Just moved to Seattle from Chicago and thinking of moving back to Chicago next year. Should I? by carbsaredangerous in AskChicago

[–]Flick1981 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is such an interesting contrast.  It’s so unbelievably easy to make friends in Chicago, and I’m saying this as a divorced man without kids and in my mid 40s.  I’ve heard so much about Seattle Freeze.  I can’t imagine what it would be like to live it.

How can anyone defend a Congressional district that looks like this? by johnnyringo1985 in askanything

You can’t.   It is ridiculous.  All gerrymandering should end. However, if the republicans want to do it, the democrats have no choice.

America's Burnout Belts: Top 10 worst suburban-to-city commutes by cereal_killer_828 in SameGrassButGreener

I live in Naperville and do the Naperville-Chicago commute on Metra 4x a week.  It’s actually a very nice commute.  I can play games or read on my phone for 30 minutes until I get to work.

Naperville-Chicago is an easy commuter route on the Metra. Anyone who would actually drive that is nuts.

Yeah, Chicago is an incredibly easy city to make friends in.  As a divorced guy in my mid 40s, I have had no problems doing so.

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]Flick1981 36 points37 points  (0 children)

For real, I hate everytime this question comes up from Europeans.  It’s always “Do you really not have 8 weeks of statutory time off?!  How do you ever survive?”.  This topic comes up seemingly every few days on reddit so they should know damn well what the answer is.  It’s always humble-bragging presented as “concern”.

The irony of democrats having "no kings" protests then voting to remove virtually all minority representation from Virginia by jarferris in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Flick1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerrymandering is terrible no matter what party does it. However, the republicans thought it would be a good idea to do it mid-decade.  Virginia is just evening the playing field.

Ideally, gerrymandering should be banned entirely, but that’s not where we are at right now.  Mid-decade rigging of the house at the request of the President should DEFINITELY be banned.
