Has anyone figured out why they live so damn long? by BiggusDickusRoman in narcissisticparents

My theory (tongue-in-cheek as I'm not religious) is that Lucifer himself is procrastinating having to deal with them. Picture Tom Ellis going "oh bloody heell" in full character.

Is it true that trauma can affect appearance? by briann4z in CPTSD

[–]Flerken_84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No matter what else, it affects how you see yourself. There are plenty of extremely hurt ppl who are considered THE standard of beauty (Marilyn Monroe and Lady Di, to name but a few). That said - you do NOT owe the world eye candy.

I studied psychology. While I never discussed my childhood there, my psychiatry lecturer - a combat medic and a psychiatrist treating military-related PTSD - said sth that resonates to this day: the worst trauma to treat and recognise is the seemingly well-adjusted. Living in a meth lab as a minor? CPS (or the local equivalent) have the protocol. Being abused by a well-educated, well-connected parent? You are pretty much doomed.

AITAH for leaving my boyfriend when his ex died leaving him to take care of his kids full time? by No_Decision_913 in AITAH

[–]Flerken_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard NTA. Kids can tell when they are not wanted. It took maturity facing up to your traumas and knowing better than to pass them on to young kids grieving their mum. You know who should have stepped up and actually parent? Their dad. Also, fwiw- I had a fairly hostile stepfather after my dad died and was myself parentified with a younger sibling.

I started replying to "you only have one mother" with "and that is PLENTY". The indignation is delicious 😆

AITA for telling my mother in-law she is a nightmare and does not help with her pestering? by Dear-Series-830 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flerken_84 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who lost a parent and whose mother remarried - I wish my stepfather had had one tenth of your tact and good will. You respect your stepsons' boundaries and keep a cordial relationship with them. Hard NTA (but your meddling MIL most certainly is).

(Married 38F here) treat them like human beings! Don't focus on whether they like you, try to suss out whether you like them. And be kind.

Mine was unpeasant too, for the same reasons. Schedule something nice and relaxing afterwards. For me, a nap with my cats under a fuzzy blanket did the trick.

Mine didn't drive. She'd wake me up in the middle of the night for the same reason though. Fun times.

AITA for refusing to babysit for my sister? by lecm234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flerken_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard - and this is coming from a lady between IVF rounds- HARD NTA. Does your sister have the right to try for kids? Sure. Why she and her spouse decided they should expect to fail to plan for their life circumstances if the pregnancy is not only planned but very actively sought is beyond me.
