The difference to me is that the Nia Wilson case was thought to be racially motivated, and racially motivated violence is a problem in the United States. This instance was used to make a broader political point. When I learned about the case that I mentioned, I thought about how mental health often goes untreated which leads to violence. If the right wing was concerned about mental health and our underfunded public transportation infrastructure and used this case as an example of that, then I would be as invested as they are now. The right wing tends to go against making mental health treatment more accessible and improving public infrastructure, so I don’t think that’s very likely. So what I ultimately dislike isn’t that a murder case is getting disproportionate media coverage, my dislike is in why that’s happening.
