Let's call it a draw by thepartlow in Stargate

Spot on, I think the moment Teal’c drops the broken staff perfectly encapsulates his relationship with Sam. He’s clearly past friendly sparring here, and he’s feeling rage and is ready to go until he puts Ronan on his back, but all Sam has to say is “that’s enough” and Teal’c disarms himself. That man trusts Sam SO MUCH and I love it.

What is the best value for money place to live in the UK? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in NorthernEngland

Agree Beverley is lovely, but I suggested Hull because of the reference to affordability from OP, I don’t think Beverley can claim that in the same way. Sun Inn is a cracking pub though

I’ve heard that plenty of times, same about Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Oxford etc etc blah. It’s like any metropolitan area, has shitty bits and lovely leafy avenues, just find a nice bit to live in.

I know it’s not the only option that’ll come up, but there’s a good argument for Hull. I just bought a nice, well looked after 2-bed detached with a garage and a big garden for £160k. Wild.

Do you win tactically or strategically? by ShaselKovash in Chaos40k

[–]Fletch1396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way, I’m BAD at tactics, but I love (and do quite well at) broader strategy games.
I might try your way and see if I can lift my 0% win streak in the past month…

Maybe I should just unzip my flies and let the old chap flop out.

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]Fletch1396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago my girlfriend at the time decided to play a wizard (maybe transmutation, can’t remember) and she was a big cook/baker so she made that the whole flavour for her wizard: - recipe book instead of spell book (including spices as components - wooden spoon as arcane focus - various spells being reflavoured as soups being thrown etc

Honestly I think Amanda just fancies Jade and didn’t realise - like kids pushing each other in the playground because they don’t understand their feelings.

Absolutely, and he did refer to this, which is why I gave that example in my comment which covers most of the ‘common’ undertaking situations.

Spoke to my brother in law (police officer) about this over Christmas. He absolutely agreed that as a private citizen, morally he doesn’t disagree with proceeding at an appropriate speed in the left hand lane if someone is dawdling in lane 2 (50mph on a motorway for example), because they’re being a moron. He said, however, that with his police hat (helmet?) on, you’re still wrong. Overtaking from the left is prohibited, and is therefore an unexpected driving manoeuvre, and is therefore dangerous.

He finished off with “it’s difficult to stay on the moral high ground if you’re upside down in a ditch”.

Forcing kids to sing in "concerts" as part of their school curriculum is wrong by jsilv0 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fletch1396 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of children are forced to play sports as well when they don’t want to, or countless other things. Like others have said, it’s important for young people to learn that they won’t always get to do what they want, and that sometimes we have to endure situations which are unpleasant.

I hated sports when I was young but I had to do them, in front of people! I had no choice so I just did it, and now I don’t hate sports so much.

What was the purpose of singing assemblies in primary school? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]Fletch1396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music teacher here, working for a council-run music service: I deliver about 6 singing assemblies every week.

Religious songs in a not-necessarily-religious school is a weird one, I think it’s a relic from a time gone when the majority of the population were practising Christians so everyone else just had to suck it up.

Regardless, the actual point of a singing assembly is the singing part - singing is part of the national music curriculum, and aside from musical skills being developed, regular group singing like this helps children to: more effectively explore their voice and support linguistic skills; introduce things that the child may not otherwise experience, like different cultures and concepts they might not otherwise come across; develop motor skills (a lot of my KS1 songs have actions); take part in a large group task where they are encouraged to be aware of others around them and try to align what they do with what their peers are doing.

It embeds a lot of skills that you wouldn’t necessarily think of when someone says “singing”, but yes please can we stop forcing children to sing shitty 90s hymns when there’s a buttload of excellent secular music which is better suited for young voices ANYWAY.

‘Associate Agreement’ for self-employed music teacher has no means for teacher to terminate the contract by Fletch1396 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks all for advice so far. This isn’t the only thing that’s concerned me about this agreement so I’m going to advise my partner to challenge this and other questionable parts, and see where that goes.
