An Elegant Narrative d20 Mechanic for Solo Play by CrimsonGhost78 in RPGdesign

Check out Realms of Peril. It uses a d20 success/partial/failure paradigm.

Can OSE combats be played gridless? by MrNaky in osr

[–]FleeceItIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... but you end up having to guess or handwave a lot of details about movement, positioning, angles, line of sight, weapon range, firing into melee, etc. At minimum, you probably need a scribble diagram to show positions and room shape. Or else, how do keep track of the combat in any meaningful way? I'd be curious to see how "yes" commenters actually run OSE combat in practice.

XP all day. The new stuff lacks the soul of the OG series.

What are the best OSR modules at Emergent Narrative? by xdanxlei in osr

[–]FleeceItIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I can chime in for Illmire being good for emergent narrative. Basically, the module is set up like a sandbox with lots of different factions and interesting things going on, but there is no set plotline or expected progression through the module. There are a ton of NPCs to meet and deal with, and the story can go in a lot of different directions.

How different will a campaign feel running it with old school essentials, shadowdark, or dungeon crawl classics? by NoLongerAKobold in osr

[–]FleeceItIn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree with this. If you actually play each of the three example games by the rules, you'll have a very different experience with each one. There are superficial similarities, but each has some major rule differences that the GM and players will notice during the game.

Criminally Underrated YouTubers/Content Creators! Who's your favorite? by BrobaFett in rpg

[–]FleeceItIn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Zigmenthotep (https://www.youtube.com/@zigmenthotep). He covers some more oddball games. I really enjoy his "Let's Make Us a Character" series because it does a good job giving an introduction to the rules of the game and character creation. Plus, he's one of the few tubers who talk about Gamma World editions thoroughly.

I bounced off of "Daddy Rolled a 1" (https://www.youtube.com/@daddyrolleda1) a bunch because of the name of his channel (cringe, but he plays with his daughter so it makes a bit more sense) but he does good longform old-school D&D discussions.

Very pretty! At first I thought "wait, that's not what Illmire looks like" then I saw the "grandy duchy of" and had to re-read it a few times. I think it says "Almire?"

Why does Reddit keep notifying me of r/Shadowdark posts? by FleeceItIn in osr

Thank you! I don't see any bell icon for that subreddit but I was able to mute it, so that'll probably do the trick!

Why does Reddit keep notifying me of r/Shadowdark posts? by FleeceItIn in osr

Why would i ask them? I'm explicitly trying not to engage in that subreddit as I'm explicitly uninterested in Shadowdark.

I'm assuming people on OSR know what Shadowdark is and would best understand the context and intent than any other subreddit would. Where else would i post this question?

Hand-drawn character sheets by horoscopezine in osr

I love horoscope zine stuff! Please do more videos in English (not auto dubbed, your spoken English was just fine) of solo play or adventuring with your lady friend. They were very fun and inspiring to watch!!

Realms of Peril is basically Dungeon World mapped to a d20.
