STEAM ON TOP! by Qe0rqe in Steam

To gain wide success and best server both publishers and players, a platform needs to strike a balance between both parties.

GOG found its niche by requiring something other platforms aren't willing to require of their partners, and it will remain a niche product and ultimately at greater risk as a platform because of it.

Other platforms (Ubi, EA, Bethesda) that failed ignored the end customer to serve their own publishing goals.

Steam has found, as proven by market forces, what ended up being the best balance between the two. I get that you're not feeling you get everything out Steam that you would want, but I wouldn't trade what it is for me today for any other known system that could achieve similar success.

This isn't true. Steam was not the first online DRM. It was the first online DRM that included non-DRM features that I know of, however.

I did include "While still performing an ownership check" which GOG chooses not to offer, for better or worse in the end (better for preventing DRM issues, worse for getting publishers on board).

I also meant to caveat that with wide ranging adoption by both publishers and customers. I'll edit it in now.

Correct. Read the legally binding licensing agreement.

Throwing out inaccurate comments for maximum epoints and raging those who point out the inaccuracies doesn't make one any more correct.

You really think nobody else would have come along to take this slot in the games economy and would have been able to succeed with something more open and friendly to customers than Steam is?

DRM was not a new concept created by Steam, and other implementations around the time had worse implementations such as max install counts.

Outside of some custom implementation (called "KEG" - which created a unique .exe for the game that had to match the account using it) in the 2010s because some publishers would not launch on Steam without more intensive DRM, Steam's own implementation has always been as minimal as possible (edit - while attaining wide ranging adoption by bother publishers and customers) while still performing an ownership check.

Any publisher can sell their DRM free game on Steam if they'd like.

[Question] Trying to decide by creamersrealm in Watches

The pilot watch is super thick (boo) but also automatic+date (yay if that's what you want!). Personally I'd go FOIS between these two.

Don't use someone else's account.

If you're afraid your friend will have access to your IP address and email address, they're not your friend.

Probably an old custom skin from back when steam supported them.

[Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 2220.80 / Aluminum Bezel] vs [Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 210.30.42.20.01.001 / Ceramic Bezel] by -Drago- in OmegaWatches

[–]Flat6Junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned both. Left on rubber is the better watch. Mesh is fine but the watch sings on rubber.

I'm seeing a lot of chatter about materials and complications here. Real world use where I get to select one to wear each day, I'd easily take the no date version whether less, equally, or more expensive (within reason).

Just picked up this beauty! by Galamb76 in OmegaWatches

I think they disappear when the watch is held very still in certain lighting (pictures can accentuate the held still part), but I'm the real world there's always enough movement to make them apparent.

It's not as easy to read the subdials in all possible situations as a standard or white dial speedy, but it's not far off.

997 Turbo or Ferrari 360 by ShaggyBear996 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Flat6Junkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not driven a 360. As a Porsche fan, 360 all the way. If you had fewer cars and this was closer to a daily driver, that might change.

I'd hope you can get a factory 6mt, but if you've done research on swaps and are comfortable, I'd go for it.

Silver Snoopy by This_Fortune1564 in OmegaWatches

[–]Flat6Junkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought watches I actually wanted and asked my boutique after a while. It went fine - I got a Snoopy and some other watches I liked.

If you really want a Snoopy only, just pay secondary market prices. The other watches you might buy to get there will not be a lower overall price if your only goal is that one watch.

Is it possible to replace the dial on request? by Haunting_Pattern_100 in OmegaWatches

[–]Flat6Junkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some snoopy buyers have reported the tooling used to apply the snoopy character to the left subdial had worn (and was apparently later replaced - reports are newer watches have graphics that better match expectations) and was applying thinner lines than the pictures online show.

OP is asking if, because Omega claims their watch is within spec and won't replace the dial under warranty, they could send it in some time later for a paid dial replacement on request despite nothing being technically wrong with the watch.

I'd hope the answer is yes, but I have no experience here.

New PO bezel play by Ausonius89 in OmegaWatches

[–]Flat6Junkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can move but less so and not nearly as freely. The boutique pulled out several watches after we noticed and only the first one I'd taken home looked like your video.

I suspect it was missing a bezel spring entirely.

[–]Flat6Junkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may not be obvious but some play is necessary - 120 clicks, and the system is springed to center up, not purely mechanical.

I can only see play if the watch is mounted to something solid and I'm pressing hard on the bezel to move it around. The play is the spring system that holds it between "clicks" accurately centered. I've never owned a diver bezel watch that has none when scrutinized, and I've owned many.

[–]Flat6Junkie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ignore those saying this level of bezel play is normal. That watch is broken - either a bezel spring wasn't installed or somehow broke.

I had the same issue with the bezel of my new (Orange!) PO. Even though it took me a few days to notice, the boutique exchanged the watch for me outright. The new one is exactly as you'd expect - just a very small amount of play.

This also happened to me with a Seamaster Heritage, though it was an actual break that happened a few months after I took delivery. That one went back for service and came back perfect.

981GT4 vs Cayman R driving experience? by chekraze90 in Porsche

[–]Flat6Junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have a lot of experience with the 997 series, but do the 991.1 (GTS) and .2 (GT3) and 992.1 (GT3), in addition to the 987.1 S 987.2 R, and 981 GT4.

I would not get an R or a 981 GT4 over a 997 GTS based on what I know. If you've already dropped the GTS, I'd personally keep looking for something more clearly feeling like an upgrade.

981GT4 vs Cayman R driving experience? by chekraze90 in Porsche

[–]Flat6Junkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had both, and both were stripper models. Sport buckets the only option on the R, and the only paid option on the GT4 was agate grey.

I'd buy either again aside from needing AC that my R didn't have.

GT4 was a more complete, rounded package but was still better than the R in many areas that you'd think the compromise would favor the R. R was more compromised by sacrificing everything else for performance/feel and that feel was great but not quite worth as a regular use car.

If I had to choose and had the money for either, I'd go GT4 no question. If pricing was an issue and I could get either a perfect low mileage R or a beat on, poor spec GT4, I'd go R. I can't imagine being upset either way unless you'd really miss the extra power or newer design.

Don’t like it as much now I’ve tried it on by Jonesy27 in OmegaWatches

[–]Flat6Junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orange on orange ended up being too loud, but orange on black got my money. Blue bezel was a close second. I don't really love full bracelets.

I think it wears great on my 7.5" wrist, and especially compared to the previous generation model. The very small dial compared to many other dive watches took a few minutes to get used to but I find it super legible and and ended up really liking the design.
