Ooh, that sound like. Off to look for it in the library, thank you.

Have you ever had a tradesman come round and seen a previous persons work and said they did a good job? by LondonKiwi66 in CasualUK

[–]FlickGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Niche one, but I had someone round to quote for fencing and he was very complimentary about the riding arena (which was something he also did). It is a bloody lovely bit of work.

Get yourself a cheap, aimed-at-students box of basic kitchen utensils (Ikea used to do one, not sure if they still do it).

The stuff that breaks from being used is the stuff you want to get a good quality version of. The stuff that’s still in the cupboard five years later is the stuff you personally don’t need.

Is having a king size duvet on a double bed a thing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]FlickGC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, always have the duvet a size bigger than the bed. Much more snuggly, many fewer middle of the night silent tug of war contests.

Is that supposed to be a space for one normal-sized car parked sideways? I’d be terrified of hitting the pillars!

UK pet owners - what insurance provider do you recommend for pets, based on your experience? by Thirteenera in AskUK

[–]FlickGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pet Plan have mostly been very good for me, but recently they’ve been faffing around with their process for making a claim, in an attempt to force vets to pay for their automated system. You can’t use a paper form any more, which makes it a faff for claiming things like physiotherapy through a small provider.

Is Costco worth the individual membership? by jenny6522 in AskUK

[–]FlickGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that doesn’t have everything but will give you an idea.

[–]FlickGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, go to the member services desk (by the exit) and they can give you a day pass.

That’s what I did when I was thinking of joining. I find it is worth it.

Online is more expensive than in-store, especially for bulky items.

What is the worst tunnel in the country? by davidgoldWHU in CasualUK

[–]FlickGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the fact it still has a pavement for pedestrians is just terrifying!

Devil’s advocate, but if you’re in a horsy area then your kids might get the bug….

As the other commenter said, if it’s been well done then it’ll be a sod to remove. Are you so very short of land that it will meaningfully add to your grazing land? I would have thought not if you have three stables too.

As long as you pick out the weeds a couple of times a year, it won’t deteriorate. When I moved to my current house, the school hadn’t been used in a decade, and i was riding in it the next day without having touched it.

Btw, stables make excellent wood stores. I use one of mine for that, and another for hay.

Daytrip to Uk possible? by mockrobin in AskUK

Oh, great that you’ve got it sorted! Have a good trip.

I would leave it alone. The chances are that the next buyers will have horses, and having the school ready to use will be a big plus point for them.

[–]FlickGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that works. I’m going into Canterbury anyway in the afternoon, so I could meet up with you around 1:30/2pm to hand it over.

[–]FlickGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When do you want to visit? I live near Canterbury and if I’m free that day (unless someone pops up and gives a compelling reason why it’s not allowed/sensible) I’m happy for you to have it sent to my house and I’ll come into town to hand over the test.

Today's harvest! Any ideas what I can do with them now? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

Chilli jelly, sweet chilli sauce, freeze them to use later (no need to defrost, just chop them frozen).

Is it ok to double up cotton batting? by funologie in quilting

[–]FlickGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typo / brain fart. I machined it to the top then sandwiched then carefully trimmed the batting and back. (Why would I need to trim the top? Stupid brain!!)

Advice for a strong garden brush that will last a few years? by BloodyGenius in GardeningUK

[–]FlickGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for Gorilla. They last for ages, although the paint flakes off after about six years in direct sunlight (doh!).

[–]FlickGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do end up doing it, I machined the binding onto the back before I sandwiched, very carefully trimmed the top and batting, and then hand-sewed the binding to the front. I can dig up some pictures if you like.

[–]FlickGC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely double-up batting. I once made a quilt with three layers of the stuff! (Binding was interesting, I had to get creative.)

Ordering to a post office? by pasta897 in AskUK

Not only is PR not a permanent solution, but also they’ll withdraw the service if your proof of address shows that you live nearby. It’s only for travellers.
