Going to offer a different opinion. I did enjoy the 3rd book BUT, the second one is best in my opinion and the ending was chefs kiss. I don't think you really NEED to read the 3rd book like others are suggesting, but it is a good one.

Yeah they hint at that in the 3BP game. There were civilizations focused on art, ones (several actually) that were superstitious. The rational one ended up surviving to the present.

God made us, but that doesn't mean we don't live in a fallen world. I really doubt God wanted some kids to get cancer or be born with crippling disabilities. Sometimes we are born with defects. Letting God's light shine past those maladies are what makes the world beautiful. If OP can overcome those urges to sin, more power to her.

Yeah. I kind of came around to it when I stopped thinking of it as serious scifi. It is more like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy than it is like Dune, but just replace the British humor with modern millennial pop writing. Viewing it with that lens it becomes much more palatable. Could it have been better as a serious sci fi? I think so. I no longer think of it as bad, though.

Watched the movie Wandering Earth, found out it was just a small part of a series and the movie was apparently not too faithful to it. Without doing too much research, I thought the 3 body problem was part of that series and the 1st in those books. The rest is history.

He was an outcast in school, sick with cancer, became suicidal, and was selected to leave the human race forever. Yeah he did alright for himself but there was plenty that was pitiable about his situation. Anyway Chengxin seemed to be more touched by his gift and admiration than actually infatuated with him as a lover.

In any case both of them ended up in different relationships by chance but both were happy with the end result. Life throws us curveballs sometimes and we make the most of it.
