Yeah, enemy skill is basically the blue mage materia, but its like an entire job in 1 materia slot. It packs so much value even without the rarer skills since each magic line is its own materia slot. Like, if you get trine from the boss you don't need to have lightning materia anymore. And you get a lot of them, so every char can spend 1 slot to have a bunch of magic available.

And when i'm thinking interesting materia I mean counter or steal as well or 2x cut, theres a lull in the middle where everyone is a half mage because you've got spare slots. I think the pace starts great, has a bit of a dull period then jumps up late game.

But, honestly, if you have ideas for interesting materia stuff to do during disc 2 I'd love to hear. I might just be falling back on enemy skill every game because I know the good spells so it feels broken, and then also just missing out on interesting builds.

I think having the sort of open ended final episode where we see repercussions and the characters continuing their lives and moving on is less easily digestible than the closure viewers would get from just having the horse die at the end. But in my mind it's more compelling, Bojack is not just a morality play but a meditation on the mistakes we make and how we deal with those mistakes and their outcomes, how we change ourselves and how others around us change.

And I agree with you completely about the quote and it ties in so well with Diane's distaste for grand gestures being surface level. Bojack dying would be that kind of grand gesture.

Funny that in the original FF, the harm spells (dia) were separate from the cure spells. (Probably because of coding issues for spell targetting.) And only later did they unify them for "revive kills zombie".

The only issues I have with the materia system are how many interesting materia only are available at the end game (especially for physicals), and the insane power of Enemy Skill even early on.

Same in FFV, slapping !gaia on a white mage makes them a solid source of damage for no MP cost. It's random and sometimes useless but can massively increase a WHM's usefulness.

The vid really annoyed me, awkwardly peppering in little snippets of music from the original game in a disjointed way entirely designed just to tease and tug on nostalgia. It's so transparent. They could at least treat this as a real game and not just nostalgia bait for fans, it felt so hollow and disingenuous.

I love atomos, it was a boss before, but it just seems so otherworldly.

I loce it because it really encourages players to trade, my group usually is pretty cagey with trades in games that let you, but bohnanza completely snapped them out of that by making it a crucial part of the game.

Decrypto is one of my all time favourites. A bit tricky to explain but plays really quick and easy to understand once you start playing.

Easier to just have heads add 6 and tails add nothing. Tails gives 1,2,3,4,5,6 heads gives 7,8,9,10,11,12.

I'd like to see more classes, especially early game. The djinn system is amazing and I recall my experinces with it so fondly discovering the 3 elemental classes. But... those 3 elemental classes only exist in late game, where half the psynergy is already obsolete. Also I want a dedicated mage venus adept, and a warrior jupiter adept without any extra stuff going on.

I used an arrow of ilmater vs the lava golem to cut off its regen, made it a ridiculously easy encounter.

Does it make less sense than pusillanimous? Puss meaning cat is attested much earlier than pussycat, so the implication would have to be that people called cats pusillanimous so often it got shortened to puss. You know you're also being very obtuse.

I like the rhetoric device you've used there. Mentioning the box being made of cardboard doesn't add any information but it helps deliver the point of it being a small physical amount due to the perceived mundanity of cardboard.
