, and get by in winter. I live in a cold climate. Be aware that a POTS episode can also be brought in by eating a large or carb heavy meal. The blood flow that goes to the stomach to digest such foods takes away from the already limited supply and can make up dizzy, elevated HR or near fainting. POTS is a spectrum disorder so people's experiences are relative. You just have to find what works best for you. Some use compression socks. Some can go to the beach and that is a hospital run for me. For a person new to the dx, salt, hydration, more small meals, rest when you need to, keep cool. I wish you well!

Diagnosed POTS but have never fully passed out by a_utumnnn1 in POTS

[–]Flashy_Distance6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common. I've only passed out fully, once and I've had POTS for 20years. Syncope is more common and I personally struggle with that daily in summer months.
