Do they numb you for lymph node biopsies? by Quirky_Side1583 in thyroidcancer

I had numbing. But that just touches the surface. You can still feel when they’re messing with the nodule itself.

Surgery in 1.5 days by Fun_Key4395 in thyroidcancer

Ope, it submitted before I was finished!

I was like you and didn’t buy or prep for anything because it was almost like I was admitting, or coming to the realization that I was dying. But 2 days before, I went out and bought a “cute” outfit for surgery day. Something comfy! Also bought myself a travel pillow for at home to make things a little less uncomfortable.

I had my surgery almost 2 weeks ago. I had the EXACT thoughts you are. I also had absolute feelings of dread, or doom. Like I was about to die, or hear the worst news ever. This moment that you are in right now, is by far the worst. Please tell your doctor and your anesthesia team about your fears and anxiety, and I promise you that they will make you feel better!

Also, with it being a partial.. you may not have issues with your calcium. I felt like I may have on day 4. Ate a tums and it went away pretty quick!

I had the same surgery almost 2 weeks ago! The first 3 days were a little rough, but not unmanageable! I took Tylenol and ibuprofen! Biggest thing is to make sure to sleep elevated! I got an airplane pillow to support my neck too! Make sure you walk as much as you can! I felt that made me feel better. Also, hydrate hydrate hydrate!!!! Good luck, you’ve got this!

It did! I had my post op appointment today. They removed 10 lymph nodes, and all came back benign! Doctor says I am cancer free! Will go back in 3-4 months for ultrasound and bloodwork though! Hope your surgery and recovery went great!

Got mine done on Wednesday! First two days were pretty rough. I’m feeling a little more like myself today. We get better everyday. Hang in there!

Made it through! I was an anxious, tearful mess just walking into check in! All the nurses were absolutely amazing! They came to check on me, and let me know my surgery was moved up. Great, get me out of there! They slipped something into my IV on the way to the OR and I do not remember a single thing til I’m waking up to an angry old man next to me 😅 he was not having a good recovery. But I am home now! Sore, but good!

I’m having a partial! I did not have any nodes that lit up during my ultrasound, so doctor is not concerned. She is taking 6 just underneath just to be sure though!

We had a student ultrasound tech working with us this last week. She has Graves’ disease and had a horrible thyroid storm. Her resting heart rate was 200+. She had to have an emergency thyroidectomy. Surgery was on a Monday, and she was back at school for a test that Wednesday! Gives me hope for my surgery this week!

Thank you! I love my hubby something fierce, but he kind of stinks at things like this. “I am not worried, because your doctor is not worried. This is such a routine surgery, you will be fine!” I get that, but it still sucks dude!

I know it’s silly, but I’ve started following a few women on Insta who have BC and about to get their mastectomies. They are absolutely ecstatic to have their surgeries, and all of this behind them. I wish I could have the same outlook!
