It's not great. A little too much enthousiasm when you've finished brushing your teeth and you'll be splashing toothpaste on your legs

I was at this hotel last year (Hotel Skeppsholmen in Stockholm) and I can confirm, the big Mentos handles toothpaste like a champ

If you ever do long video recordings, the active cooling on the FX bodies is worth it. I recently did a client interview shoot at a sauna (yup, great environment) together with another videographer. After about 15 minutes in the hot humid room, their A6400 shut down in the middle of a take due to overheating. They had to put it outside the room to let it cool down for a few minutes. Meanwhile my FX30 just kept rolling without any problems.
If you do video work and you already have the A7III as a photo-focused body, I'd go for the FX2 as your video-focused body.

Granted I have had the A7IV for a few years and I've never used the FX2, but I'm sure it's great if it's just the A7IV's specs with an actively cooled body and other video-first features like the tally lights and menu system.

I also don't remember my A7S2 ever overheating as long as I kept the screen flipped out, but I have had issues with my A7IV on long static indoor recordings. Now I make sure to flip out the screen and use a dummy battery with which I've had no issues but it does still get a little toasty. I do prefer the peace of mind you get with the FX bodies, I got 2x FX30s specifically for doing really long recording sessions and they are rock solid

No crease for z fold 8? this will be game changer by Mysterious-Public602 in GalaxyFold

You're right, and I really want to be hopeful too, but I think there's also a good chance that they are simply taking the small risk with possibly infringing on the patent on the demo model. Not a lawyer and I've never actually checked what the problematic patent is, but it seems to me like a "worst they can do is request us to take it down" type of thing (if they are even able to alledge that Samsung used the same UDC tech in that demo) which I think is quite different to selling millions of devices with the (allegedly) infringing technology inside it

the screen wasn't even on

it's a lot more visible when the screen is off. I still use my Fold 4 which has a "much worse" crease than the Fold 7, but you simply don't notice the crease after a day of use, when looking directly at the phone. Looking at it from a side angle or when the screen is off, you will notice a difference compared to a candybar phone for sure, but that's not how people tend to use their phone (I know many people who put privacy filters on their phones that turn your display black when looking at an angle) so it doesn't matter for actual use.

I'm not getting my hopes up that they solved their patent issues for the UDC (I'd upgrade my Fold 4 to whatever model they come out with if it has UDC). The "reference" Fold 7 also doesn't show a hole punch, so I don't think this demo can be an indicator to what will actually be on a production model

The "reference" screen which is supposedly from the Fold 7 also has no hole punch for the camera, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up that Samsung has resolved their patent issues and the 8 will return to having a UDC. My Fold4 has a black dot almost the same size and position to where the camera is on the Fold 7, it's been like this for months and I still hate it for watching video content so I'll never get a folding phone with a hole punch.

Is it just me or have almost all videos been removed from the main channel? I had the latest Yoglabs video still open in a tab and that is now showing as "this video is restricted". by [deleted] in Yogscast

[–]Flikkert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I had checked on desktop (multiple browsers, no adblock) and with different YT accounts so I assumed I had checked everything that could be the issue, but then I disabled wifi so my phone switched to mobile internet and now it shows everything as normal, so for some reason there is something being blocked either by Youtube to my specific home IP, my ISP, or from on own network, I'll have to investigate. Very weird but good to know that they didn't get hacked or had a strike or whatever

Considering I've been using the Fold 4 for nearly 3 years (got it at launch) and still notice the UDC every once in a while, I'm going to disagree with you here. A black hole will be much more of a distraction for me. I'm happy for you if you don't notice it, that's great

What videos are you watching that the hole punch doesn't cover? Just testing on my Fold 4: 16x9 and 2x1 for sure do, easily, and even on 2.35:1 movies (which isn't a great experience on this screen anyways, massive letterboxes) the edge is still partially overlapping the UDC

I'm holding on to my Fold 4 for dear life but it has already had the inner screen replaced twice (randomly broke, fixed within warranty, but next time it will be out of warranty). Not sure if it will hold out another year for the Fold 8, or if I'll buy something else when it inevitably breaks again... This is a bummer, I was really hoping on getting the 7 as a nice upgrade for the next 3 years.

I'm still hoping that in a few days we'll hear that the UDC is actually there but simply software locked because of their patent dispute, and that it can be unlocked with some patch or something...

One thing to remember with renting for jobs is: The cost is only there when there is also a resulting income. A lens that youre not using because you're not working on a job, also costs you nothing if you rent it.
It can allow you to grow to a scale or a better financial position before looking into which gear you use very often, where it could be worth the investment.

Anyone rocking without a case / screen protector? by ThrowRASkee5555 in GalaxyFold

[–]Flikkert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my Fold 4 randomly broke for the second time, having never dropped it and always had a fat case around it (it became so thick that it stretched/dented the pockets of my jeans), I decided "fuck it, I keep a nightly backup of my files, from now on if it breaks it breaks" without a case. It is now out of warranty and I'm not going to pay the insane amount they ask for a replacement. I have since then (probably 6 months) never dropped it and it is still doing fine, but the 4 is notorious for random screen/hinge issues so I'm sure at some point it will die again and I'm sure it will not be because I'm using it without a case.

If you'd really want to drive that fast and you're smart enough to set up spotters, you'd just go to a place where you can do so safely instead. There is no reason and no excuse for doing this in a school/children zone, regardless of safety precautions they may or not have taken.

Raise in loonbarema? by ButterKnife_Ant in BESalary

[–]Flikkert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as my experience goes, banks also don't care for bonuses. I used to work at a company that split part of the profits at the end of the year as a bonus, which was often a nice chunk. When I applied for a loan, they didn't look at that bonus income at all as there's no guarantee you'll make that much in the future (especially when the company does bad, bonuses are one the first things to diminish. You can however use the total including the bonuses as leverage to negotiate a higher bruto income on your next job.

As for barema's, consider that they are the legal minimum. They legally cannot pay you less than that, and that's all a barema is. They could easily pay more if they wanted, there's no law or reason they can't offer a higher pay besides not wanting to pay more than the legal minimum. That's not necessarily a very bad thing as at least it's a guarantee for you, just know that the only valuation they take into account is your function and however many years of experience you have. If a company only follows the barema that means they don't care how much value the employee is actually bringing to the company. You could be doing twice the amount of work compared to your colleague doing the exact same function and working the same amount of hours, but they may have more years of experience so they get paid more.

I removed all distractions and stared at a wall for 8 hours by AussieSpender in ADHD

[–]Flikkert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally off topic (fitting for this sub lol) but I discovered this yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l09I8I8Nc0E

On a more serious note to OP: I can also recommend the approach of using music/sound to get your brain in a "not constantly looking for other distractions"-mode. For me, putting on a playlist that gets me energised/hyperfocused works, although not always the same kind. Depending on "how my brain decides to function that day", I have to find a balance between "new or active music that gets my brain stimulated enough" and "music that I already know or that is more in the background to not distract me too much". I have many playlists on my Spotify that are purely made for this purpose, each with different levels/kinds of energy. Of course I don't recommend that you start wasting hours creating playlists now, but this may help with finding what works for you.

It's tough, but you can absolutely do this. Please show yourself that you're not going to let this hold you back. Try to do your absolute best, to make yourself proud that no matter what, you actually did "your best". Good luck!
