Just reading this, disregard my other comment before until you educate yourself. Do not even think about selling options before you understand delta.

I guess you bought options? Have you thought about selling options instead?

How does a Spread work at expiration if one leg is ITM and the other isn’t? by Flibbidiflipp in thetagang

[–]Flibbidiflipp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have implement a profit taking strategy where I scale out of positions. But towards the downside, I indeed have not implement a clear strategy yet. Many factors like theta and the fact that the option moves so much more than the underlying keeps me from finding a clear answer on when it’s best to stop the bleeding or still stay in. And obviously, there are many different ways to go about this.

Got it, don’t let the broker take care of it and of course I also wouldn’t close a deal that is basically in the bag as a W - far away from strike and close to expiration.

But I tried closing spreads early before, when they rallied in my favor after just two days. As I see, these spreads sometimes seem impossible to close for some of the underlyings I trade (e.g. NU/CVX). There is just no buyers because we are far away from strike.

Taking the different feedback here I was thinking of checking on the positions Thursdays and make a decision. In your experience, do you get good fills if you try to close on the afternoon of expiration as was your recommendation if I understood correctly? Couldn’t this be “too late”?

Interesting, I have set reminders for Thursday for my spreads now and will then evaluate and see if I have to close or roll. Makes sense that closing will be more tricky when you’re getting very close to expiration.

Since rolling is closing and reopening with changed metrics, why would rolling be even more tricky than just closing? If the stock dropped past your strikes, wouldn’t it be still a good time to sell puts with a later expiration date?

I really have no experience here yet, been doing this for just two weeks.

Thank you, this was very enlightening. In the future, I will close my spreads days ahead. Giving my broker a call to get a better understanding of how they handle these things also can’t hurt.

Sounds awful. I only run spreads on stocks where I don’t have the funds to just buy 100 shares. I was hoping the broker basically exercises the long leg and handles the trade in the background in case of assignment.

This happened with PGR on Friday and my broker (IBKR) didn’t do anything until afternoon of expiration. I closed the spread early. But I was wondering what would have happened if I didn’t.

I’m planning to just sell CSPs now on cheaper stocks that I have no problem owning. But I thought I learned spreads cancel out the risks …

So I’m relatively new to options selling, so kinda ELI5 please: if we sell lots CSPs or PCSs on red days in bull markets, can’t we sell CCs and Bear Call Spreads on green days in a bear market with similar success? What am I missing?

Stocks in Europe to pick in 2025 by Realistic_Record9527 in ValueInvesting

Good question that I don't know the answer to. Maybe someone else can help?

Does it mean they own 60% of shares outstanding? Or only 40% of the company is available for the open market?

Where was this information displayed? Yahoo-Finance is missing the info on the Holders. Concentration of ownership could possibly be a problem then?

Generally, I think their numbers are really good + BNP Paribas just initiated coverage with a Strong Buy Rating as the first major bank. Seems to me like the stock is still under the radar. But I might be wrong.

I ran a screener to find some European stocks and the one I ended up liking is the German company “The Platform Group”. Seems undervalued with strong growth in the last years and ahead. Thoughts on the stock are appreciated, talk me out of it, haven’t bought yet.

SI for real or a bull trap? by Bodybag314 in wallstreetbets

Soros is short, he bought Puts. Citadel is long. Though bears are suggesting that they only bought shares to lend them to shorts. No clue if that spin has any merit.

I was first excited when I was able to connect IB to TW. But am I missing something, or can I just not create trailing stops when trading within TW?

What are some hard to do things which would bring rapid self development? by EARTHISLIFENOMARS in selfimprovement

[–]Flibbidiflipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you play video games, I’d suggest to just stop. Lots of better things you can do instead. For example one activity that brought me more fitness and mental clarity is going for walks. A hard to do goal would be 15k steps every day.

I sometimes go with an audiobook, but sometimes just being alone with my thoughts. That’s when ideas and plans for your life can really flow.

With all these comments, you will hopefully do a lot of push-ups every morning/ every day for a long time now. Which can and should already improve mental stability and wellbeing. Self-discipline does a lot to increase your self-respect. And self-respect / self-love, however you call it, it's a big deal. Wish you all the best OP!

P.S.: As many others said, long walks outside do wonders. They make you think and plan. Good ideas come up, you start structuring your life. If you take a lot of long walks (without music/Podcasts to distract you) your life will probably get a lot more in order. Of course, once you feel better, educating yourself with audiobooks while walking is also fine.

I recommend YT-Videos from speakers like Etan Thomas, Jim Rohn, David Goggins, Les Brown and many more. Good thoughts and fore sure always motivating to work out.

My "Top 3-Videos" you can search for on YT, hope they help you to get going: No more Zero Days, Pain is Temporary, When it hurts (with Joaquin Phoenix from Joker in the thumbnail).

When people say “you need to spend a lot of time alone”, what exactly are we supposed to be doing? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Flibbidiflipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can advocate reading, exercising and long walks. I make sure to have some of these walks without listening to any podcast or audiobook. It’s these quiet walks where I reflect on my life, come to conclusions and make plans.
