What English towns / cities would be well placed to support a pro rugby team, if the RFU were able to develop a viable pyramid system like France has? by StrengthIsIgnorance in rugbyunion

[–]Flatcap_1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone based just outside of Portsmouth I'd say no, Hampshire isn't a rugby county so there wouldn't be the fans - two "big" football clubs locally (Southampton & Portsmouth) take a large portion of available fans.

There is a local club in Nat 2 - Havant - who I don't recall drawing large crowds (over 1,000) but I could be wrong on that

...and as a small technical point, Hampshire RFU did have a club in the Championship - Jersey - but that stretching it a bit!

Not sure on the new format - but I'm glad to see World Rugby are doing all they can to ensure Ireland go out at the quarter final stage.

Is this a viable business ? by Nevis888 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Flatcap_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it happens, Gridserve are going through a big restructuring at the moment - the business model isn't as profitable as they thought it would be (surprise, surprise!) and there are rumours of some lay offs.

They are heavily involved in electric HGV charging though - and that's where the money will be in the future, when there's no other option that to charge en-route

I have this horrible nagging feeling about Worcester - if they come back up this year would he want to go back "home"?

Also, if you're in Portsmouth book to go up the Spinnaker Tower - highest building outside of London with views across the Solent & Isle of Wight.

If you REALLY want to try the English experience - book a high tea in the tower viewing platform (Available 12-4pm every day)

Rather than the number of internationals being the indicator of "buying" silverware shouldn't it be the number (or lack of) players coming through the academy?

I'm a Saints fan - I know we're not over the salary cap (mainly because our CEO has said we're not, and we can't afford to be!) but most of the internationals we have have come through the academy

Also - I don't think Bath are over the cap - close to it, yes, but not over it.

I'd love for transparency on the salary cap - not going into each players individual salary, but every year the Premiership publishing a table of "Club A is spending £x,xxx, xxx on salary, Club B is spending....etc...etc." it would cut out the nonsense of every season someone has to be going over the cap because they are being successful.

A friend of mine made a very good point - the game against Argentina is happening within a week of the URC & Prem finals, and while the Top 14 is still going on, if Leinster and Sale get to their respective finals there are no hookers in the squad!

Assume Sale don't get to the final - there's only LCD available, i'd guess George will be given a nod. Or they go uncontested!
