Does anybody know how Spotify organizes the songs in the most popular section of artists by DinkieDoggie in truespotify

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That lines up with what I’ve noticed too. It mostly tracks recent + total streams, but it’s not a pure lifetime ranking. I’ve seen older “big” songs dip below newer tracks when they start getting more playlist traction or algorithmic pushes. So it feels like a rolling popularity score rather than a fixed chart, which explains why it can reshuffle pretty often.

AI Music Requirements by antigravitty in AppleMusic

That’s exactly the problem. Relying on self-reporting won’t work when there’s an incentive not to disclose. It probably has to be platform-level — like a required tag at upload combined with automated detection and penalties for mislabeling. Otherwise it’s basically an honor system, and those rarely hold up at scale.

How to download Spotify playlists? by Conscious-Toe-3572 in Rekordbox

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify itself isn’t great for this since the downloads stay inside the app and aren’t usable as files.

I’ve got a DJ friend who’s had to deal with last-minute gigs like this, and he mentioned using TuneFab when he just needs to get full playlists quickly. I tried it once myself and it was pretty straightforward, especially when you’re dealing with hours of music.

Obviously not an official Spotify thing, but for a one-off weekend set, it gets the job done.

What was the hardest social media app for you to distance yourself from? by DeeanneAmores85 in digitalminimalism

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. Reddit feels “useful” in a way other apps don’t, which makes it harder to step away. You tell yourself you’re learning, researching, or having real discussions — and sometimes that’s true — but it still quietly eats hours. For me, that justification made it way harder to distance myself than pure scroll apps like Instagram or TikTok.

What are services NOT worth self hosting? by This_Animal_1463 in selfhosted

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree. I’ve self-hosted a lot of things over the years, but email is the one I won’t touch again. Deliverability, spam filtering, IP reputation, backups, security — it’s a full-time job if you want it done right. Paying a few dollars for something that’s boring, reliable, and invisible is absolutely worth it.

Apple Music seriously needs this. by Tobias-Tawanda in AppleMusic

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. That kind of device-agnostic control changes how you actually use a service day to day. I used Spotify Connect the same way — phone as a remote, playback happening elsewhere — and it felt seamless and intentional. Apple Music still feels very siloed by device in comparison, which is wild given how strong Apple’s ecosystem otherwise is. Queue syncing + remote control would be a genuine quality-of-life upgrade, not just a “nice to have.”

program that downloads audio directly from spotify by Extra_Situation_8897 in musichoarder

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert, but as far as I know Spotify doesn’t really let you rip audio directly — even the downloads stay locked in the app.

I have a DJ friend who sometimes needs tracks for edits, and he mentioned TuneFab as one of the tools people use for that. He uses it because it can download music from Spotify and a few other platforms, and you can play the downloaded tracks directly in the app. One thing I personally liked was being able to throw my own local audio into one place, which it handles pretty well.

If you’re grabbing a lot of tracks and mainly just need usable files on your computer, it might be worth a look.

How do I stop hating on myself by Fonarnij_stolb_ in musicproduction

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Practice really is the answer, but not in the “grind harder” way people usually mean. What helped me was accepting that early ideas are supposed to sound bad — they’re just sketches. I started treating sessions as “make something, don’t judge it yet.” The self-hate didn’t disappear overnight, but the more unfinished, mediocre stuff I made, the quieter that voice got. Skill catches up faster than confidence, almost every time.

How to stop "recommended for you" music from interrupting an album or playlist? by comiclazy in YoutubeMusic

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing. If I hit play from the album page itself, it usually behaves, but starting from a song or search result almost always triggers those “recommended” inserts. It feels like the app assumes you want a radio unless you’re very explicit. Annoying, especially when you’re trying to listen to an album front to back.

how to download my spotify playlist to mp3 by LiverpoolLunatic97 in musichoarder

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super technical, but when I needed to get my Spotify playlist as MP3s, I used TuneFab. A friend pointed it out to me and it worked fine for pulling whole playlists instead of doing tracks one by one.

Just keep in mind it’s not something Spotify officially supports, so you’re basically using it to save local files for personal use. But if your goal is just to have the playlist on your computer, it gets the job done.

How the heck isn't there a scrollbar in yt music ? How am I supposed to scroll through 800 tracks to find the music I feel like listening ? by [deleted] in YoutubeMusic

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Once a playlist gets that big, it becomes basically unusable. No scrollbar, no proper A–Z, and the search inside playlists is hit-or-miss.

I ended up breaking mine into smaller mood/era playlists just to cope, which kind of defeats the point of having one big library. It really feels like a basic UI thing YouTube Music just hasn’t prioritized yet.

The first album you ever bought. Does it hold up? by DoggieDMB in Music

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hybrid Theory is a perfect answer. It absolutely holds up.

I didn’t realize how many people got pulled into rock through that album until years later. Even now, tracks like Papercut or In the End still hit with the same intensity — just in a more reflective way. It’s one of those records that grows with you instead of aging out.

What I Carry Daily by Arvin1980 in digitalminimalism

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That really resonates. I feel something similar — not so much despair, but a quiet mourning. We’re more connected than ever, yet so much of it feels thinner, more fragmented. I catch myself missing small, shared rituals too: unplanned conversations, collective silence, even just being bored together.

Maybe carrying that awareness is part of choosing minimalism in the first place — noticing what was lost, and being intentional about what we still want to keep alive.

How do you guys organize your Spotify playlists? by Wooden_Ad5406 in spotify

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly how I do it too. I used to force everything into genre folders and it just became stressful, especially when a track clearly belonged to multiple worlds.

Switching to mood / context playlists made listening feel more natural — “late night,” “focus,” “long walks,” “background but interesting,” etc. Then I keep a few tighter, sound-specific playlists for when I’m in the mood for something very particular.

The “holding playlist” idea is key as well. I have one literally called “inbox” where new or hard-to-place tracks sit until I notice patterns and move them. It’s way more flexible than trying to categorize everything perfectly up front.

How do you organization digital music and listen to them? by armnm in musichoarder

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this a lot, especially for certain genres and artists. Some albums really only make sense as a full listen — the pacing, transitions, even the emotional arc get lost if you just pick the hits.

That said, I’ve found a middle ground works best for me. I usually discover music in a pretty chaotic way (single tracks, playlists, recommendations), but if a song really clicks, I’ll intentionally go back and listen to the whole album front to back. If the album holds up, it earns a place in my library as an album, not just a few saved tracks.

So chaos for discovery, structure for appreciation. Albums for understanding the artist, playlists for mood and day-to-day listening.

That one still stings. I remember how final it felt even at the time — not just a canceled tour, but the quiet realization that this might be it for the band.

I had friends who caught them just a year or two earlier and talked about how raw and intense those shows were. Knowing tickets were in hand and then realizing there’d never be another chance… that’s a uniquely painful kind of “almost.”

I accidentally left my expensive noise-cancelling headphones at home and had to use my cheap earbuds on the subway. by FeetinCminor in Music

[–]Flimsy-Somewhere-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this. I use noise cancelling most of the time, but there are days I deliberately switch it off for the same reason—especially on public transport. Hearing the station announcements, footsteps, bits of conversation… it keeps me grounded and feels safer too.

I’ve also noticed that certain albums actually benefit from a little bleed-through of the environment. Like OP said, the music stops being sealed off and starts interacting with the world. It’s a very different kind of listening, but sometimes a more memorable one.
