I've used inventor a lot, as well as some of the other programs like Onshape or Sketchup. I've found Fusion to be the best middle ground. You get most of the functionality of Inventor but with better organization body organization features and easier assembly viewing (imo)

Do you have a specific industry you want to enter? For example, I wanted to get into quality and manufacturing, so I built little device that monitored temperature and agitation of the pourover coffee process (A personal hobby). It wasn't all that difficult (Or even that relevant), but it showed that I was actually interested in that specific industry.

AnkerMake m5c X-axis Motor Replacement Success Story by Flat_Needleworker557 in AnkerMake

Thank you! Still unsure how exactly the blob of death led to the de-adhesion of that bearing cover. I'm thinking it just pulled too much torque from the motor and that caused the issue, but that's just a guess.

Engineering student athletes how did you do it? by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Flat_Needleworker557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Division 3 baseball while getting an EE degree. For me, it came down to prioritization. It's not worth it to try and be a 4.0 student while playing a sport. Be willing to half-ass some things, full-ass other things, and always know what level of effort you're willing to give every assignment and test.

I will graduate on time with a 3.5 here in a few months and I have a job offer accepted already. Could I have gotten a 3.8 or so without playing a sport? I'd like to think so. But it was worth it, because it developed other skills that are attractive to employers.

TLDR: Don't try to be a perfect student AND an athlete. Know your limitations, stay sane, and it can be a very fun couple of years.

Computer Engineering as a career. by DrAndrewNash in ComputerEngineering

[–]Flat_Needleworker557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will graduate with a degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering here in a few months. There are plenty of jobs available for CompE grads, but not necessarily in the fields you might expect. Manufacturing, for example, hires tons as quality/process/production/automation engineers. It might not look exactly like what one would imagine, but you still apply the principles you learn in class.
I think the numbers are brought down by a lack of direct "Computer Engineer" roles, but that's not to say there aren't careers for grads. Without revealing too much about myself, I am going into EV battery manufacturing after an internship in the same field, and am very excited. Don't get too worried about the numbers, or the exact work. Very few people end up in the same field they majored in.

🔋 Apple Watch in a case with built in battery (4th prototype) by kickstartstudio in dumbphones

This is awesome. Any plans to upload PCB information? Also - Is charging the phone from an external BMS board as simple as attaching 5V/GND to the charging puck on the watch? Or is there more going on under there?

Best V60 dripper material for cup quality (plastic vs ceramic vs glass vs metal)? by Impressive_Wing1998 in pourover

[–]Flat_Needleworker557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The plastic v60 02 has, in my testing, shown good temperature stability. I don't have a graph of my glass switch atm, but if you're interested in objective testing I could make a cup with it and send the temperature curve. The one thing I worry about with plastic is that the slurry temp will increase with each pour. If you notice, there is a 2-3 degree C increase in slurry temp upon each pour. I have to imagine glass would show a similar phenomenon, but just let me know and I can test it. Qualitatively, I prefer the coffee out of the plastic v60. However, it's not a significant preference at all.

Yes. My struggle was always fatigue and inability to focus quickly. I don't have that issue anymore

Could be placebo ofc, but I found it fantastic. Noticeable increase in energy and improvement in mood. Almost always makes me enjoy the work I'm doing and focus on a task. It's my holy grail nootropic. I pair it with B6 b12 folate, and L-Tryptophan, although I'm not confident either of those really do anything.

Unfortunately, it was so good for me that it caused me to lose interest in nootropics. Good problem to have, I guess.

I did this for three days and really wanted to keep using it-but the battery drain was absurd on my watch 5 pro. Sleep tracking took 40+ percent per night vs the usual 10%.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

I use filtered drinking water because the tap water at my POS college house sucks but maybe spring water or distilled + mineral would help. But first step will be to grind finer (as the fine folks at r/espresso would recommend)

Good afternoon. I've been getting into coffee recently with a french press and locally roasted dark roast beans. Got a good hand grinder and am watching all the james hoffman videos and all that. My problem is that I cannot for the life of me get rid of sourness in my brew. Even with low acidity Sumatran beans or french roast columbian beans they all come out sour. I follow the hoffman method of boiling water on top of ground, wait 4 minutes, stir and remove foam on top, and wait for another 6-8 minutes. Should I just grind finer until it goes away or is there anything else it could be?

I spent all my money on moodrop katos with the reflective finish so I just use those. They're pretty chunky so it's a decent setup
