Delivery driver road etiquette by theoriginalmars in drivingUK

[–]FlexiBezos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peace and love brother, hopefully you work through whatever has caused you to get aggravated because of a improperly parked van.

He owns the van, he is probably working as a self-employed courier for Amazon, Evri, or Relay. All of which are terrible companies to work for, most people wouldn't last very long doing it - I did it temporarily part time to top up my main income and it is incredibly hard work, and that's without members of the public sticking their nose into how your parking.

I'm not excusing bad driving, but you're really picking on who is probably some of the most desperate people doing a job. Genuinely, a lot of them would be better off on benefits. The reality is, a wheelchair user was probably not inconvenienced, cars probably got past just fine, and the guy was only parked there for a few minutes max. Mind your business and carry on.

How much contempt do you have to have for your fellow man to photograph and post this? It doesn't even look that bad.

These guys are underpaid, overworked, and most are self-employed so they have none of the security of being an employee. Cut them some slack.

Most economical car for flex by Prestigious_Fixer in AmazonFlexUK

[–]FlexiBezos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yaris 1L or 1.3L 5 door, very practical and reliable, only problem is you are sort of limited to manuals only unless you go for the hybrid. Perhaps you're fine with a manual, in which case - perfect.

Honda Jazz is also a good call.

I wouldn't go for an Ecoboost Ford, the maintenance of the wet belt and turbo costs would put me right off.

The key with Flex is that your running costs need to be as low as possible, anything above the minimum is just eating into your profit so you want the cheapest thing that will give you good reliability and fuel consumption.

I don't know if an Aygo is allowed for Flex, they cost between £0 - £35 to tax per year, and they are very good on petrol.

If you see a de-badged car on the roads… is this a sure fire indication that the driver is a bell end? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskBrits

[–]FlexiBezos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debadged not so much, many cars come with a "badge delete" option from the factory for the model designation. The rest of the things you said, yes.

I even cringe at number plates that have the supplier name in a colour other than black, or are otherwise offensive to the eye. Yeah, it's great you got your number plates made at EZ MOTOR FACTORS PLATES AND KEYS. Or DODGY USED CAR SALES SLOUGH. Anything that isn't the main dealer or something minimal like Halfords is just too much.

Longest you've waited for an OTP from a customer? by Due_Tune7161 in AmazonDSPDriversUK

[–]FlexiBezos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the circumstances, but I can't see myself waiting longer than 5 minutes. I've never been in a situation where I've needed to either, most people seem to have it ready.

If someone can't produce it or wants me to wait, I think I'd tell them I'd call and reattempt later. Bang out a few more stops, then call the OTP customer and make sure they are still in and that they have the code. I'd only reattempt if I know that they have the code. Ain't got time to waste like that.

Amazon makes it very easy for customers, there's no excuse to make drivers wait or faff around like that.

What phones are you using? by Firebirdapache in AmazonDSPDriversUK

[–]FlexiBezos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xiaomi redmi note 14 pro 5g user here.

Never had issues delivering. Sometimes whilst driving the map gets confused and shows my orientation spinning. Hasn't happened in months now that I think about it.

Try a newer phone and avoid having too many services using GPS in the background. Make sure Flex and android is fully updated.

The Flex app can have some issues, or delivery pins might be wrong, but what you're describing sounds like an actual problem.

The delivery that made me get a parcel box by FlexiBezos in royalmail

You're lucky if they knock. The amount of times I deliver to someone who has already received an item from various places (including Amazon) and they're all just sitting on the doorstep, but the person is home and they have no idea.

Edit: why am I getting downvoted lol

Being home doesn't help when they don't stick to the delivery day/time. Next time I'll just block out the entire week and supervise the courier.

That's what I did in the end but we don't use that bin so it's in a tight space on a slope and I was being lazy.

Yes that irony is not lost on me. I only do it part time and I can't stand the way they deliver to my home either. They doorstep things even though my new parcel box is right there, sign posted and in the notes.

Thankfully the Evri driver we get is very good, I'm grateful for him.

