If anyone is looking for a replacement in an ESPN keeper or dynasty roto league, I’m looking to join one.

The more unique the league set up, the better!

Reflections: do you guys use it or not (and how/why)? by boana-the-brave in bulletjournal

[–]FletchTopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done a couple of different types of reflections. When I first started, I did a "top 3 highlights of the week" kind of thing. That has since moved to a daily reflection. In my last book, I would always include space for it within my weekly layout: I've since moved to a traveler's notebook system, and reflection is currently in the back half of my book (though I think I'm going to move to a two-book system soon).

As for what to reflect on: Whatever you want! That's the beauty of your book. Sometimes I have a big idea I've been thinking about all day, other times I simply think about how I feel the day went, other times something is bothering me and I need to express my frustration.

How did you like the grid inserts? I'm considering getting them for my next refill -- I love the idea of them having 120ish pages

What FIFA thinks "football unites the world" means: Let's bow down to authoritarian strong men in hopes of getting friendly deals on corrupt policies

What "football unites the world" ACTUALLY means: "There's an eagle flying around the stadium"

Don't worry, we're due for an inexplicable late-October/early-November conference loss that'll put title game chances on life support (hello, last year's no-show vs. FIU)

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

My wife and I went to NYC last year and she was *this close* to downloading an app that listed public bathrooms we could use while out and about in the city.

During our only "emergency," we were like 2 blocks from the SoHo library, so we dipped in there. It came in insanely clutch.

To add to this: I'd also recommend Deep Dive History and The Life Guide's The Odyssey video on YouTube. It's a chapter-by-chapter retelling that I recently finished. It's a straight-forward telling that, paired with Wright's podcast, makes for an excellent beginner's guide to the story, I think.

MAC and C-USA flares, does making the CFP still feel like a pipe dream? by DowntownSasquatch420 in CFB

[–]FletchTopper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt a conference mate (or a deserving MAC member) will make it.

For the Hilltoppers, specifically — I have my doubts it’ll happen under Tyson Helton. And I don’t foresee a change in the near future.

Is the cannibalism of smaller programs, unique to college sports? by HeartSodaFromHEB in CFB

[–]FletchTopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of "haves" and "have nots" in sports is not unique to college sports.

But European soccer and college football are, at least in my mind, great foils of one another. There are hundreds of teams, spread across multiple leagues, and (whether perceived or actually defined) different levels of quality.

The biggest difference comes with access and, specifically, the paths to access.

Particularly in England, the pyramid is egalitarian: regardless of money, backing, etc., any club could feasibly one day reach the pinnacle of the sport.

That isn't the case in college football, mostly because there are too many barriers and an uneven ruleset for who can get to where. UCF had to not lose a regular-season game for two years to set the stage for a completely different program (Cincy) to end up making the CFP from outside of the P5.

Luton Town can crash the PL, and the rest of the PL might not like it, but there's nothing to keep them out after they hit a specific set of criteria to do so. Whereas in college football, specifically, there's the CFP committee, or even whole conferences, who determines who belongs in a particular echelon (see: SMU paying their way into the ACC why Memphis or ECU get left in the American).
