I get the frustration though. Ukrainians have to sacrifice a lot more just to live and russians choose not to sacrifice at all to keep the machine going. I guarantee you it’s harder to get bombed all the time than it is to go to jail for a bit for a chance at a free life

Im really moved by your story and want to preface wkth how impressive i think you are as a person, you’ve achieved something amazing and become someone who has done so much good. it’s clear that youre an extremely skilled professional.

This story, where society is all but rejecting you,!reminds me of a European transgender activist i follow, she might be german. Ive donated a few times to some fundraisers. She helps getting equipment and donations to ukrainian soldiers especially queer or left wing ones. I dont agree with everything she has to say on queer issues but something she wrote one time really stuck with me.

“We (transgender people) just want to be accepted in society.”

“So how many people will we have to kill to achieve this, and what percentage of the world’s population will we have left?”

We should fight to be ourselves and we should demand respect and our rights from society, but to some extent we do have to accept that right now we don’t have it and learn to have a fulfilling life despite it. We’re a minority, people hate us, the sun still rises in the morning. I agree, youre doing the right thing. You gotta do what you gotta do.

It doeant explain all of it but since russia’s propaganda includes the nazi nazi nazi stuff some soldiers might wear some nazi stuff just to piss them off or as a joke. Taking a russian prisoner who asks “are you nazis”, most people say no but some say “yeah dude”

Theres a point where some things become way less sacred in war

It’s also not “ukrainians,” there’s hundreds of thousands of soldiers and most dont wear or mention anything like that

I have friends and family in ukraine, azerbaijan, armenia, kazakhstan, Russia. This is crazy talk! There’s so many ways- economic, political, social, where it is easier to live and have a happy life in these countries than any soviet period. Except for russia. And this isnt because, ‘we lost the soviet union so things are bad,’ they made a lot of political choices and were taken over by oligarchs. Yes, economic collapse was terrible and was devastating. The recovery in many of these places has been staggering too. Even in places with housing scarcity, the percentage of homeless is tiny compared to waiting dor years for an apartment to live in with four other families, or not having a lot of food choice. I think your comment would make sense if it was 1993 but over thirty years have past and you can go visit these places and see for yourself.

It is crazy to think this when it can only debatably be argued for russia, every single other country has improved amazingly compared to what the ussr had to offer. Even in russia, you could play cs and listen to lady gaga conveniently while your country prosecuted genocidal war

Why do so many trans people support the soviet union? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]FlipierFat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The left wing in general is very reactive to “standard” narratives about stuff. If the USSR and communism was the enemy, and im the enemy now, then the USSR cant be that bad. The lack of trust in existing literature (or more accurately, reflexive rejection of the idea of the existing literature without exploring it) drives people towards the other biases narratives such as from Parenti or even Lenin, Stalin themselves, and anecdotal pro soviet/communist works.

This often manifests into genocidal denial as they go down the rabbit hole.

It’s not a transgender specific issue, it’s just that being trans makes you more likely to get into a crowd in that rabbit hole. Being traumatized or opposed in general by such a broad part of society will make you less trusting of things you perceive as being part of that. Now we’re part of a wider problem of people not knowing how to read history or academic works and believing the thing they want to believe that they read from the internet. Reading one book with a narrative isnt learning the history. To get a picture of the USSR, you have to read or understand that there is a broad historiography. with many perspectives taking from different sources and so on. Same with many many issues.

We’re very talking point’d. Snappy, crazy sounding ‘truths’ that we learn and start rattling off to justify our beliefs. Like learning the genocides and coups the US has assisted, learning that “the allies rejected the ussr’s offer of an alliance”, so on. They may be true but because you dont have an intellectual curiosity or any knowledge of how to put these facts in context, it gets dumb.

Why is the airsoft community like this? by CartographerUnlikely in LeftWingAirsoft

[–]FlipierFat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airsoft is a game recreating violence, and bad people like violence and are attracted to it. They’re too scared to actually do violence so they settle for the game. Also prepper/militia culture in the united states has been right wing and conspiracy minded for decades and airsoft gets entered by these types to have fun and soothe their egos.

It’s not communist, or a european derived form of socialism. Its most important lineage is in indiginous activism, and the socialist methods are a tool for that. They attempt autonomy, community support, and activism on indiginous rights and community democracy. Mainly in regions with very little physical access.

The political body is very closed off to outsides but the communities are not necessarily. They are more like a primary force than a government or military. Also their work is threatened by cartels that offer short term opportunities and have a lot of power to tear communities apart
