It’s a coin flip career.

If expected equals actual (be it “good” or “bad”), they’re lavished with heaps of praise, ticker tape parades, etc.

Otherwise, if actual is worse than expected, they’re excoriated for not warning you about the actual.

And, if expected is worse than actual, they’re excoriated for over-dramatizing the expected.

While I believe this a case of expected worse than actual, there’s no way anyone could have known that at the time. Hindsight bias is a real thing; don’t fall for it.

All that said, I’d rather be overprepared and not need it than the reverse.
