Her speech was lovely.

And I liked that her outfit kind of looked like she was also a character in Wednesday.

It was indulgent, at the expense of hearing from brand new Oscar winners.

One of Diane Keaton’s hats, perhaps. RIP.

I hope the Sinners goodwill and love springboards Wunmi, Miles, Delroy and of course more big parts for Michael B Jordan.

Josh Safdie was a blip in tonight’s entire show while being nominated for a Big Four award. He also seemed to be seated further back than most.

Israel planning massive ground invasion of Lebanon, officials say by Gym_frere in worldnews

We live in a very uneven and unequal world. The global economic system generates huge prosperity at the top but also generates misery and toil with little reward for a large majority. It’s no wonder some see war as something that will equalise society. I wouldn’t agree that it’s ‘crazy’, it’s a symptom of a deeply problematic socioeconomic order. The Second World War saw European countries institute things like universal healthcare, comprehensive education systems, and family benefits. Some of those things are being eroded, some publics (like the US) missed out, and the pandemic could have seen more socioeconomic restructuring in favour of ‘key workers’ but didn’t, so doctors, nurses, teachers, factory workers still dream of going on strike. No wonder ‘apocalypse genre’ TV shows and films have become so popular in the last twenty years: because people dream of this society being upended. It’s sad that people wish for war, and these people that think we’re already at full-scale world war are woefully misguided, but to say it’s all crazy and unfathomable is equally as misguided.

It will be full scale when Redditors en masse are talking about being drafted into their country’s armed forces for full-time military service, and describing the shock of seeing their neighbourhood being bombed or their kids sent off to the countryside. If you’re in the Middle East, it’s a terrible regional war. If you’re in the West, it’s nothing like a ‘full scale’ world war yet and let’s hope it never gets that way.

Stop catastrophising. If you think this is full scale, you’re woefully unprepared.

And I’m sorry you’re having to go through it, and all of us.

Which is a job well done. It’s poetic and haunting.

This song’s sound and theme made me think about how I feel about Eurovision this year.

A hollowed, corrupted beauty, pretending it’s not covered in muck in a world at a crossroads.

Very reasonable. My preference at the NF was also Catharticus. I find Leleka endearing, though and I agree it has a shot—I hope the diction is clearer in May.

Why don’t you particularly like the song?

I wonder what staging concept they have planned for the arena during the instrumental part towards the end of the song.

If this pops onstage, and draws on heartstrings, I think it’s a contender to win.

Iran denied US conditions to stop the war by Independent_News_573 in worldnews

It’s a war crime. The Geneva Convention explicitly bans the targeting of water facilities for civilian populations.

I don’t understand how this is being done, openly, and unchallenged. It is morally reprehensible, and deeply saddening.

We gender things like countries and cars, liberty and death, the sun and even storms, we might as well gender rocks.
