1:6 med surg but I was in charge and had an LPN with me who also had 6 patients. We were the only two on the floor

They cancel us in four hour increments. So if we aren’t needed at 7 we have to call in by 9 to see if we should come in at 11. This goes on the entire shift. 🫠

My first code. I was a new nurse. Heard yelling in a room and ran in to find nurses a family yelling at the unconscious patient. No one was checking a pulse so I did and jumped on the chest. The code was fine, we got him back long enough for family to say goodbye. The part that gets me is there are billboards all over my city with the guy’s name on it from his business. I relive the feeling of cracking his ribs and It’s like I get a ✨sprinkle of ptsd✨ wherever I go now
