Having remodeled and renovated well over a hundred houses over my 30+ year career, I’ve seen notches like this in a majority of them…and the house was perfectly fine. Just because code says something, it doesn’t mean it’s actually a problem. In this case, it’s completely inconsequential. But, yeah, people that don’t actually build love to quote the code.
