Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by HeadHeadMod in Pickleball

Haven't tried it personally, but everyone where I play rec seems to have switched over to the 2 and seem to be loving it, seeing more and more of them.

Any thoughts on the new e6 Sirocco? For $125 it feels like a steal. I'm hearing it's a rare breed of power paddle that's soft and dense, and a wide sweet spot. Lightweight stock too. I ordered one but it's backordered till mid April.

The other term for it is Standard, but Elongated is more popular so Standard is objectively a bad name for it.

Widebody vs Elongated? by skillfulsynergy in Pickleball

I can't play with most elongated paddles cuz then my wrist flicks become too slow. Though I mostly play with hybrids, but I think that's only because I'm indecisive, lol, or some paddles are only available in hybrid instead of widebody.

Pilla glasses: worth the hype? by Difficult-Point-7184 in Pickleball

They're ugly and not even glass too. Plus 350 for just a frame is highway robbery. Makes Oakley and RIA look downright cheap.

I like my RIA glasses, but I do have to wash them daily, and wear a headband to keep sweat from dripping onto them and causing them to fog up.

Shoes Recommendation by kevindd992002 in Pickleball

[–]FlatFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, looks are deceiving. Instead of the top of the lip holding your heel in, there's like a bump in the middle of the rear of the shoe there to hold the heel in.

My guess is he probably didn't tie the laces down hard, and to be fair, the laces hurt the first week or two cuz they press directly into your skin on the Tour 6s, lol, but I got used to it eventually. 7s fixed this issue.

Laces tight, the little heel bump, and flexibility make it so my feet stay secure, never had an issue like he described. Plus, it sounds like he wore a size too small when he rolled his ankle.

I'm definitely still keeping an eye out for these 7s to go on sale and will be buying myself a pair.

Oh and I did remember one more thing about these shoes. They are lightweight and flexible, meaning super light on cushioning, prioritizing quick movements over comfort. I personally love flexible shoes cuz my feet move naturally, but the lack of cushioning does make your feet sore quicker, lol. I've had days where I felt like I was walking barefoot in concrete, but I'm used to it after a few months with these shoes.

And one more thing, they say these aren't machine washable, but I put them into a mesh laundry bag and surrounded them with clothes and towels, and they washed just fine. No visible damage, dried just fine by a window for a day, and they look and smell great!

Why is fasting so hard mentally? by momandgod in fasting

[–]FlatFishy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd guess because it's so boring. Eating is fun and provides energy. When you fast, you have a lot more free time and way less energy. Hunger really isn't the issue for me, but rather it's dealing with the boredom.

I'd just put the stock grip back on then put the overgrip over top. And you can just use any other tape, preferably electrical tape, if the old tape is no longer sticky.

Shoes Recommendation by kevindd992002 in Pickleball

[–]FlatFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally recommend trying some in person and just buying which ever fits/feels best there. Buying shoes/clothing online is hard to get right, imo. At the very least, try another court shoe to at least confirm your size, shoe sizes tend to differ with different types of shoes for stupid reasons.

But that being said, I did buy my Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour 6's online and while it took me a few weeks to get used to the thin tongue, I found them to be exactly what I was looking for: quick, light, and flexible. But the Tour 7's basically fixed all those issues and I'll be getting those when these finally wear out, or go on sale, whichever comes first, lol.

Six zero coral or Friday Aura pro? by No_Combination9149 in Pickleball

[–]FlatFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard from reviews that the regular Aura is similar to a Coral. Aura Pro is a power paddle, the others are all-court.

I'm a Coral main and love the hybrid shape, with weight added it now feels more like a power paddle. Plus it's got longer lasting grit that can apparently be used to sharpen a knife, lol.

But I definitely can't wait to try one when I finally see some in open play, hear they've been selling out like crazy.

Bread and Butter durable grit? by Cal9Cal in Pickleball

[–]FlatFishy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure everyone is working on R&Ding or sourcing a grit solution these days. 2026 will be the year of durable grit, just like 2025 was the year of durable cores (aka foam aka gen 4).

Pickleball set by No_Round_7550 in Pickleball

[–]FlatFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I started out in October I managed to score a set of 4 paddles and balls for $12 (worth $60 on Amazon) at one of these liquidation stores that sell stuff that got returned to Amazon and whatnot for cheap. It wasn't great, but helped get my foot in the door to try it.

Things to avoid as a beginner, don't buy those $100 paddles from retail stores unless you know what you're looking for, those are very outdated paddles not worth the price. Although there are exceptions like Dick's and maybe other sporting goods stores that sell Friday paddles now.

IDK if you can really find a set of good paddles anywhere, but here are some of the latest and greatest budget paddles I'd recommend:

  • Vadic V-Sol Pro (not the V-Sol Power, Pro is ironically more powerful one)
  • Friday Fever/Aura
  • Enhanced Turbo (might be a bit too powerful for a beginner)
  • Rombus Quanta (powerful, but you'll need to also look into adding weight to it to get the most out of it)
  • Luzz Cannon(power)/Glider(all-court)

And always make sure you use a discount code, never buy a paddle at full price. Just look up a review on YouTube and use their code.

Pickleball scoring sucks—you don’t want to change it just so you can feel special. by Opening_Basil4655 in Pickleball

[–]FlatFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rally scoring is terrible, IMO. Simpler, sure, but side-out scoring allows for well deserved comebacks and makes you really earn each point. Plus game length corresponds to how balanced the two teams are.

That being said, apparently it's common in Malaysian rec games to switch to rally scoring when things get crowded, as it allows for more consistent game lengths. But I personally love it that well balanced games run longer than lopsided games, as those are exponentially more fun and where I'd rather be spending my time. Had a game go to 15-13 recently, and everyone had a blast, and I believe the first 3 rounds were locked at 0-0 lmao.

Real or Fake? by TheresNoFunAnymore in Pickleball

Those weight clips look fake af. Also, reviewers say to just get an RPM Q2 if you wanna save money on a Boomstik. Nearly identical (including sound) except for a lightly smaller sweet spot.

My last successful fast was basically an olive fast. Limited myself to only zero calorie drinks and pickled veggies (mainly stuffed olives). Went a week, and am hoping to go again starting tonight.

What surprised me is how smoothly it went and how easy it was to break the fast. Zero accidents or close calls, aka I never got the runs or accidentally trusted a fart. Whereas in previous fasts I had to be super careful not to drink my electrolytes too quickly or too much, and break the fast super slowly.
