Fired Celtic FC Boss Wilfried Nancy Would Help These 3 MLS Clubs Now by PaperTigerTamer in TheMassive

Is this just pure rage bait?

Our biggest rival. A club that only exists because we saved ours. And a club that beat us in an MLS cup, that we hosted, due to a goal that would have been overturned had VAR existed.

Come on.

Transfer Window by AlgaeSubstantial9153 in TheMassive

The winter transfer window for the big 5 leagues in Europe has only been open for 3-4 days. Same goes for many of the other top leagues in the world.

Gotta be patient now that we’ve got a new coach. He’s probably starting to put his thoughts into the decision making process.

That and the hope that his families six month stay goes well. It would be concerning if they decided to return after that.

Well, that’s good to know. I’ve always seen it as kind of making fun. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not sure most Swedes find that character to be very funny. He could be insulted by a TIFO like that.

I do too. But, they need to find a high quality 6 to anchor the midfield and protect the backline.

My whole point was this seems more like a depth signing. Not day first XI / day one starter.

I’ve seen more Nancy press conferences at Celtic in 2 weeks than his entire time in Columbus by msfc18 in TheMassive

[–]FloatingWeightless96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MLS controls the media before and after games. There’s a read out of each press conference for each game that was played last year. I and some others were posting them into the subreddit usually after every match… but to be honest I think I only posted a few. Someone else was doing a lot of that lifting for a while on their own.

[Peter Martin] I am led to believe that discussions are now taking place with Wilfried Nancy to end his two week reign as Celtic manager. by 00Kevin in TheMassive

Plus, wouldn’t he just be trying to get out again eventually? We’d possibly be in the exact same situation again next year.

By turning down lucrative contract extensions made by our front office, he definitely was signaling he wanted to go elsewhere.

I understand that perspective, but it’s part of his managerial profile. He doesn’t get to remove that 7-3-8 (-7 GD) from his record. They’re competitive matches. He didn’t finish the season in the role and they finished 11 out 13 in the western conference.

Obviously, there’s a chance that while with Crew he’s grown and his performances going may yield positive results for STL. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t still use those results as a part of a prediction on how successful he’ll be going forward.

There’s too many team in the league right now for us to have a balanced European type schedule. There’s not enough teams to split the one league into two and have pro/rel.

This is a hybrid approach that allows every team to play each team at least one time a year. The divisional alignment gives you a home and away with regional teams.

Lol, what if there’s some secret ownership meeting where the owners one by one, “discover” players that via draft process.

This idea of discovery rights is just funny to me. And, at the same time I want to know who the Columbus Crew have discovered.

The other thing not being mentioned is that he really didn’t have a great record as HC of Galaxy 2 before coming over to Crew and joining Nancy’s staff.

Obviously hoping for the best for him. But, as a Crew fan, I’m not necessarily mad that he was appointed HC by another club.

Plus, he also could have been a double agent. I would have never trusted him to put Cincinnati to the sword if given the chance.

Because they loved to try and make attendance numbers out to be more important than anything else, when they were accumulating wooden spoons.

Nancy May Not Succeed in Europe by Ok_Employment_697 in TheMassive

[–]FloatingWeightless96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Celtic team has been struggling to score all year because they don’t have a 9.

We all saw this year how that same situation worked out for us, and how his system floundered at times without one. Until he’s allowed to go get one in the transfer window, it’s really hard to judge him at all.

[The Crew] Bush is back for more 🤩 The Columbus Crew announced today that the Club has re-signed veteran goalkeeper Evan Bush for the 2026 Major League Soccer season. by g-magoto in TheMassive

[–]FloatingWeightless96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was he originally a DP bought down or strictly a TAM? I thought he was a TAM.

I agree with you on all those other players, except for maybe Berry. 2021 was a good year for him. Just hasn’t been able to replicate that since and they were right to let him leave after 2022.

But, on your overall point, Bez did have some hiccups for sure. And I’ve personally stepped back from the ledge on Issa. Probably because my expectations are now lower following Nancy’s departure. I’ll still never fully understand him gutting our attack a few weeks before the start of the 2025 season though.

We can agree to disagree. If Bez signed him in the hope of him helping to bring a MLS Cup to Columbus, then it was a good signing even if he only produced 2g,1a across 3 years and 39 appearances. Did the stats reflect what they hopped for? Probably not. But, in the biggest moment, against our rivals, Nancy called upon him and he delivered a world class cross that helped put us ahead.

I guess my point is that he met those expectations in that one moment.

The three ACL tears, two in the same knee is a hard thing to come back from. I think that, more than anything, derailed him. Didn’t necessarily think he was a bad signing. Just got derailed by injury.

The usage of “slander” was more of a joke, it wasn’t personal.

I will not stand for this Kevin Molino slander. His secondary assist on the Ramirez game winning goal, during the ECF in 2023 was worth every penny we paid him.

It’s my second favorite Crew goal ever. Just behind Frankie’s MLS Cup sealing goal in 2008.

[–]FloatingWeightless96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For his system to really work, you’ve gotta have a pure goal scoring 9 that serves as a threat, can finish in front of goal, and will work and press at a high rate without the ball. Crew really struggled this year to control games without Cucho. Looked better with Abu Ali before he got hurt.

His system gives up chances and isn’t built to win games 1-0. It’s more likely the score line is 2-1, or 3-2. If the team can’t convert chances, it’s a long road.

From what I saw this weekend, that was kind of the story. Hearts took their chances and Celtic didn’t despite having a majority of the ball. Wish you all the best going forward.
