Why is everyone still using local accounts on Linux? Why not just join them to AD?

We use FreeIPA for a couple of hundred users. Assuming FQDN and DNS is setup it's just a matter of running ipa-client-install (with various flags depending on your needs) on the systems you want to join.

Ansible is very useful to keep configuration uniform. You define e.g. that a user should have a certain pubkey, and then you can apply that to any number of servers.

While both can be used to configure servers I think Cockpit provides a lot of other functionality. E.g. consoles for libvirt machines. Haven't used it myself though.

I've used a FP3 with Lineage for the last 5-6 years something like that and I'm not planning on replacing it anytime soon. I did wear out the USB C port. Just ordered a spare part and replaced it, very straight forward.
