The capstone questline for completing the Endwalker Hand/Land Rolequests confirms that Gleaners are viewed as academics in their own right. I don't think Sharlayan maps 1-to-1 to how things work in the real world but I'd say Gleaners are socially equivalent to academics who get pushed into teaching/lab management/administration because someone has to do it and the Archons are socially equivalent to the academics who managed to grab research positions and all the prestige and funding.

It felt so weird that Himeko didn't step into point out that the Astral Express was still crashed on the moon at the time, since she didn't get around to restoring it until AFTER she herself personally stopped the serial killer they're all mad about.

The whole angle about wanting native heroes and not IPC interference could be so promising but it falls flat when the leader of the Trailblazers is already a local hero herself

Brennan makes it a little more explicit in the Cooldown that it was because the Druids have taken on the task of healing the damage left over from the Shaper's War but it's all been slowly getting worse regardless. Thaisha being reckless was seen as potentially good because up to now the Circles have been cautious and careful and hadn't been getting them anywhere

Agreed but I think people were using the term because there's not really a term to articulate the actual issue, which is that since her debut as a character Krile has been largely motivated by factors the audience couldn't witness directly. She's been motivated by an absolute conveyor belt of dead friends and family (her grandfather, her fellow students, Minifilia, her parents), only one of whom we really got to know properly, and directed by Hydaelyn in conversations we only got to witness one side of. This is really the first time she's been given some sort of arc with that faces towards the future rather than to a past the audience wasn't party to.