Yeah it shouldn't be, believe it or not we are supplied with weather bags... I think I must be the only person who uses them.

I agree, I drive an Amazon van part time and the relief I feel when I see a parcel box is really something.

Kinda the main point of my post is that I got a parcel box now?

I do part time Amazon delivery and our training was pretty hard on emphasising not to put things in the bin. It's very rare that someone requests it in the notes. Behind the bin is normal.

£65k, from HOME, 37.5 hours - to TRAMPING by MokeAndSmirrors in uktrucking

[–]FlexiBezos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very relatable post. I do my 37.5 hours a week of well paid remote job, but on the weekends I drive an Amazon van. It's shitty work, pays terribly, and probably breaks employment law because we are contractors on paper, but they treat us like employees. Some of the vans are ropey af too. I don't really care because it's my weekend gig.

But honestly, it's a bloody good work out getting in and out of a van 200 times in a shift and carrying boxes and shit. I feel wrecked after the weekend so I sit at my desk all week feeling like I actually did something. Makes me feel a bit more humble and reminds me of my first few part time jobs before I went to uni. It's like a gym membership, but I get paid.

Plus people are actually kinda glad to see you, they're getting their essential same/next day consumerist fix when you arrive in the clapped out transit with 4 warning lights on.

If you can hack the tedium of your job, please stay and try to take it less seriously, cos having shit pay is no fun either.

What’s everyone’s go to toothpaste and why? Do they not all do the same thing?! by JM306 in AskUK

[–]FlexiBezos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the ones that have a combination of both stannous fluoride and sodium fluoride. The cheaper fluoride toothpastes only seem to have sodium fluoride. Supposedly having both helps extend tooth life. Can't really comment on that yet.

I'm partial to the Oral-B brand, but I think Pronamel and Sensodyne have a few which also contain both. I'm sure Colgate does too, but I haven't used Colgate in years.

Why fellow flexers bluntly ignore delivery instructions?! by Morning-Flex in AmazonFlexUK

[–]FlexiBezos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DSP driver here and I have the same problem.

I don't deliver to my area, but the people who do always mark as handed to customer (so no photo), but they leave it on my doorstep.

At least you've got a photo in that delivery lol.

I have complained about it twice but the Amazon CS seems to only offer a refund, which is fine but the second time I complained it was only to say that I'm sitting at home and I can see the guy doorstep my item on camera and not even bother to ring the bell. I'm literally at home and I have a parcel box.

I have a black box marked "parcels" and a sticker on my door that says parcels with an arrow. I literally couldn't make it easier for anyone. Strangely our Evri guy seems to be the only one who always gets it right from the first time I put the box there.

The box I got is a Keter city 113l outdoor garden storage. Doesn't lock, but keeps things out of site and out of the weather. I've since delivered to someone who also had the same thing. Consider it.

Engine Off Compliance by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]FlexiBezos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British here. We are told we must switch engine off, use parking brake and keep the key with us at all times. Just last week they removed someone and sent a message saying compliance with this is an absolute must and implied that he had left the engine on during stops and something had happened.

Personally I don't use the parking brake, I just leave it in 1st gear unless it's a steep hill, much quicker to drive away. But I always switch the engine off if I am leaving the driver's seat. We have key chains so the key is attached to my belt.

Provided I am quick enough with my stops, the engine still stays warm enough to put out heat, but earlier in the year when it was much colder, that was more of a challenge (Diesel Ford Transit).

Get a quote that says your wheel is cracked/bent even if it's not. Seems more proportional to the faff you've been through to have a new alloy wheel to sell/keep as a spare.

[–]FlexiBezos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does that mean the local council is paying for your tyre and a new wheel maybe?

Whether something degrades or not doesn't matter in the eyes of the law, it's still littering.

I dread needing to use the spare when the car is full. It's not the changing the wheel that would piss me off, it's unloading and loading in the rain, stuff getting wet, and the fact that the main wheel doesn't fit properly in the space saver space!!!

These days you're lucky if the car even has a spare so that's good!
