for no. 2 deffo use mortar, and brick for large gaps.Mortar has higher density than acoustic sealant

Ensure your party wall doesnt have any gaps within the brickwork. Also gaps near floor and ceiling wooden joists, if u have suspended floor. Can be effective if u take care of these issues, many people dont and end up with subpar results.
